The dev does come to this thread, generally after each new update. They have had 3+ years to state otherwise, and I've never seen anything different from the referenced post. So I can only assume nothing has changed in that regard, especially since people complain every single release that Sam is a lesbian, etc. It's ofc possible things are different, but I have no reason to assume so until I see an official statement by Raybae.

It's weird how some people can go on and on about one of the characters being lesbian and not a LI. Personally i find Sam as a good buddy to MC and prefer that it's a she instead of he. Seems like some people have hard time seeing man and woman be platonic friends with each other.

Normally, in Ren'Py self-voicing can be turned on and off with the letter V — have you already tried that?

Oh, I see. Yeah, I don't know enough about it to know how to manage that. I assume the game has to have code specifically to omit certain things from self-voicing. I have never looked into how to do that, however, so I'm not sure.

Sad to see this but I can say I'm not surprised. The last few updates have taken longer and longer to come out with no where near the amount of content as the last. Welp, hopefully it comes back but just like Grizloy, I'm not very optimistic when it comes to "on hold" games. Mostly they never come back or you get a 10min update every year or so.

It sounds to me just like he's got writer's block (or creator's block?). I obviously am not a mind reader, but I wouldn't jump immediately to the conclusion that this is basically abandoned. Every single developer is different. Even if 99 other developers all say the same thing and then abandon their games, there's no reason the 100th one couldn't bounce back and be just fine moving forward.

I'll just be honest with everyone here, for the last month or so, I have not worked on Maids and Maidens at all. I have just not enjoyed working on the game, and I have not been happy with where the game stands right now.

When I started working on this game back in 2020, I expected it to be done by now. I hoped I would be done with it by now and move onto other projects. I'm not blaming anyone else but myself for that. I have made the game more complicated than it needed to be, with too many characters and too many storylines. I thought I could handle it, but sometimes I just don't have the motivation to deal with it.

My revenue streams have also not grown in a substantial manner. Again, the blame is on nobody but me. The first impression is what matters the most in a crowded field, and I failed to make that first impression with my game. When I look back at some of the early renders I made, I want to throw my computer in the garbage. But none of this should matter to you. They are my own issues that I have to deal with. And I will deal with them. In the meantime, Patreon charges will remain paused.

I just hope I'm not burning bridges permanently with my supporters. I hope you all will be forgiving and keep supporting me the way you have done in the past.

I sure hope so. I really enjoyed this game and was looking forward to updates. The characters and the story are great and I felt invested in where everything was headed. I appreciate the honesty and it is hard to keep working on something when you feel the way you do. Just wanted to say that it stands out in a majorly positive way to me. And I'm sure that I'm not the only one that feels this way. Hope things turn around for you both with this game and life in general.

As someone who's been enjoying the game for free, I don't think I'm too good for honesty.

Games should please their fans, AND satisfy their creators, and that's always a hell of a balancing act.
Better to wait and create nothing than churn out something unimpressive.
