Jack's father had been ill for months before finally succumbing to the illness. Things were always tense between his stepmom, Lacey, and her daughter, Anne, but it had gotten so much worse recently. They rarely got along, and both had been pressuring Jack to move out of the house. As far as they were concerned, the less they saw of him, the better.
Imagine their surprise at the reading of the will. Jack's father left him everything -- the house, the money, the business...it was all his now. Jack's father had been a very successful man, and neither Lacy or Anne had a job. They were used to being kept. Suddenly, they had nothing. Panic and desperation started to set in. What would they do now?
Seeing an opportunity, Jack offered them a deal. They could continue to live at the house and have nice things, but things were going to be different. He would expect certain benefits from them in exchange for his...generosity. The two were a little put off by the offer, but in the end, they accepted. Afterall, what choice did they have?
As Jack's eyes washed over the two, he relished the thought of a new day and his good fortune.
