I think you may be mistaken there.
It could very well be that they're not falling out of love of the project.
Rather, it could be that they've fallen in love with the income from the project.
Big difference.
Falling out of love with a project tends to lead to abandonment of said project.
Falling in love with the money leads to, usually, one conclusion: The rope-a-dope strategy.
In this case, the dopes are the ones who, as time will tell, continue to offer cold-hard cash for something that may not progress more then simple reskins/reshades of current content.
While I don't know the developer enough to say this is true for them, I compare the situation to a slumlord.
They've got the income from those who just NEED a place to live, however poor in quality it may be. After that, they don't care. Long as the building doesn't fall down around their ears and/or the authorities get involved, they couldn't care less. The money is coming in.
