A lot of people don't pay attention and just let things slide. When something is automatic, it's easy to overlook, especially if it's at a low level.
Also, real life happens to subscribers too, and they might not be able to stop automatic payments.
Also (I'm not a paying customer, so I don't know in his case), but it's possible that he has suspended payments. If so, why bother unsubscribing?

And since Nefastus hasn't been heard from in over a year, not even a log into their discord -- don't know why anyone would want to subscribe or join the discord, anyway.

I comply with your point of view, but due to the lack of concrete evidence, I prefer myself not too speculate on such hypotheses. It is more likely, as is often the case with many developers facing difficulties, that he simply stopped to work on it for various reasons. He would not be the first or the last to do so. Moreover, I don't like those people who rush to announce someone's death without any proof, and who sometimes even seem to take pleasure in it.

People from his discord on occasion spoke to him offline, at least one. When they have no news and no word it can only mean really bad life circumstance. 15 people can have something in common but that means nothing for a 16th person.

He may have decided to stop for a variety of reasons : fatigue, a sense of failure regarding his AVN, the desire to focus on new, demanding personal projects, a new job, emotional changes (a new partner, a baby, etc.), family or social pressures related to this activity (perhaps looked down upon in certain circles or cultures), or health issues (not necessarily life threatening), either physical or mental, although these are not the only possible causes.
He could also have been a victim of cyberbullying by a malicious individual, for instance.
He wouldn’t be the first to quit without warning or to disappear for a long time before possibly returning. In short, there could be many reasons, some of which we may never know. It is also normal to want to protect one’s privacy and remain somewhat anonymous online.
Many developers fail or abandon their activity, often pursued alongside other daily responsibilities. It’s a field where many face difficulties and are unable to make a decent living from it. The reasons for these abandonments or failures are numerous.
I am simply mentioning possibilities or cases that have already been observed on F95 among many developers. This is to say that the reasons for this development halt could be numerous and not necessarily what we might imagine.
That’s why, as for me, I prefer to suspend my judgment and simply acknowledge the halt or abandonment of this AVN, whether voluntary or not on the part of the developer. And why exactly did you quote me with this? I literally said it is a POSSIBILTY that he passed away due to previous health problems but that none of us knows.

Furthermore, health problems, yes, it's possible, but we don't know anything for sure, and it can be very broad, ranging from serious to much less serious, not necessarily involving a life-threatening prognosis.

I hope to whatever god might be out there that it isn't death. He has had his health problems, both physical and mental, for sure, but he has also had a lot of family drama. My hope, he is just out there, somewhere, getting mentally better. If he does return (which almost a year later I lost all hope), I do hope it is with the caveat that all is well... and if he doesn't return, well, I guess we just enjoy Midlife Crisis for what it is, with all its content, and remember how damn good some of these VNs can be.
