Because non-NPC concubine (and harem extension) mechanics were added later. The initial number of heroines in the harem should be ALL based on female commanders.
I guess someone whined and the dev added hare/paid concubines later, spoiling the NTR.
And yes, knowing northern and southern passages, a player could easily outmaneuver royal guard and save all the girls.
Hahahaha in my case i was glad to have the paid concubines. i am not too good of a gamer and i would have easily lost if i had less generals in my army.

Just curious, is the Leanne series or anything else from Makura still someone’s absolute favorite NTR game? If so, how much of that is due to nostalgia/the cult following they got? If that game was released today and it had to compete with games like scars of summer, would you still put it at number 1?
Leanne 2 is my favorite NTR game to date. That gameplay on a strategic level similar to Rance and Daibanchou is just pure bliss. I hope Makura and other devs make something of that format again. My only complaints are that I can't ntr other people and become the new King.

Personal whims of mine are that I wish Ares had a bit more "dick power" or the ability to sort of build a Harem of his own, and there was a user active in the Leane 2 thread who made a mod that basically made that a possibility, though I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. A lot of names in recent posts are very familiar to me and they're people active in that thread helping others and still to this day keeping the conversation alive in there.
Here's why playing Baroque would have been better: If you lose, you're NTRed by the enemy generals. If you win, you can have your own harem and, depending on the lore, you can NTR Ares (or not if the author only gave him one girl, or nonel).
Basically, in Leane 2, the Protagonist has a reason to win, but the Player doesn't.

mate, i'd pay for Leanne 2 to come out again today, i'd rather play that than most of the more modern games that come out. the thing is, Leanne 2 had gameplay. and the NTR, was a consequence of your fuck ups during gameplay, it forced you to make decisions, forced you to move general properly to avoid them being captured, either by the king or the enemies.

my only grifts with Leanne 1 and 2 are:
-not difficult enough/too easy to cheese
-fucking kirikiri engine
-beside kassim, the others enemy generals look like cartoon vilain, especially the emperor with his face that is 45% mustache.

the rest still rocks more than most games on this website.
the characters were great and easy to like, which is capital in a NTR game.
odly enough i'll praise the plot(until the demon bullshit), even though it is unnecessary long and drawn out,the guy took a minute figuring out why all of this was happening, and why the NTR is justified and you can't act against it, only prevent it(unless you fuck up).

so to answer your question, to me, Nostalgia is not even part of the equation, it's just a good game, with good mechanics, good story and good seks.
This is it! i also personally like how you pretty much had control over it all aswell and could build relationships with the heroines unlike most Ntr games now where the Mc is pretty much irrelevant and only exists to call the game ntr lol i also enjoyed the gameplay even if as you said it's easy even on the hardest difficulty a few bombs and rescues and you pretty much win the game

Going back to Bride and Dungeon...i had an idea while looking at other ntr games... What if beside the quests we had a guild system that took Max and one girl and sent them on a mission to one of the maps (in the tutorial max and reinas friend go off as thieves for a mission)...and we could find them there..and depending on her status with max or the fat guy it could be reluctant, prostitution, sleep induced, or voyeur...

There's tons of potential scenarios that can be done in Makura's new game. I just hope the NTR system with the Inn is actually decent. The system felt pretty flat with no mystery in current demo

Plus the story made me care about the characters in the first half of the game.
I do hope that when it does release, the characters of Dungeon and Bride will be more fleshed out. Especially the girls. As it is in the current demo, they all kinda just get unconditional goo-goo eyes for protagman the moment they meet him.

Except Sylph, who takes several scenes to get anything from and you still don't get goo-goo eyes from her by the end of the current set of scenes. Without her being menhera about it like the pink-haired engineer girl from Leane 2 is. (I forget her name.) Sylph's comparatively slow-burn, which works better with NTR than just instant affection.

On top of Sylph having a reasonably DnD-ish character motivation for being an adventurer. The other girls have unstated or very vague motivations. Sylph was the only one with a clear goal in mind, finding a safe haven for her home town's inhabitants to move to. Traveling lots is the most effective way to find a safe place not yet found and claimed by any nation. With no money or resources to hire an expedition party, being an adventurer is the only feasible way to go to many different uncharted places in a short amount of time.

I wouldn't call Sylph an amazing character in a nutshell, but she definitely stands out in comparison to the other girls just by having a clear goal. Having a clear goal to pursue with her makes it a lot easier to get invested in her. If Makura went through rewrites, I hope he took the time to flesh out the other heroines more. Or at the very least that the story pulls weight where the characters don't to make you care for them.

This is where my main gripe with the demo is. With NTR, its rather important to actually like the characters. At this rate, even if the datamined NTR difficulty stuff that's not in the demo is in the full game, I'll still have an easy time getting the happy ending by just throwing all the other girls to the wolves to protect Sylph.

Yeah, Sylph is honestly my favorite atm of the characters in the game.

btw, pink hair engineer girl from Leane 2 is Marion.

I think the real big problem with this game is that it was announced really early and its breaking too much deadlines. The dev should know his own pacing and not do this kind of stuff. But taking its time to do what he loves its a must, and rush stuff just because there is people getting impaciente is unreasonable. If you want to do something good, u really need to think about it and that takes time. Anyway just my thoughts about the topic.
Tbh they shouldn't have really dropped any release dates to begin with if they were not confident they would have been better off with semi frequent progress reports and or devlogs the thing people are getting pissed about is the forever moving release date i personally only came across this game a few months back and i'm a fan of their previous works so it doen't bother me too much but some people have been chasing it for years from the looks of it
Tbh, I'd rather have a JP dev giving a release date way too early and continually delaying (since I'm not paying up until the game drops anyways) than them going quiet until they are like one-two months away. A JP dev going quiet means you don't know if they are quietly working on a project, or if they just straight up died or retired. A lot of JP devs release massive games and then just never update ever again on where they are taking future projects. Makura cover soft's approach at least keeps me in anticipation of something fun coming out eventually (which is good because I can imagine what might happen in the game) and lets me know they're still alive and working.

Leane 2 is probably my favorite eroge period. I love the gameplay and sex scene loop of constantly fighting back internally and externally to keep the girls safe while also having the strategic and tactical aspects to balance against keeping them safe for needing to continually push your campaign forward. It makes the love route feel all that sweeter, which is an aspect I like in a well-made netorare game. The last act with the demon king guy is probably the only bad part imo since it throws all that out the window and just becomes a "quickly kill the final boss" schtick. It's a little better with the light novel expansions since it gives more build-up and story to how the king became corrupted and possessed by the demon guy, but it's still not the best compared to just playing the strategy and kingdom stuff straight.

My only real complaint on the sex scenes is there aren't more of the "random" ones that occur if you place two characters from your army together or fulfill a heroine's quest incorrectly, like with Seria and Cheetah or Beatrice and the pirate, or in Leane 1 where you send Leane to recruit the champion gladiator guy instead of the MC and she gets seduced by him. That's not a real complaint though since the creator already provides a lot of content as is so I'm still happy with what we got. That's just more a preference thing since those being more "random" compared to the formulaic king and enemy captures could catch you off guard and add extra spice just because you aren't expecting them. If I could mod and write (and also knew how to open this game's files at all), I'd probably want to try to add those in myself.

All that is why I'm excited for this game. The dungeon crawling loop is pretty fun and I feel as the difficulty increases that keeping everyone's lust under control will make combatting the NTR also pretty fun as well. It's already a bit fun to me right now, just a bit easy since we're confined to the easier areas.

Are there any veterans here who were present when Leanne or some other makura game was released? Was it sudden with no prior update or exact date? If he’s really releasing during that Golden Week thing later this month, maybe he’s just edging us or this is his style.
Leane 2's release was a disaster
He released at the End of Feb 2017 with the previous blog post being a month earlier.
I use the word 'released' in only a 'technically released' sense.
That game was so buggy it was nearly unplayable.
Take a look at the blog posts from back then (page 3 on his blog)
I think he deleted all the comments as I can't see them anymore which is a shame.

yeah, that was a dumb moment on my part. Forgot that his blog goes all the way back to Leanne 2 release.

It was a good read—it gave me a better sense of what kind of developer Makura is. It made me realize that when I called the commenters predicting a 2026 release insane, I was probably wrong. 2026 would actually be a realistic pace for Makura. Honestly, even 2027 isn’t off the table.

Also, is his name Makurasoft or Futon Pasta? Is Makura the name of the company or group, and Futon Pasta just the personal nickname of the founder and blog writer?

I'm not 100% sure but I believe that is the case. Makura Cover Soft is the name of the circle (what doujin "companies" are called*), while Futon Pasta is the guy's username on his blog.

* Might be worth noting here that while we typically associate doujin circles with porn, it really just means a hobbyist, i.e. someone (or a group) who makes something for fun and decides to sell it for a few bucks rather than a formal company that is trying to make money

we're approaching the the last week of April but still no news, but if he was going to delay it again he would have already made a post about it by now

There are still ten days left, which is a lot of time for him to make an update and postponement. If you look back at his blog during Leanne 2’s development, he typically only updated with delays or apologies around the actual release window—either a few days before or after the expected date. For example, on page 3, his October 15, 2016 post mentioned a mid-November release, and the next update didn’t come until November 23, a few days after that target.

As expected, the delay announcement was released. This time, it was postponed to May and a new trial version was given. The free mode that was blocked in the previous version was also opened.
Fortunately, we have new playable content to pass this time, instead of waiting with almost no movement.
According to the author, there are problems with audio adaptation. I don’t know if these problems can be solved in about a month.
(Additional)
Well, after playing for a while, the classic bug of not opening the door appeared in the North Star Temple. This bug has appeared in the early versions of various versions, and some old players should be very familiar with it.
The free mode also had an error and crashed when entering the team name after reading the previous version of the save. This problem seems to be a classic bug. Unfortunately, the free mode must enter the team name once, which is unavoidable.
Maybe I should wait for the 3.0.1 patch. Just like the previous versions, the first version always lacks the most basic running tests, resulting in some vicious bugs that make it impossible to advance.
