Can you give me examples of what you mean by "new mechanics"? Based on your post, I'm starting to think I'm conflating "content" and "mechanics". I consider the new starts to be new mechanics but I'd file new ATs for characters and separate locations/items under "content".
I also think he's definitely started making steps towards refining things and adding QoL features that improves the gameplay experience. It's gradual but I've definitely seen them. Then again, I didn't fully get to play v.0.11 before I started getting busy so I haven't really explored much in the latest update.
As for the future of this game, I don't really know. He's been trudging along for years now without signs of stopping so at least that's good in the sense that maybe he'll have it finished eventually. On the other hand, I think his previous game's ending felt rushed so I'm not confident. Either way, I don't really mind I suppose. When I'll finally have time to sit down and play this in the far future, either outcome will probably have occurred. Is what I'm saying. But if it kind of stays in this kind of development cycle then ... lol idk I'll make my decision then I suppose. There's not much else I can do about it.
Hacking their social media, grades, spy cams, reverting back to previous ATs with new stars, new optional starts, every time he adds some new statistic in the later ATs that you need to find a way to manipulate in order to progress through the AT, etc...
While most of these are cool features that are fun to use (sans the new statistics added just to make it more grindy), the number of them he has already added and keeps adding make the game harder and harder for Baal to develop. And the last 2 to 3 updates have all been significantly late with fewer ATs than previous updates.
And while I don't have the time or motivation to go find the direct quote, the reason the developer gave for abandoning his other game, superpowered, in favor of soft rebooting with the sequel, superpowered 2, was that it was getting to be too much effort to create new content in superpowered after all the stuff he had added to it over the years.
And don't forget that version of superpowered was already a rework of a previous version of superpowered that was in RAGS and abandoned in favor of a new engine.
His track record with what occurred with his previous games combined with the last few updates for Loser doesn't leave me optimistic. That said, it is still a great game as it is. But there are still some things I want to see happen in it, so I would be saddened if it was abandoned before they got added.
