To be honest even if you're a dom top in this game, we can still play in bottom scenes and the MC suddenly has a personality switch. I guess some sub options are available because so the top doesn't feel like it is the minority.
I've played as versatile in my 1st playthrough, and it was very evident how the game "prizes" the bottom/receiving end players, even in flavor texts, compared to the dom counterpart.
The whole reputation system is also flawed to a degree, if you have a high reputation between enemies, they straight-up think you're a sub slut even if you're a dom, and the MC just goes with the flow.
This is just a small vent, I'm probably wrong in some aspects, and I still loved the experience and the characters we had so far, but it's clear how bottom-focused the game is.

I agree, that's the main reason I stopped playing this game years ago.

Already finished some of the quest already the black wolf and bareshade alliance quest remains and the story is getting more and more interesting now so at first appearance of mirage and nameless which of the did you guys pick? For me it's my favorite green mind controlling cthulthu demon and I didn't side with mirage but defeating her wast easy so luckily I cheated all the potions I needed to defeat her and prevented her from getting her hands on orgramms precious gem relics like nameless does but he knows I have another gem hahahaha can't wait for what's in store in the 0.66 update and this is the best game for me

Nameless tbh, I wanted Mirage to give me Khalgor as a sub after winning, but what I got was him chocking me and being an asshole as always.

Mirage is really difficult to defeat if you don't have a lot of potions specially health and restraint potions I have reload a few times just to defeat her now I am doing the rat quest and the handsome black knight beta werewolf quest and bareshade alliance quest and if you defeat mirage you won't have your green bodyguard anymore Korg will now stay in the iron blood camp

I'm not exactly sure what you mean here. I don't see why there's a distinction between 'giver' MC content and 'recipient' NPC content. As far as LD is concerned, most scenes come with two variations, a top!MC one and bottom!MC one (dom and sub are basically synonymous with top and bottom in this game and don't really factor in much, at least from what I've seen). I wouldn't think one takes that much more effort or time to write than the other.

Not really the reasons I'm playing Bara (or Bara-adjacent) games. At best, the dom/sub dynamics don't really do anything for me and are just there. At worst, they are very uncomfortable and a huge turn-off. And I don't really play these games to project myself onto the MC, either.


The crucial difference for me between the bottom!MC scenes in this game and bottom!Logan stuff, for example, is that the former is written from the first-person perspective and is clearly meant to be projected onto. As I said, that stuff does nothing for me and is usually just uncomfortable, which is why I avoid it.

I might just have a very biased perspective about this because it's just what I'm personally looking for in gay erotica and paying attention to, but I feel like there's definitely a way that the characters are framed in 'Bara' art/games, especially in the Japanese-made stuff, and how they are sexualised that suggest a "top" perspective, if there even is one (I use Bara here as a catch-all term for depictions that are visibly masculine and that put emphasis on this aspect).

Anyway, just to conclude, stuff like bottom!Logan, even though I hate a lot of things about this route, is what I find the most appealing in this game in terms of erotica. Conversely, characters like Gunnar are the exact opposite of erotic.

  • Normally strong NPC "bottom" needs build up / certain fetish like mind-control or corruption - requires more work.
• On the other hand, 'giver' MC (Excessive top / bottom) makes a very strong present:
  • You are making a strongly themed game;
  • very easy to break "roleplay" immersion;
  • NPCs need to bent to the will of MC, means less diversity, less creativity;
• If the game has equal amount of Top / Bottom for every NPC, then some of them will be shoehorned in "to fit the quota".

Example: Bottom Logan, is just him bottom all other males, with a theme of "Corruption" / "Mind broken". That's no difference from a bottom MC, just pronoun changes from "you (MC)" to "Logan / him".

IRL most gay are switch with preferences, assume the position depends on the partner / mood. Cuz they like 'men', not 'dick' nor 'asshole'. If they are 'excessively top / excessively bottom', indicate there's some other psychological causes going on.

Thanks for exposing this in a constructive way! I agree: even with all its problems, I still feel this is one of the most enjoyable naughty games we have.
We commonly forget that it's mostly a one-man product and, frankly, people often being really negative towards its development are mostly unpleasant, specially when their issue doesn't come from tangible lacks in the writing/art/mechanics, but rather from personal inclinations or whims. I feel like the writer is doing a lot to attend the biggest range of expectation from his audience. For example, I personally don't enjoy the Lizard race so much, but that doesn't mean that everytime a Lizard-related update comes up I throw a tantrum on how bad they are. I know there are people who enjoy that kind of physiognomy and I'm glad they get their share of content, as I'm glad, for yet another example, for people that like and get random sex scenes with no build up, that personally throw me off. I just ignore that kind of content and go on my way. To reconnect to the thread, I'm one of those who has a tendency to prefer humans and I can say I'm very satisfied about the amount of related content present in the game. I also enjoy that there are many other races who I am the more or the less attracted to: it enriches the game world and makes more people happy.

P.S.: I usually lurk here, so I take advantage of this post to vent a bit about a thing I noticed in the past too: why not giving the author the freedom to make their own choices about their own world and story? I'm talking, for example, about the reaction to the disappearance of a certain character. One can be of course sad or disappointed, but not bitter, angry and toxic. It's a work of fiction! It's a cliché, but really: if you don't like it, don't play it. For what it concerns me, I'll judge the whole thing when it comes to an end.

OK, I think I get what you mean now and I can agree that writing scenes where the MC is passed around by faceless NPCs is definitely easier and simpler to write than making actually developed romances with other characters that (sort of) naturally lead to intimacy.

I don't really agree, though, that the slant towards 'Top' MC content necessarily breaks immersion (even if that does happen sometimes).IMO, it doesn't require you to suspend your disbelief any more than any other erotic game premise, like how every NPC wants to have sex all the time or is very kinky and sexually fluid.

If for some players it's 'unrealistic' that all NPCs can bottom, then for me it's unrealistic that all of them are dom daddies who want to make the MC their cum dump or whatever.

I mentioned this in my previous comment, but I don't necessarily read erotica to project onto the characters. It's not about whether "I" am 'receiving' or 'giving', "I" don't want to be a part of this. It's about how the characters are described and sexualised, and playing as a "Top" MC simply creates opportunities for scenes I want to see.

Without getting too TMI, if just to put a label on it, I guess it's something like a 'fetish' for manly bottoms (but with a lot of other qualifiers). It's not about a baseline sexual attraction to men, if there even is any. I understand, though, that I'm a pretty big outlier here.

Of fucking course orcs (who are just green/red men) are lumped into the same category as werewolves and lizardmen. Meh. I'm guessing that category got so many votes because of how diverse it is. Romance being so far ahead is kind of unfortunate because it gets countless passages for quite little return, as opposed to enemies that get 5 paragraphs of fucking and that's it. I wish there was more variety in all of the sex scenes depending on the player's condition, like some do. Oh well. In general the options in that poll were also really weirdly described in my opinon. It is what it is, maybe we get some more major side story expansion at least.

Honestly I like dungeons as a concept for all of the reasons Hyao mentions. It's just they need to be a challenge with rewards in them, not an annoying obstacle on the way to a fetch quest.

Pretty much my case, I quit keeping up with the game around one of the northcrest updates even though I was an early patron since I didn't feel like playing a game that gives you the option to be something other than a bottom slut but punishes you with less content if you take it (though Zoroj quitting the project a bit after definitely helped that decision too since his art was a huge draw for me).

I actually would prefer if those kind of games just bite the bullet and went full sub bottom if that's what they want to do, the illusion of choice is more disappointing to me than just being told what to expect coming in. That being said hopefully that doesn't happen to LD for the sake of the few people into dom content still playing.

Afaik no, the changelogs around the last 12 updates didn't mentioned anything abt bttm Logan, or Logan in general.

He got some small scenes here and there in his "normal" route, but nothing so big as a sex scene or an updated focused on him. Take it as a grain of salt because I play as topMC and probably got more scenes if I played as a bottom around this time.
