VN - Ren'Py - Completed - Melody [v1.00 Extras] [MrDots Games]

I give the initial release of the game 4 stars for being decent in length and good in production value. As there will hopefully many updates, this evaluation may change.

The dev has many fans and also critics, so I am going to give an overview as to what has led to me to deduct one star, or give 4 stars, respectively.

Story / Gameplay: The meat of the game. It is mainly a story driven VN with lots of small choices that allow for minor changes in the narrative, thus personalizing the experience to a degree, which is good in my books. It is overall a pleasant narration, with little drama. There are some minor inconsistencies though, some of which might be changed in the future, but one that annoyed me is the breakup in the prologue. The girlfriend, not wife, decides to break up with the protagonist. They dont have children and both are working, with no indication of any major "offences" on either side (no affairs, or domestic violence). Still, she decides to keep all major assets and then sue for more money. I cant imagine a legal system in which this is realistic. It doesnt have any impact (yet), and is more of a side-note, but if it will come up again it will be a big annoyance.
Coupled with the rather unsurprising story-flow, I can only give this 4/5, with potential to go either up or down in the future.

Technical aspect: The game is made in Ren'py, which is a good choice for this type of game. The developer surely has some experience in making the needed mechanics work well in the background. While the interface isn't fancy or innovative, it does not have to be. 5/5

Character models / other 3D art assets: All the models are well-customized and the backgrounds, clothing and items used are fitting and well utilized. I'd give this 5 stars, but have to deduct one point for unrealisticly young looking characters. If the dev wants to make a game featuring twelve year olds, he should just get off patreon and do that openly, not claim they are of college age. 4/5

Erotic content: Not much to see here yet, in relation to the non-erotic content. There are some scenes though, mostly involving side characters, including one full sex scene at the beginning. Very vanilla, and while not cringeworthy, not very exciting either. As the game is in early development, I dont give too much weight to the ero-content for now, but a few updates down the line I expect much more. 3/5

I like the story, and the choices of girls are really good. Mrdots really know how to make beautiful girls. Melody is gorgeous!

What can I say, it looks and feels like Date my Doughter devs made another game. With similar things added together but better. Especially models of characters, dick of our Mc.. should be more normal looking than the one from dating my doughter. For now we have one main target of our affection, one sex partner which most likely is one time thing. Friend from new town Becca, Aunt of our apprentice etc. Till now we have wide veriety of cute girls to choose from.

I hope that it will only get better. One bug which I found was when I helped Melody choose a present for Aunt. Game did not recognize my decision to abandon job application with someone else.. it might be couse It was a wrong choice to do by authors. Yet it doubled my music notes of affection with Melody, so I don't really can tell which I chose then.

For a first release I need to say that it has much content, likeable characters and sweet models of those characters.

Like Dating my doughter but more refined. I still hope for ending of that game..

Lets hope for as much content in next uploads of both DMD and Melody.. Especially DMD, couse after endind that I wish thet devs will focus their full attention on Melody. Which has better models and incest.. NOT. Which is nice couse after getting through INCEST BOOM, we have need for more normal games.

Damn good if I may say so - then again, I have a vested interest as a no pay developer, so what does my vote really mean...but the characters are fairly well developed as the game begins for and adult VN; the first sex is realistic given the pregame relationships; and all the female characters are very attractive - although the jury is still out in the librarian who I’m hoping does not smell like vapor rub.

I liked DMD a lot and this has a similar vibe. In fact it is better beccause that father-daughter fetish gets a bit annoying after a while i find. So this is a nice change. I also really like the facial expressions on the girls. it is not something other games really focus on.

As for the game, Melody has a similar character as D in the sense that she's sweet, naive and not extremely intelligent. However she has the above less extreme as D and combined with a few quirks makes her a very believable and likeable character.

The other women, the aunt and the neighbour are also very likeable characters to the point that it may become difficult to chose...

The renders are excellent, especially of the characters.

Great game from the get go. MrDots really knows what he is doing, both with story telling, and character appearances. The game Melody has great potential and the character of Melody just looks sweet as well.

[Early Impressions]

Came into Melody somewhat skeptical as the setting isn't really my bag but the Mr Dots gang is off to a great start with this.

Top notch renders, nice models (Isabella, Becca and Melody are hotties but in very different ways) and although there's some inconsistencies in the writing, it's still better than 95% of the other VN's out there.

This is a meaty 0.01 too, the team have given us a good introduction to the initial characters and have proven to me that they're still worth supporting.

Can't wait to see where this takes us, let the hype train roll on!

Pretty early to cast any serious impressions since at this time it's only version 0.001 but in my humble opinion it looks like it really has some kind of potential. The game does indeed have that "MrDots fingerprint" on it and for some (as me) it can be a big plus or for others it can be a big minus.
So far the storyline looks intriguing and promising in that it can be nicely expanded in many ways regardless that the "teacher - student" thing is kinda of a cliche it kinda compensates with the other characters and again..we shall see where all this will go.
The characters in the game look absolutely gorgeous and as far as visuals go i think are more then decent.
My overall impression about the game is that it's something more then average and exactly what i had expected to be and maybe that's one of the biggest drawback, that it isn't more then that...come to think of it it's biggest drawback is that it's not DMD but then again it's a huge hole that it had to fill.

Some people play games for erotic content others play it for the story. Story wise the game is solid erotic wise it lacks. If you like panty shots, bend over shots, and cleavage shots this is your game.

If you want actual sex well other then a one off fling for two weeks the MC gets nothing except hugs and pecks on the cheek.

I can't give this game any higher rating star for this reason. When Mr. Dots starts deciding to make porn games instead of soft porn I'll raise it but anyone who play DMD knows that will never happen.

My Review for version 0.01
This is the same person that created Dating My Daughter, a game that became quite popular and drew in alot of supporters and fans and for a good reason. Here is how I rate this game and how I came to my star rating:

Story 5/5 -> Story is interesting and worth reading. One of few games that I actually care about the story. Especially considering this is V0.01, you get alot for that version number.

Dialog choices 3/5 -> This is a hard one to judge. It looks like you can have different dialogs depending on your choices (even though they seem bugged at the moment) but also, the history says that just like DMD that if you have not scored enough points you will get "Game over", meaning that it becomes wrong choice = game over, not as bad as Slonique games though but still annoying. If I need a walk-through to NOT get a game over, I am not enjoying the game. I will have to revisit this with later updates.

Sexual Content+spelling 5/5 -> Spelling is good and you can have sex already. Considering this is V0.01 I call that impressive.

Domination/bdsm 0/5 -> No domination path and no bdsm path. These are one of my fetishes in games so I have to include them in my reviews.

Pregnancy 0/5 -> No Pregnancy route as of yet, this might change in later updates though.

Over all that leaves 13 points out of 25 resulting in 52% or 3 stars.

0-20% -> 1 star
20-40% -> 2 star
40-60% -> 3 star
60-80% -> 4 star
80-100% -> 5 star

Best game of the year so far, What do you expect? It's Mr.Dots game again. He really impressed all of us with his second game.

Art: artwork is absolutely stunning. Models are very hot especially Amy and Melody. The background quite unique as it was set somewhere in Europe. There are more images for the first release of the game. 5/5

Story: Beautiful story and very realistic which goes well balanced with the art. This is not a usual adult game where you fuck every girl without purpose. 5/5

Hotness: There is a sex scene beginning with Isabel, It's quite hot as she fucks you unexpectedly. Other scenes where you can only view ass, boob, and kiss girls on the cheek or put on the waist. You can't see melody naked yet as a writer kept it surprise for the next release. It's actually hot though!

Route: Can't say anything yet. You need to earn 25 points with Melody to raise relationship, So far I have completed 16 points and not sure if I have missed any points. We may have to wait for more updates to actually write a better walkthrough.

Conclusion: Best release for the first version. It has many contents for a 200+MB game. I salute the developer for his hard work. This game definitely has potential and I give five stars!

This. Was. Outstanding!

Tons of great, high-quality, renders by Mr, Dots (as expected).
A fun and engaging story, maybe a bit heavy on the dialogue, but eh, so was DmD.
5 or 6 totally different hot models, each with what looks like their own storyline.
Actual sex, in the opening release.
Way more content than I was expecting for 300 M.

This one really faded to the finish, with a slew of unknowable event choice outcomes.

When I started playing this I didn't expect much. The images looked really good and the concept was different from what we usually see here. I was very surprised when I got over an hour of play time out of a v0.01 game.

The models were excellent and as far as I know, original. I don't remember seeing any of these in other games. Maybe similar models, but enough of a difference to seem original.

I really enjoyed the story also. It's not an incest story which again is pretty unique around here. It was a fresh, well written story that I could relate to. There were a few misspelled words but I can understand easily missing those on a proof read. I don't know if English is the author's first language but either way, great job. This is one of a handful of games that I really enjoyed all facets of the game.

Wow, for a first release it's fantastic, far above what we usually see with an actual story and a TON of content. This is good, really good. From start to finish it's a well crafted tale with believable characters and behavior _ very well done indeed. This game (VN) is definitely one to watch ... plus after that Pool scene I cant wait to get Amy nekid

Fantastic new project by MrDots. Melody is a great character and the model is amazing to look at. The story is solid and so far, all the other characters have been interesting. Can't wait to see more!

In this game there are no drawbacks. MrDots honed his craft to create games and Melody the perfect one to measure.
Very pleased with the characters especially Melody, this is a very emotional character, she is smart and bold, wants tor seem adult, although inside she is a very vulnerable child who has lost the most precious thing in her life - the Mother. She is like a breath of fresh air after the daughter of MC in DMD who, as sometimes seems backward in mental development.
This is an excellent visual novel!

This was a pleasant surprise! The models are (imo) better than in DMD, especially the main character. The story and the pacing seem good so far. There's a good amount of content to build up characters and the story.

Looking forward to seeing where a few updates will take this!

This essentially being a first release, it's already showing a lot of promise.

Before I start reviewing this game, I want to compare it to MrDots' previous release, DMD. DMD had just about as many flaws as it did perks. This game fixes most of the gripes I had with that game, and I'm really impressed with what MrDots has produced here. Realistic characters, no incest in this incest-ridden world of games we live in and a credible story, all these factors contribute to a really good experience.

Before giving this game a shot, I was a bit worried from MrDots' previous release, but felt I had to give it a shot because of how beautiful the main female character looked. All the characters look visually pleasing, and you're even given the option to start a relationship with most of them! This is really nice for people that have different preferences. I'm especially pleased MrDots decided to make her cup size normal, and a realistic head-body ratio. She's very pretty.

The plot is pretty good, believable backstory with a nice introduction to characters and current events. There aren't a lot of plot holes, but in my opinion, the Isabella story was a bit lackluster. Seems the dev is continuing his norms from DMD, this "slow burn", slowly corrupting characters over time. I prefer this style of gameplay, if I wanted to fap, I could just watch a porn. I play these games for both a good story and a rewarding ending, and this looks like it's heading in the right direction.

I feel like I'm nitpicking, but there are a few grammatical errors in this game. Wrong names, apostrophes missing (or even one too many, especially looking at "you're"), and even words missing. Not a huge deal, it's mostly fine, but I'd prefer there be none!

If there is something I would say is missing, it's music. It's a music related game! Throw some tunes in there, it could really help improve the setting and atmosphere of some of the events!

All in all, this is a great demo. Really lengthy, as you'd have come to expect from a dev this size. Excellent idea to make the first release last two episodes, and he does a really good job drawing you in.

TL;DR: Fantastic (and realistic) looking characters, credible story, slow burn progression. Definitely do try, even if you have preconceptions about it because of DMD.

The following review is based off my personal experience with playing this Game/Visual Novel... I try to be as brutally honest and detailed as I can, and these are my own opinions and thoughts, from one or more play throughs... The version this review is based on is v0.01...

This is a very good visual novel/game so far...

The visuals of the characters are top notch for both the characters and backdrops... All the characters are properly proportioned and look realistic, rather then just a bunch of fake super models with implants all over their bodies... Which is a big thumbs up... A couple backdrops looked familiar, but still pretty clear and crisp... There are a few animations, which are pretty good, albeit short... The UI is pretty decent looking as well...

The script is pretty good, although I did run into just a few spelling/grammar errors as well as a couple missing words... There was also a few moments when the wrong character names showed up for the text being shown (happened with Isabella's name when the protagonist spoke once, Melody's name and the protagonists names got mixed up twice), so there is some bugs in the code to work out...

The plot revolves around a male protagonist musician who has been on the road for around 10 or so years working with various music bands/groups, filling in as needed... He then has a major break up with his longtime girlfriend/fiancé... And decides to try some other things out, and so moves away to start fresh... From there several things occur to him, which I will not into too much detail on... Lets just say he decides to move to a small town and becomes a music tutor for a college student, after selling his ex's guitar to the students Aunt, who offers him the job and a place to rent...

Along the way, and once he arrives there, he meets several different woman characters... All of which you are offered opportunities to work on possible relationships with, to include the main heroine, the musical student, Melody... Melody is a bit head strong, but depending on choices, a relationship seems to just begin to spark between her and the protagonist... And she begins to act less bratty...

This is your typical visual novel, with lots of choices... And depending on those choices, the protagonist can open up various opportunities with relationships, either more friend based, or maybe eventually more romance based, in future content... But the primary love interest obviously is focused more around Melody... Which you can tell, because of the obvious title, as well as her relationship stat that is on the UI at all times (the musical note in the upper right corner)... So some choices will build up or tear down that stat with her, and sometimes you will see a choice made several choices back ,not effect that Stat right away, but actually effect the stat in later content based off that choice from earlier... So some choices do matter, even if they don't appear to, exactly when made... It's definitely different from how some other VN/Games I've seen handle choices and stats...

Now some women you meet will become available for relationship building, which you can only see, from the Melody portrait by clicking it, and then selecting Other Girls... At that point, you can actually lockout a character from further relationship building, in case you want to limit that... I'm unsure if the locking and unlocking will have any baring on relationships with other characters or the main heroine... It could be bad or could be good, and in either case, seems like a complex system to have added... Will it even really matter, beyond content you want to see or avoid? I don't know... It's a bit confusing, as it is not really explained, as to how much of an effect that function has, if any real effect at all, beyond just ignoring the relationship or not... I would hope it isn't going to be necessary to pay much attention to it for fear of ruining relationships, just because you didn't turn a particular woman off or on... Guess we'll need to wait and see...

Beyond some of the names being mixed up, that I mentioned earlier... I ran into another bug, on the same portrait screen... If you select Your Info, it throws an error in Ren'py if you try using it early on in the game... Later on it works fine...

Overall, I really liked this visual novel/game... It actually has a lot of content for an initial version... And I absolutely love that it has so much deep and meaningful story... It seems, for the moment, to be going down a romance/love theme or at least sparking of romance/love between various characters and the protagonist... I really hope it keeps that up... There is a lot more realism in how this story plays out so far, and doesn't got overboard with melodrama or over the top characters...

At least not way over the top, as I did find that the ex-girlfriend was a bit of a jerk, going after the protagonist financially... I mean, they were never married, so how does she even think she could go after all his stuff legally? Even with a common law marriage, there are limitations on what she could really go after, especially since she worked almost as many hours as he did... But for the moment the protagonist just lets her have most of what she goes after, which was actually surprising, except for 1 car... Just hope she keeps her butt out of the rest of the story... Because that is just over the top melodrama waiting to happen if she does... And I'm pretty sure I'ld be pretty upset with her continued existence in the story...

At first I was a bit skeptical about Melody's friend Sophia... She seems like that over the top personality friend, who's just a sexual pervert out to corrupt her friend... At least that is how she seemed in the beginning, but not so much near the end of the current content... Plus, she looks like she may be the same character model as Melody, as Sophia's face just looks like a slightly modified version of Melody's...

In any case, with it's few quirks, I still really enjoyed this story and how well it looks and feels so far... And I hope it keeps up it's current pace... There are not as many erotic scenes as a few folks out there may prefer... But erotic/adult visual novels/games don't always have to be porn fests to be good... And I hope this one never goes the way of a porn fest... That would just kill it's current momentum in my opinion... I really look forward to seeing this one go forward, as it shows a LOT of promise right now... I will definitely revisit this one some time in the future...
