Careful now, that whole "Pokemon is furry" and such is a conversation that can start a war.TBH there are loads of "Furry games" which focused on "game-play" even before word "furry" becomes so widespread.
Can you deny "Pokemon" is a furry game? Or "Animal Crossing"? How about "Spiritfarer" or "Undertale"?
I don't know why people suddenly become so sensitive and allergic to them.
It's just not many "Porn games" until recently.
And let's be honest, creating games (especially NSFW) are not easy, not many people are cut for a "game developer", but everyone is welcome to try, otherwise you'll never know - and that's why so many games are "abandoned".
For Porn game you need sexual-appealing art / image / animation / writing,
But for an "Actual" game with fun game-play, you'll need a totally different skill-sets.
And VN / text-based / RPGM are the most simplified genres which you can create a very appealing one with only the former + minimal game development knowledge.
Taking LD as a example, we all love the porn aspect of the game, but I bet not many are amused by its crafting system, battle, or the mindless grind.
Also the patreon system is quite flawed for game development:
Look at LD, it has been struggling to progress for quite awhile now (yes even the latest update) and experiencing big changes, but since people are watching it monthly, most of the time we just find disappointment.
- creating game is not factory production, you shouldn't force a set amount of contents with same quality drops monthly
- It let patreon haffects the development process, which is generally a bad thing
- Many creators are exploiting it to scam people, which widely pollute the market
- It also make creators to have the tenancy to "drag on" instead of "finish"
- Not to mention all the resourced wasted on PR stuff
If we give Hyao time, check back in a year or when the game is ready, it might be a totally different story.
Not long ago there's one guy praised LD for "having so much contents that he can't even imaging finish them all" cuz he's new to it. Ironic since the major complain is there's not much contents (besides the artists shift)
I wouldn't call it luck of the draw.
Although the tag system is far from perfect, but it's really not hard to find what're for you or not:
I never have this problem of "finding a game that lies to me about what it is".
- By looking at the Arts in the OP, the dev might not be sincere about the "description", but the pictures won't lie.
As long as you won't faint on the first sight of a fetish that's not for you (for those poor souls who spam "Is gay avoidable")
This also goes for you silverxrz, don't solely relies on the tags (It'll only piss you off), look into the First post. Most of the time it ain't tagged "incorrectly", it just aint what you are thinking it is.
And believe me, creating games in general isn't easy, porn or not. I've got at least 15 projects I haven't finished nor touched, some sexual (e.g. Resident Evil fan game), some not (e.g. RPG with a ton of sex options, no gender limits). Plus a few other ideas I can't hope to achieve (I have a three season furry BL anime written in my head complete with opening and closing animations by Man With A Mission. Sadly, I can't draw for shit, let alone animate). I was merely highlighting the order of popularity and how thin the market is for certain types, often watered down with VNs and text (which most people don't like as they prefer seeing actual FAWKIN'. Me? They're swing and miss, some are great, others not so). I apologize if it appeared as a complaint, I thought I'd kept my tone neutral.
And it's luck of the draw if you use one type of tag, given some games aren't fully tagged or the tags aren't entirely clear (so "gay" and "female protagonist" likely is lesbian, but "gay", "anal" and "handjob" is more likely gay). I actually cycle through like 7 depending on what mood I'm in (gay, anal, furry, animated, monster, group sex and occasionally character creation), spread across different tabs. I just felt like if I gave the advice at the time it'd sound odd somehow.
Hopefully I've properly explained myself. ^^
