Not sure how that translates to the coming update being the end of the game. If the next update were to complete this game, there wouldn't be anything to postpone, since the game would be finished. Rather, to me it sounds like "final update" is for the time being only. The state of the game will then probably either become abandoned or (at some point down the road) continued when the developer is able to again. I don't think you should plan on the game being completed with the next update. With all of the branching and everything, I highly doubt this will be wrapped up in a single release.

about the last update, 14 February 2024. It's mislabeled, ofc, being posted on Feb 13 of this year, so it should say the release would be the 14 February 2025 one. Anyway, it looks like Love and Ashes will be postponed indefinitely... so unless something really goes the dev's way, it sounds like this probably won't continue anymore. My post before yours was about this thing. I don't think the update completes the game; I think it just is the last update... possibly ever.

The only thing you're going to get is the 14Feb2025 version, after which the game has been put indefinitely on hold. Since the dev seems to be working on another VN, I'd assume this one is abandoned. It remains to be see if they'll get back to Love and Ashes in the future. This isn't a judgment of EngelKuchKuch, but generally when this type of thing happens, a dev never gets back to the project they abandoned. I'm somewhat surprised that the last (for now) version isn't over here, given it's now been almost 6 months since its release. Maybe we'll see it in just over a week; I don't know when / if there's a planned public version.

Hello my dear patrons,

I’m in a bit of a difficult situation. Do you remember my short story Love under a Leaky Roof? Well… the same thing just happened to me—minus the love and the sex.

A heavy downpour destroyed my ceiling, and rainwater came pouring in. Pipes leaked, electric cables and lamps got cut off, and my PC (which is open-air, not in a case) got a very unwanted shower. The same goes for my monitors. I’m still trying to dry everything out, and I have no idea yet if they’ll ever turn on again.

Because of this disaster, my writing schedule will be delayed. I can’t say for how long right now—the misfortune struck just an hour ago as I write this announcement.

Thank you for understanding, and I’ll update you as soon as I can.

It was a rough experience—my PC even got splashed, since the case was open and facing upward with only a cloth to cover it. Water still managed to drip inside. I was really worried because the power supply still send a bit of electricity to the motherboard’s RGB. Thankfully, today I can say my PC is back up and running! My house repairs are nearly finished—though it may still take about a week or so before everything is truly complete. In the meantime, I plan to release a short story that I managed to write during this hectic period in a week. After that, I’ll continue working on Devilish Locust. Stay tuned!​

Ofc, sadly the work will still be on Devilish Locust instead of this game. But I am looking forward to seeing what the new game's like.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that I’m not accepting new patrons for now. I’ve already removed all my membership tiers since October 2025, so please don’t pledge as a patron yet.

Currently, I’m planning to continue developing the game "Love and Ashes", but I want to take a different approach — one that’s more suitable for my hardware limitations. With my current GPU, rendering takes too long to maintain a monthly release schedule. Unfortunately, the money I’ve saved isn’t enough for an upgrade — the RTX 4090 is out of stock everywhere, and the 5090’s price has skyrocketed.

Another challenge I’m facing is managing story branches. Creating a separate story map outside the engine is both time-consuming and inefficient. I’d like to move to a game engine that allows visual story branch tracking directly inside the editor. After many hours of research, my current candidates are Unreal Engine 5 and Unity, though learning either one will take time. I have to tested them.

Anyone who has pledged to be my patrons, please unsubscribe. Unless you want to see what have already been created. There are a few things.
