My 2 cents: Developer is indeed chosing a hard path with the combination of pretty massive happenings/topics in the first release and now the current update, which kinda avoids those topics (update focusses more on the setting of the story with the council, the new cat person and the whore sex scene). Think for a more wholesome or redemption story line it is better to just focus first on making thing at least slightly better with the crew, because also the interactions with MC vs crew also feel kinda on hold or worsening, while they felt for me the main selling point of the release (up until the Lucas accident).
The big impact of (possibly) losing a crewmate, but mostly the MC lacking selfreflection (and taking responsibiity) is kinda hard to swallow. In fact the behavour of the mc is even the same for really losing Lucas or escaping just in time.
The greed/initial bad choices are for me not a problem, but the problem for me is that I directly want to start working on the redemption (hope for a long road, but at least to get started on it). Instead we get among other things the above mentioned hooker scene (which I get from the devs point of view to add a sex scene), which is exactly the opposite of the redemption path that I want to see. I would like to see him explain himself to the crew and ask/beg for forgiveness and (partially) restore the relation with April and gain some kind of relation with Riley (and Lucas?). The doghouse that was hinted is now becoming an isolation cell.
This can also be part of the games masterplan, to slow down/postpone the redemption, to have the MC actually hit rock bottom or something, but for that we kinda lack more details why the MC is this way (the story talks about some economic problems before, but without specific details to understand it) or why he currently is acting out (For example: his mind is set on solving the current situation at the station, which is fine, but at least some general thoughts of himself on the situation he caused and how he is sorry, but currently cannot fix the problem for instance). Now indeed I feel like I'm losing the connection with the MC, with both thoughts and actions.
