On average maybe 1-2% of fans support a dev with money, and that's when they have an established record built over several years and multiple finished AVNs or more. Most have been burned before either by getting ghosted by the dev with the AVN left abandoned or in other ways like this shining example, so I'd say relatively few wasted their money and were probably new to AVNs and didn't know any better yet.
