1. In my opinion - but it's just my guess, I'm not an insider - Season 2 should have been the final season in Inceton's original intentions, but the pledger on Patreon were disappointed by its crappy ending and voted massively to have a Season 3 to fix it.

By then, the new writer taking on Season 3 was stuck in a situation a lot like what the fictional writer Paul Sheldon faces in : he had to come up with some quick narrative fixes that weren’t exactly built into the story from the start. In other words, don’t expect the twist from “it was all a simulation” to “no, the AI actually lied and it all happened in the real world” to feel perfectly smooth or logically airtight—it’s a bit clunky, and that’s understandable.

But here’s the thing: when you’re forced to “fix” a finale that the audience hated, you’re basically cornered into taking these kinds of liberties. It’s not new—Collodi did it with Pinocchio, which was originally supposed to end with the protagonist hanged, but angry readers wouldn’t have it, so he brought him back to life by revealing that the dead girl was actually a fairy. Dallas did something similar when they lost viewers after Bobby Ewing’s death—they simply stated that the entire previous season was “all a dream” and brought him back. Sometimes storytelling demands a bit of improvisation when reality (or fandom) intervenes.

Let's say that the plot twist from simulation to reality is as smooth as it could be, considering it wasn’t planned in advance.

2. Well... basically what I wrote in the "Heavier spoiler" here, plus the MC growing more mature and trying to fix things with all the girls who turned out to be disappointed/damaged by his reckless behavior after the time moved forward by one day.

3. I won't spoil that much. Also, since you don’t use spoiler tags when replying to mine, I don’t want other readers accidentally seeing something that could ruin their experience.
Thanks for all your informative replies!

I'd like to write a different kind of review here:

Premise:

I did NOT play Season 1 and/or Season 2!

This puts me in a situation similar to the movie "The Hangover," where my main character wakes up Saturday morning with two girls (Megan and Zoe) and can't remember a thing. It quickly became clear to me that the main character was a complete jerk and had been given a virtually impossible price to pay for his actions. And that's a good thing, because an age-old law of physics states (paraphrased): Every action has a reaction!

Story:
Let's get to the Story: I quickly recognized a pattern: The obvious problem with each girl masked an even bigger one. Let's disregard how "good" the girls are to the main character at the beginning of the plot and how quickly we manage to get them into bed within a few hours... let's not even go there. I find the plots themselves contrived and predictable, with a few "aha" moments. The dialogue flows smoothly and, even in my translation, is really good.

Conclusion:
For me, season 3 is the story of Lust Theory, and I don't want to and won't play seasons 1 and/or 2.

Outlook:
As things stand, Elizabeth's Story (in my opinion, the worst story),
1761988166567.png
Ellie's (which, in my opinion, most blatantly demonstrates the impact of MCs' actions),
1761988209834.png
and Alice's (God, she's cute)
1761988273555.png
isn't finished or hasn't even started yet. I'm curious to see what happens next. From my point of view, it makes sense that Alice's story will be included in the next update, which could then unlock Elizabeth's and Ellie's stories, which are currently blocked.

My problems with the season finale
Harem finale: (NO TAG!)
Fine, the MC has the knowledge of how to solve the problems with each girl and thus win their hearts, but!!! Every Sunday night, the girls are reset, and the MC's actions become null and void. If Alice gets Carol to "walk" and the goal is to solve ALL of the MC's problems, then Sunday would have to have approximately 64 hours. *cough*. This is logically impossible, because all the "final" storylines begin, more or less at the same time, on Sunday morning!

Solo finale (the most likely scenario):
You're forced to choose one (or two (Megan and Zoe)). Okay, but that's a very unsatisfying finale. You solve one problem, but not the others. You know about the girls' problems, you know how to solve them, but only on Sunday! Because on Monday, the world looks completely different.

Therefore, my question is: How does the developer intend to untangle this "Gordian knot"? I'll illustrate that the developer has already considered this with Megan's example:
1761988464821.png
Basically, the story is already over, but as you can see, not quite yet!

On the latest update page it says "7 years" since last update. Don't think that's right?
Not that I care, with the season 2 ending the game died for me. But it got me confused, because it hasn't been 7 years.

Interesting perspective!

As far as MC being able to get the girls in a few hours...Well they have history by this point, that's why. The first two games did happen, so they're all in a sexual relationship with him already, only hindered by whatever issue they're facing. (Although to be fair that's a critique you could levy at the first game where they didn't have that lol)

As for the finale and resolutions, weell... Let's just say there are elements from the second game that could help with this whole conundrum, but even without going there, nothing stops MC from prioritizing his girl(s) of choice for Sunday and then help out the other ones on Monday. Most of them aren't facing time critical issues, they can afford to wait a day lol. But also, this was him going out of his way to figure out the issue as well as how to solve it, so one can also imagine he can technically come up with a game plan that allows him to help as many of the women as he can in one given day.

There were a bunch of 0.7.x updates released really close together, and then suddenly 0.8 versions started coming out soon after. Can someone explain what’s going on with these updates? Also, is another one coming out soon or was 0.8.2 the last one?

Inceton have been doing smaller but more frequent updates for a while now. Previously they’d only update once an episode was completed, now they release updates more frequently, but they aren’t full episodes.

An Inceton game usually has 10 Episodes. With this, you can note where in the games development we are. For example, we’re currently in Episode 9 of LT3, but the episode is not completed yet, hence the current version is 0.8.2. You’ll know when an Episode is completed when that second number increments up. So, 0.9.0 will be the completed Episode 9. Once Episode 10 is completed, that is likely the full release, which will be 1.0.

So, basically, first number denotes whether the game is complete or not, 0 meaning in development, 1 meaning complete. The second number denotes how many completed episodes there are, currently in LT3 there are 8 completed episodes. The third number is simply to increment up as work on an episode continues. Right now it’s at 2, which could be seen as an indicator that Episode 9 is 20% complete, but that’s not always accurate.

Simply put, the second number is the important one right now, noting the amount of completed episodes, with the third number giving a loose idea on the progress of the current episode.

thanks, I might give it a try then.
As the new writer who took over the story development and writing for Season 3, I hope you will give it a go. As others have stated previously, some decisions and narrative choices might come over a bit contrived, but I have done my uttermost to make Season 3 the best I can, and really hope I am honoring the best parts of the series to date, while also contributing something new and fresh, breaking new ground with the characters and story. I can't guarantee it will be to your taste, still if you are on the fence and need a little nudge, I'd urge you to look back over the recent reviews and comments since I took over. They should give you some idea of the public sentiment and opinion since I took on the writing.

Thank you for your detailed review, certainly one of the most unique and interesting ones I have ever read. I will admit, I have never really considered how the game would be received by someone who hasn't played seasons 1 and 2.It's a fascinating take for certain, and I am glad you've been willing to give season 3 a go, even if you have no intention of playing seasons 1 and 2.

It makes me think maybe there should be a handy recap feature somewhere in the finished product... Just a small refresher of key events from season 1 and 2 to help players who are coming back to Lust Theory after a hiatus or those like you who want to just stick to this season.

I'm really looking forward to bringing everyone the conclusion soon. It's been fascinating seeing the hot takes on how things will wrap up and the comments bandied around for most likely scenarios for an ending to be encountered. I really hope the actual ending will satisfy fans and new players.

To be perfectly honest, I'm very pessimistic about this situation. I've been disappointed by developers and writers too often, even by top visual novels. But feel free to surprise me in a positive way.

Again, thanks for the honest take. Even if it's a bit brutal to read, I will always take honesty over blind praise any day. End of the day, all I can keep doing is my best, something I like to think I am bringing to the table with my work every day. I don't take on writing I'm not passionate about, and put my all into everything I put out into the world.

That will still not be enough for some. A casual runner's 5k run is not equal to an Olympians. I'm not saying I'm the 5k runner in this scenario, or an Olympian for that matter. Still, the point remains, I will do the very best I can by this story, as I have from day one, and I hope what I put out there resonates and works for the fans.

Not everyone will love it. I'm sure some will downright hate it. I even read in the steam discussion for the game right now that one player is refusing to purchase Season 3 or even give it a look unless we have at least one defloration scene with full blood on cock visible. Oddly specific reason to fully boycott a game, but to each their own.

Many here have taken time to remind me that I will drive myself mad trying to appease everyone, so here I'm just going to reiterate that I am putting my all into trying to make this season of Lust Theory the capstone the series deserves. I hope I succeed in the eyes and hearts of the players. But, if I don't, at least it won't be for want of trying.
