There are plenty of ways to do optional pregnancy; it has been done many times before. The easiest ones that come to mind areNot viable though.
With so many characters the dev would need to do renders and scenes with pregnancy on and off for individual characters. Say 2 women are on screen, that is 4 versions of that 1 render so that 20 render scene now becomes 80 renders. Multiply that every time more characters are on screen and we'd either be waiting a year per update or only one scene per update.
Options are great but not when it's that unrealistic for the dev to pull off.
In order for it to work it would have to be all or nothing which is why it's nothing.
1. Don't have the pregnancy show until the ending. This way you can use 99% of the same renders and just have different/extended dialogue for certain scenes.
2. Have the pregnancy show, but don't have the option to get them pregnant until like 90% of the way through the game so the amount of extra renders needed is minimal.
3. Rapid, repeatable pregnancy that occurs in a single scene. Make up whatever excuse you need to like "magic makes growth/recovery extremely fast then we teleport them to magic daycare" or something and you can go back to using the same renders as if it never happened.
Sure it's more work no matter what but it's definitely "viable" and when we're talking about games that are going to take several years to develop regardless why not put in the extra effort to make it appeal to as many people as possible (within reason of course, but breeding is probably the most common fetish by a large margin)
