something i have never check is the quality of mtl for occidental language like, english to german or french to spanish

It's definitely than languages that uses kanji, cirilian, or any "system" that construct speech in a different way. MTL from russian or greek to english is absolutely terrible too. The closer related the languages are, the better the translation gets.
