What a wonderful ride it has been! Starting from the time when I first saw it here was apprehensive to try it more, as was unsure about how the story would pan out. Would it be rushed? Will it make sense? Will the poker ruin the fun? It is funny then that now not only I am better at poker lol but all those doubts have been removed over time and there is a tinge of sadness about such a game getting over as the quality leaves wanting for more, but not complaining though better to be completed than left incomplete in between. I now reflect on the game as a whole as I have full trilogy on Steam along with a review there.
The game has been nothing short of extraordinary personally. Starting from Em, who is #1 in my all-time AVNs female list, despite playing so many AVNs, not that other AVNs lack depth, or beautiful renders. There might be other models which are rendered more beautifully than her but her persona and grace just puts her class apart for me, the ideal realistic female which actually teaches lessons of honor, ethics, duty and responsibility, lessons which I last expected in an AVN but were pleasantly welcome. Indeed she reminds: Duty is heavier than the mountain
Molly who interestingly was one of the reasons why initially had doubts about this game as she seemed much like a brat. But her transformation throughout the book was surreal and her extent of devotion was divine.
Bella probably was the biggest surprise package, she didn't seem like the girl playing too big of a role in the trilogy but again her development throughout has been both exceptional and emotional to see.
Akane was a conundrum to me, it looked like she probably would break away from the group owing to her insecurities related to the Queen and her jealousy apparently, it was wonderful to see her overcome that and become what she was at the conclusion. Definitely a lesson to be learnt from her, I do hear that she might not be part of the new game Morningstar, if that indeed is the case she will be missed.
Moving on to Katie, you can see right from act 1 what persona she will have; she plays the perfect Evoker companion to MC. She looks headstrong at surface, ever aggressive, but as the story developed it was heartening to see different sides of her, especially in book 2. And yea her drinking sets new records lol
And finally Chloe. She is the master strategist and must be laughing at me apparently as all my predictions of what will she do next were proven next to wrong.
Looking at the books as a whole, to me each book appealed to me with its theme. Book 1 was all about exploration and new connections, finding love and friendship both which have the power to be forged for eternity, which was a key lesson for me especially the time it was launched, in between the pandemic.
Book 2 was all about the big bad fight happening and the costs and rewards of it, personally it kinda encouraged me to take action in my own personal battles even though sometimes it is hard to do that in the face of costs you have to pay, something which MC did experience as well. But as MC and Em showed time and time again with Celebration of life you can definitely tide over. Also book 2 had a key element named as Voices which can be assumed as an instrument of sorcery. The Voices in LoM appealed to me as a direct comparison with gut feeling, like sometimes you know you want to grab an oppurtunity and your instinct aids you to do that, this realisation somewhere made me more self aware about my own instincts as well.
Book 3 for me was about a comeback and how setbacks are a setup for a stronger comeback. Like MC if there is a chance to be in a similar situation where you lost valuable things, it is so important to grab the opportunity and set the stone right, it also taught me not to wilt under that pressure when it is important to perform, rather use it as a fuel for success.
All in all so many valuable lessons! Sure they might be read and understood from other sources as well but can they be this beautifully explained like LoM? In a way it is extremely hard to forget them, personally I don't think so . Which probably is one of the crux reason of bonding with this trilogy and hence fittingly right now it feels like an adios to an old friend.
LoM itself though at the conclusion, talks about Eternal Summer which inspires me to find my own version of Eternal summer as well. In the spirit though it is wise to let go and reach for new avenues and hence this is kind of a reflective and appreciative note that will allow me to move on from LoM and focus on Dev's new game Morningstar in expectancy of the same creative and engaging game development skills that have been showcased before.
Hence farewell LoM you are certainly a legendary game to savor, a game which also altered the types of game I now play with your ever-perennial motto: Come for the porn, stay for the story!
Thanks for reading Dev, best wishes for ahead
