When is the new update coming out? Is it in January???
nobody knows. It could be this weekend, next week or next year...
But the dev told us that all renders are ready and there is still "programming stuff" that need to be fixed

I don't understand why devs keep wasting time on Xmas updates? like no one gives a shit about them
True, it would make more sense if the devs made bonus content to a game that has already been finished, like Dreams of Desire.

Making a special for a game that is still early in development makes no sense.

premise, in recent months I have read and seen little, I wanted to avoid spoilers

from what I understand the update had to come out last Sunday (7 days ago), so this means that it's almost finished, now I don't think it comes out next year, I think it's now a matter of days

but he on Discord who says?

Devs talk a big game to convince people to pledge on patreon, in reality they are unprofessional and lazy. I seriously doubt any of these devs claiming to work on their games full time actually work on their games as much as they claim or act like they do.

I mean just think about it, at the end of the day all these games are just VNs, render some pictures, write some text, and plug it into ren'py. These games aren't really complex, and if you figure an update takes 3 months to come out then that'd be 480 hours of development time if they were working full time. 480 hours to make an update for an update that's not even an 1 hour long? Seems pretty ridiculous to me, I feel like if devs were actually working on their game for 480 hours the updates would be much, much, bigger.. It seems even more ridiculous when you consider lots of those devs claim to be spending their money on other staff members to help take the load off, or fancy expensive rigs to speed up rendering times, that supposed 480 hours spent working on the game for an update that ends up being 30 minutes just doesn't make sense to me.

I feel like the typical development cycle for an update is spend the first 8-10 weeks working on the game sparsely, work on it for an hour here, an hour there, whatever. Then the 3rd month comes up and they spend the next 2-4 weeks cramming everything in which is why Devs are never capable of giving accurate estimates for release dates. It's hard to estimate when an update will finish when you've hardly worked on it and you have to cram everything in at the last second. It's why I'll never pledge to any of these devs, I'm not gonna pay people not to work lol.
Preach, brother. That sounds a lot like what we have in the main branch of video game industry, where nowadays before buying something people will check steam(?) reviews, watch some gameplay videos at youtube, then perhaps torrent the game and see what's up. Then, and only then, if the game is good, they buy it officially. That's the most consumer friendly way and should not be battled, i mean, look at CDPR and their DRM free stuff.

The system that we see at patreon is flawed. And anyway, if might not be that bad, if developer will actually have a day-to-day communication with community, like guys from Paradox did when they launched Pillars of Eternity crowdfund campaign and checked forums frequently to have a dialogue with their backers. Cmon, isn't this common sense?

What we see today is just sad. Wonder what we could do about it.

I just think it's crazy. All these big devs supposedly have all these people and other staff members helping them make the game, they supposedly have all these expensive and fancy machines to speed up rendering times so they can render multiple images at once, and they're supposedly working on it full time, some even claiming they work more than that. Then when the update comes 3+ months later after a supposed 480+ hours of work put into it (actually even more when you consider lots of devs say multiple people are working on the game) you get an update that's 30 minutes long. You have to take everything devs say with a grain of salt, worst case scenarios they're liars, scammers, and milkers, best case scenario they're just incompetent. Either way, those aren't people I want to give my money too lol.

Yeah, pretty much. I actually frequently think about "How with all those people supporting them financially and advicewise, with them sometimes having a dev team that consists of more than 1 employee, they still can't produce a meaningful content?(amountwise, storywise)"

And so far, I really see 2 problems:
1. Render times. I've rendered a simple 1080p render with just object-background and a clothed model and it took me 10 mins(i'm on a 1.500$ rig). I really think if there's gonna be a technological push in terms of render times, perhaps different algo, things might change for the better and they can just brute-force amount of content by pictures.
2. The vision of the project. I mean, even big studios like Naughty Dog or BioWare sometimes doesn't know what meachanics will work, what kind of gameplay features will make it to release version and stuff, obviously its not the case here, because these guys making VNs and sometimes sandboxes, when big guys tackling 3D physx problems. Yet, so far it's looks to me that Dr Sin doesn't really have a vision what he wants Midnight Paradise to be. VN? Well, not anymore. SandBox? Man, sandbox is exhausting for the player. Something in between? Wonder what that would be.

Besides that, there's complete amateurs who just should spend few months working on their project and tweaking their renders and mechanics and story. Those guys who you've mentioned is also a black plague. And in between them are the guys who just want to spend their money on something meaningful and worthy. What a mess.

I just hope Lewdlab doesn't come out with a Christmas-themed update (by the way in 99% of cases they always suck), it would become a Troll worse than Gumdrop

I repeat, if the game had to go out last Sunday it means that it was almost ready, if there were development problems it would never have given a close date, in theory it should come out before Christmas

Maimlain is rewriting all the code, it will be slow for now, but the future releases will be easier and with less testing (for working of this he has postponed some mods that normally publish fast), so he is working hard and the only error this time is to have mistaken the time needed and not that are milking, I think thatb this time they won't say other but they will speak only when the game is ready.
I hope that at that time Lewdlab will also say that while maimlain was repairing the code he had the time to work for next release that will ready in less time or with more contents.
For me this release is a day one, I think that after that the other release will be faster, but only time will show if I am right.

The funny part is it seems like with every update so far they've had to delay it so that they could go back and fix things and that the next update would supposedly come out faster, yet here we are with yet another delay because they had to yet again go back and fix things. I'd like to think that this is just simply incompetence, but after DoD it's pretty clear they're not incompetent. Wonder what the issues are, hopefully for the patrons sake they're not trying to take advantage of their goodwill and support, but after so many times it starts to make you think... Well, at least it should.

Is that an easter-egg ? because she looks very similar like the aunt from Dreams of desire and I FUCKING LOVE HER :3
It could be her. Both games are from the same dev, and if I remember correctly they happen at the same time but in different cities (the city of MP is mentioned in the DoD spinoff, called Lost Memories), and the Aunt of DoD is an important businesswoman.

Xmas updates sound great if the game was far into development story wise but considering how the story in this game is still in it's early stages I just think it's a waste of time. 99% of the time these updates don't have content we care about - I'd rather see the plot in the main game progress than get a holiday update that's just filled with more teasing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
