So from my take....Marina is there at the party, witnessing the conversation with Moriatis (and not buying it). Elena is still Team Nikos, lies to get daughters about having to use the bathroom, and attempts to zip off to meet Nikos ( is Marina Nikos' helper there to handle Eva and Sofia?). On the way out, Joanna purposely bumps into her, Elena drops her phone which Joanna retrieves and Elena continues on to the limo without it. This isn't confuses me....does she not recognize Joanna? And it seems obvious she knows she dropped the phone but makes. I attempt to get it back...just because she's in a rush? I'm confused here, but she doesn't have her phone and gets locked in the limo with not Filip, but James!
This seems to go along with Marinas theory - James ( Seferi's son) in league with Joanna. Where are they taking Elena? To meet someone? seferi? - seems doubtful as he has been trying to maintain his cover with Elena. Gjoka? Orlov? Or are they planning to kill her as part of the insurance scam? We still have no idea of what new improved Joel is supposed to do here and time is running short.

Yeah... WHAT?! This scene makes no sense whatsoever. Elena is staring at her phone as she drops it, and she just leaves it behind?! Come on. Even if she was in a rush, she was actively receiving important texts from Nikos at that very moment. There's no chance she'd just say "fuck it, I ain't got 3 seconds to bend down and pick up a phone". It would have made way more sense if Joanna had been carrying an identical phone and switched them when they fell on the ground. If the goal is to make sure Elena can't call for help, then the decoy phone could be broken and Elena would just think it broke when it hit the ground.

Thank you for confirming that it was extremely odd - I kept trying to make sense of it and failed completely.

So, the events make no sense: Not recognizing Joanna, just ditching the phone... Hell, Joanna counting on Elena to be holding her phone in such a way that a slight budge would cause her to drop it AND counting on her to leave it behind...

All of that aside, let's suspend our disbelief, and assume for a second that this is all according to plan. Joanna is taking Elena's phone.

It doesn't make sense to me that it's to keep Elena from calling for help. Help from whom, at this point? She's already unable to go to the police because that's already been off the table. The daughters... aren't in any position to do anything. At best, she calls Marina for help, and it's not like Marina has any real resources to do anything either. So there's no threat here.

And given that Elena is picked up by James, who is supposed to be Seferi aligned, my best guess is that they want Elena's phone. Now the weird part to me is that they contacted Elena using Nikos' number, so it's unlikely they need Elena's phone to lure in Nikos. It's also weird because if they already have Nikos, that seems more important than Elena.

Could be that the mind control drug is real and they're going to bring in Elena to get her in line so they can go back to wedding planning.

Alternatively, they know Marina is poking around too much and they need Elena's phone to lure in Marina.

All that said, that's me grasping at straws. Just a bit burned out by this mystery box back and forth.

Not recognizing Joanna
I believe we are meant to think that Elena was so engrossed reading her phone that she didn't even look up to see who she bumped into. You can see her phone is still up in front of her face in the panel just before the collision:

Which makes it all the more insane that she would have just left the phone behind. And that also begs the question: was that part of Joanna's plan? If so, how could she have possibly anticipated not being noticed by Elena when she was walking directly toward her?

I guess if I'm to kidnap someone I'll take precautions to make sure they don't phone for help rather than assume nobody will help them if they do call someone.

Not saying I have experience kidnapping people but there is enough technology to jam a signal if you're really into kidnapping someone that's available on the free market. No need to use brute force when modern age can help you out to prevent a phone call.

Last time I kidnapped someone, I just took their phone after locking them in my car.

I mean, I'm not a kidnapper, you're a kidnapper!
