Ren'py is perfect for simple VNs as that is its primary purpose. But when these games get more complex, open-world and shit like that, it gets harder to code the bigger the game gets. Unity doesn't.
I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. More complex games get harder to code no matter what the engine used is.

Have you seen a lot of open-world related coding errors in Milfy City or Water World? I haven't. Just the usual "whoops had the wrong if conditional" or "set the wrong flag".

I, personally, would much rather write a sandbox VN in Ren'Py using Python than Unity using c#. This said as a c++ programmer.

I am glad with port back to renpy, i never understood the switch to unity anyway if you are good with 1 thing stick to it. Renpy also plays much better then unity on my system. i still hope he does not take much on his own place since this is no Dream of desire so a quick port is not something you can easily do if are already pretty far with the coding part, just because this works under unity it may not even work right under renpy or vice versa.
it's not official we are only debating about it

How is not official?
"So the news, I'm porting Midnight Paradise to Ren'py. Yeah, back to the roots. (It's the same engine that Dreams of Desire is running on)
Luckily, it's still early in the game's life cycle so I can make this decision comfortably. I decided this a few days after the last release and I've been working on it since."

I really loved Dod, one of the first game i played here . The plot was really so unique , original with a final twist really impressive . Till now the bad end was one of the most successful that i remember in a adult game.
I didn't play till now to Midnight Paradise , i was waiting for more contents before beginning , but reading this thread , i'm afraid that i'll be disappointed from this game ; i'm afraid that also what you wrote before about this switch to another Engine , it show the fear of the Dev to try new roads . I think that i'll wait a little bit more , going on to read your comments , hoping to have some positive surprises
I would say that the most appropriate word would not be: fear ...of trying new roads ..
It was a mature decision from Dev, he was not familiar with the engine (and new to many Dev too)
Unity's range of tool and features is undoubtedly tempting, but in the end if you do not have absolute control, and experience when problems happen, it becomes a nightmare ..
For experience and greater control it demands free time and disposition (and free time studying the engine is investment, not direct money in the pocket)
And Unity is not free of bugs in the own engine, in each update !!
On the other hand , say that Renpy is limited is overkill ,see BrokenDreamers / Phillygames ..
Good CGs have never been a problem for Dr Sin and now with an engine he's used to working with ..
Work ..... will be to improve the story ... but it is already a good start.

Thanks for your insights , i like to understand more about some Dev choices , everybody can never stop to learn , also a good and professional Developer like Dr Sin is.
In Every case i'll wait next update with Ren'Py version to begin to play ; i think is useless to begin now the game

So, is the game still a buggy mess? Cause the last time I tried it, I couldn't access any new content except sofa. That was really annoying.

I would like to write a VN in Ren'Py using C# - but that's mostly down to me preferring strongly typed languages ;)

But joking aside - it's definitely easier to get Ren'Py to do Sandbox Gameplay to the scale it's done in other VNs by adding stuff on top of the rock solid VN foundation contained there than it is to build a VN at all in Unity (no matter wether or not it's going to be Open World). I wonder what specific Features made Dr Sin switch to Unity in the first place - perhaps some day he'll tell People (perhaps if he manages to get those Features into the Ren'Py Version).

Anyway - I hope he'll be able to give us a stable release this month.

The decision to port it back to Ren'py is a good one.

However i am genuinely wondering if at this point it's too little too late...

There are way too many really good games to chose from that don't have massive hiccups like these.

Hopefully LewdLab pulls through.

Quick question. No matter what version i download ( the 32 or 64 bit) i dont have the map button. Can someone who has the map button give a save from the absolute beginning of the game, so i can start playing it?

Many thanks
