It's like a worse version of the Peter Molyneux cycle, people don't even have the chance to be disappointed with the previous game before the developer already sings tales of glory for the next one.

I can deal with ads but only letting patreons save is a new low kind of like if ea made porn games basically this is incredibly predatory

I’m sorry you’ve disappointed the game contains ads and paid features that make a road for future updates. I’m not searching for hype themes, and I always wanted to make NSFW parody game about Dota 2. Great thanks to people who supported my previous games, but despite “pretty solid support” it wasn’t enough to make new updates pretty often - I worked alone in my free time as much as I could. Now with ads inside and paid features, I can make a comfortable game with a ton of arts together with my partner. I got the plan, and I just will be working further.

From one developer to another.
Don't rely on ads and paid features to pave the road for future updates.
Ads are fine as a supplement, but not at the expense of the main game's development.
There are also plenty more fun ways to integrate them rather than blocking off content etc. Crossovers, unique items you can buy in-game, quests etc are more fun and engaging.
Consistency, reliability, and transparency with your updates will take you far further than relying just on ads and marketing gimmicks. The money will come with time.
This forum is also extremely skeptical around advertisement tactics such as these following another Dev, Darth smut, who leaned into them over actually developing his game, and actively sought to try to bring the 'mobile marketing' shady tactics into the fold.

Blocking off content is kind of a line - nothing past this (like blocking core save/load mechanics) will be accepted by anyone.
Also VN is the worst format for this kind of cutting content. It's a linear story, not a sandbox.

Does this plan include any further updates to Windranger's Wanderings, or has that game been basically scrapped to make room for what is basically a Pay2Play game?

You really need to restructure your secret scenes. Right now you can subscribe for 15$ and have access to the Mirana scene, but since it will never be public or in the offline version, you basically have always online DRM. Once it expires you can't access it anymore.
So if you want to see past secret scenes moving forward, you will have to pledge 15$ every single month. At least create a way so you can keep the ones you already paid for.

Dudes stop making a mess. Its not a cost, its early access. And yeah maybe its quite lame to hide saves behind a paywall but author did it to give himself a new start, maybe (probably not but maybe) hes a new man now and after this awkward start he will pull out better. Anyways ive always dreamed of dota game for some reason and thank you for making two of them. Really love dota for some weird reason.

Windranger's Wanderings as a separate game is "abandoned". I changed too much in the next game to continue the original WW in the same way. So if you mean WW: Midforest Episode - it's correct to say it's "on hold" now. I would really want to finish that story. I got several options to do it. But not all at once.
I made a post about that some time ago, and moreover - I want to make an option for other tier patrons to get these scenes. So this is a viable purpose in our task list. But it's not an easy task - we need to make an entire database, keep it and watch it works correctly. Currently, this is out of our skills, so I can't say how much time it will take. Anyway, we already made own engine to make this game, so I think we could handle this too.

After reading this and the devs responses honestly my faith is gone already but honestly I still got other games anyway. So in the end it's not a big deal as time will show what happens when you abandon things and give into greed under the guise of game making.

I was talking about implementing advertisements, not blocking off content and using THAT as your advertisement.
Blocking off content is a big no no.
E.g. In-game purchasing a comic book that just so 'happens' to be advertising on a page another devs project or something like that.

The lack of free save function doesn't matter much yet, there is so little content it is easy enough to run through it. But as it grows it will get more shitty. I don't object to some patreon exclusive content but this is far too draconian, however the dev tries to justify it. I get you want to make moeny to make the effort you put in worthwhile but pissing off patrons by forcing everyone to pay for basic features and half the game content is counterproductive.
