I'm confused. I looked back a few hundred comments, and more than half are about 'crack'.

1. Isn't this a normal Renpy VN? Is this something new, that we all of a sudden require cracks for VNs? Please tell me this isn't so.
2. How would that even work? Renpy is just Python script, right?

you probably downloaded something else maybe since you don't use adblocker or did something very wrong like placing the "crack" at wrong place.

all z_activator does is to make sure ren'py scans the game images and allows it to show the extra images (which are in the crack's slides folder that are missing when game is not activated).

And let me add, z_activation.rpy being the only file that is somehow related as executable, the other files just images. Otherwise there was no harmful files into the archive.

indeed and people who don't understand what z_activator code does can simply copy it and paste it to ChatGPT and it will explain them what it does in detail.

A form of copy protection is nothing unusual in games. Many developers use different methods. First, their supporters have early access to the latest version, which often leads to these games being offered here at the same time.
Other developers hide content behind a paywall. Still others prevent game progress from being saved in the free version.

This game, and many others, comes in two different versions: the standard version, which anyone can play without restrictions, and an extra version reserved for paying members. To access the extra content, activation, i.e., a crack, is required.
Since I'm not a developer or modder, I can't explain any further details.
