After Christine heard 6 lydia love sex events, I cannot update the requirement for Christine/Lydia's "Steak and Wine" goal. It's stuck at 3/6. EDIT: I used dev tools to set the ChistineSpyLwd variable (or whatever it's called) under LydiaEventObj to 6 but I did not get a new scene option in the PC's room, just Christine Story: Intentions.
Been thinking about Christine and Lydia. I'm not quite through the end of the content with her yet, so this might be premature, but I want to get my thoughts down before I sleep.
First off, I think a "Player is loyal to Lydia from start to finish and never sleeps with another woman" ending doesn't fit in the game. It might be possible to get to the gym content and meet Lydia without ever coming onto Jen, but even then it wouldn't be a fair expectation that the player will ignore the poster girl of the game and hold out for their darling wife.
However, Christine's very presence has made me wonder a few times if the game has been tracking my dalliances with Lydia's mother, especially if I'm doing the love route, where the relationship between the PC and Lydia is more emotionally intimate and balanced: Lydia overcomes her past issues with the PC, and generally seems more in love with the PC than obsessed/seduced as she is the lust route. I kept predicting that, at some point, the game would pull a "gotcha" moment on me for making Lydia my girlfriend (and avoiding all NTR content, claiming that I've never cheated at the party, etc.) and then turning around and fucking her mother behind her back. I figured it would be Christine springing the trap shut; she's supposed to be a fairly cutthroat woman that's seduced more than one man for his money and has no shame in telling her own daughter to use her body to get what she wants from men - namely you -
in front of you. (It's so brazen and horrible that it winds back to being endearing.) I thought that Christine, seeing that Lydia is genuinely falling in love with the PC, would eventually put her foot down and either demand that the PC stop meeting her (Christine), or else break the news of your infidelity if the PC and Lydia attempt to go steady/official. I got a taste of that with the Love route Anal scene with Christine, where she initially claims her intention is to remove the temptation entirely by moving out of the house before the PC seduces her - or does he? Christine is fun like that; she could pull a 180 and toss the PC out at any point and I'd believe it. Nevertheless, it seems that there's more content with the two of them past this point.
So I thought about it some, asking what I wanted here and what would actually work. I don't think Christine should cock-block the PC or end the Lydia love route if the player chooses to mess around with Christine; it's a porn game with a bunch of different LIs and the player naturally expects to romance multiple women if multiple women are offered. Just a staple of the genre, and going against the grain here would piss people off, could add some significant programming and storywriting complexity, and, honestly, doesn't quite fit with the story as a whole anyways. Even ignoring Lydia, the player can follow the Jen, Fiona, and Mel love routes simultaneously without being threatened with negative consequences. Locking a true harem game to just the lust routes would be bizarre at this point.
I think that there could be room for inclusion of these choices at the very, very end though. In the epilogue, the closing slideshow, the final rundown of all the different relationships and choices. At this final point, where lots of branching depending on player choice matters less because you don't have to pick any of them back up, I think having a different end result for a relationship with Lydia depending on the player's choices regarding Christine would be a nice touch for her character and a good way to add some player choice beyond the current love/lust dichotomy.
Some ideas:
* Lust route, flings with Christine, harem end: Player doms both and adds them to his harem. If Lydia gets married, it's just for his money. If she leaves home, she always finds her way back to the PC. Mother and daughter sleeping in the same bed with the same man is too wonderful of a sick perversion to give up, and neither finds their way out from under his thumb.
* Love route, flings with Christine, player cuts it off, non-harem end: PC and Lydia marry, Christine honors the marriage, but never quite gives up tempting the PCs loyalty to her daughter. If he resists, her daughter has a fine, honest husband, something that Christine never had and maybe never expected for her daughter. If he gives in, Christine has her favorite toy back and can prune a cheating husband from her daughter's life. Win-win.
* Love route, flings with Christine, player doesn't cut it off, non-harem end: Lydia wants to marry, but Christine spills the beans. Lydia is hurt, but the PC is too much of a part of her life and the nature of their relationship was vague for so long that she can't bring herself to shut him out. They remain friends with benefits, as does the PC and Christine, but never anything more. If they part ways, it's amicable and she's still grateful for his help and companionship.
