I always read this development as something different. I believe she's still rebelling against all of the past parental stifling she suffered and she chose something extreme — dancing at a club with strippers — as backlash, while restraining herself from the actual stripping / VIP stuff because of a desire (subconscious probably, at least to a degree) not to disappoint the MC too much. She wants to rebel fairly heavily, but she doesn't want to completely cut off the MC who rescued her. Anyway, that's just how I interpreted her actions.
I had a friend growing up who was an amazing girl but whose parental restrictions were such that she eventually acted similarly. She was in Playboy (only a brief spot as something part of a college girls series), she's been a model for beer and NASCAR-type stuff, etc. She does that as a middle finger to the "moral lessons" her family imposed on her when a teenager, but she doesn't go farther (escorting, porn star, etc.) because she doesn't want to disappoint those who have (like me) cared about her throughout the entire process. I actually would still love her even if she did porn (as would others in our group of friends), but I always got the sense she was holding back because she was worried about how I and others would react. I've told her as much too, but I think subconsciously she doesn't quite believe me.
