Yes, the developers of such projects are currently facing a ton of problems.
First of all, we, the users, are mostly fans of freebies.
Secondly, there's a wave of total purges of NSFW content on the most effective marketplaces for sales. That is, developers aren't just making their products for fun and our admiration; they want to make money, and both main streams of income are failing. And then you can't help but wonder: is it even worth continuing?
And, of course, the personal problems of the developers themselves also play a role. But there's no announcement of the project's closure yet. It's too early to write it off.
