I know exactly what you mean, i'm in a similar position, i was thinking about pillaging art from another game and crediting it, i wonder what people would think of that since it would be just a mod, the downside is that i could bring trouble to Thresh's door that way so i'm dubious.I'd personally love to make a mod for this game. I love to write. Only problem is that without art it'd feel lackluster to me personally XD
Using licensed media is not a problem, as long as you give proper credit. Unlike MGD itself, a mod is a fanmade piece you don't make any money out of, so Threshold won't get in trouble even if you used licensed assets. For example, back when she was a mod, Gren used music from Seiken Densetsu 3!I know exactly what you mean, i'm in a similar position, i was thinking about pillaging art from another game and crediting it, i wonder what people would think of that since it would be just a mod, the downside is that i could bring trouble to Thresh's door that way so i'm dubious.
Yeah, I want to know what people would consider stellar writing in both this game or any other game to help me out with inspiration for my own writing. For example I read CoC massage scene in the Bazaar, CoCXiana mod massage scene with Farmgirl, TiTS catgirl massage, and MGD Beachmod scylla massage for research purposes. I do wish for any and all opinions on what writing is considered good but I think the main one is to write believable characters if I'm understanding what's been written so far.Uhh... so if I understood that correctly you want an opinion on what parts of the game the players consider to be "stellar writing" to help you make a mod? I AM a big fan of the mods for this game and I have all the playable mods downloaded so I don't mind providing my own opinion.
The most important thing would probably be that it's not one specific part that is a good piece of literature, but rather the whole area or even the story itself is interconnected, always leaving you guessing about the next place you're gonna go. I've already drawn up countless scenarios in my head for the demon city and even the witch coven.
What I personally like most about this game is just how good the characters are fleshed out. They feel so real unlike most other femdom games where the woman just goes "haha step step"
Also, there's alot of variety in how to get the h-scenes. You can lose, you can win, you don't need to fight, you can take a walk, heck you could go to sleep.
It's a little difficult for me to really give any decent examples of quality writing that can be matched 1-1 with a medium like Monster Girl Dreams (largely since MGD is currently the best one I've actually found so far in its niche), but I think I can provide a few examples worth studying.
Since this game is text-based and thus reads/plays more like a highly interactive Visual Novel than anything else, I'd recommend looking in that direction for inspiration and getting a general idea on how to write "choice based" smut. Keep in mind however that VNs, as their name suggests, are a bit more like books. The big ones have hours of content for you to read, since they need time to establish a setting and characters and all that jazz. MGD's stuff tends to be more bite-sized and is given through player interaction, instead of being fed to you like in a typical story. The most text-heavy character is probably Kotone, and the overall design of the experience is vastly different from actually straight-up reading a book. It's more like a CYOA/Quest than anything else, to be perfectly honest; a type of interactive story where you read stuff, make choices, and read more stuff based on those choices.
So yeah. Quests. Look into those; you'll find them all over the place on different forums. When it comes to smut, I use Questionable Questing. When it comes to just wanting to read regular content, Spacebattles or Sufficient Velocity, though that isn't to say that there aren't plot-heavy porn quests on QQ.
However, that's still way more text in-between choices than most - if not all - characters in MGD. You'll honestly have to figure out what a good balance feels like on your own; how long you should write for in each section, how in-depth these interactions should be, how to set up and atmosphere... there's all kinds of fine work and quality control, which you can only really check once you show it to someone else/have enough skill to make good judgement calls on the matter. If you do end up making a mod, I'd be more than happy to write a review on it. Just tell me if you want me to be completely and utterly scathing or more light-hearted in tone, either way is fine with me.
To simplify; right off the top of my head (there's probably more you've got to take into consideration than this, keep that in mind), here are some things you've gotta look out for:

All this is written assuming that you want a big, expansive mod/character; someone that would have as much depth as... let's use Kotone, or maybe even Sofia, as a benchmark. It's pretty daunting, but please don't feel pressured to write something like that. The most important thing is to enjoy yourself in the process. If you aren't happy writing it, what makes you think the audience will be happy playing it? It's that kind of sentiment. So yeah, bottom line, just write what you enjoy!
i think the discord is the best place to talk about mods and stuffLooking forward to reading comments! If mod discussion isn't allowed here, I'll move to the Discord if it's allowed there later this week. I wouldn't want to step on toes.
Bro. This is AMAZING! I'd rate it a 20/10! I always did feel that MGD was lacking an actual queen/domme type girl. All the girls are wholesome at the end of the day, which isn't bad but I kinda wished there was at least one whom you could fully submit to. More servant than lover if you know what I mean. I'm looking forward to your work and take your time to make it the best it can beThank you all for the kinds words of support and the links, especially Valentin Cognito who roused me to really put forth some effort into figuring out how the heck Renpy works behind the scenes as well as how to make mods for this game. I understand fully that the bigger and larger scale the idea, the longer it will take, but I have a firm grasp of this idea I've had boiling around in my head for quite some time, a few months even. It'll probably take me that amount of time to finish her, but I really want to explore this idea and make it a reality especially seeing how good of a work someone like Kotone can be with enough time and effort and someone like Mari (who I hope and pray every day gets even more content) as a mod can be with just the writing and character alone. The art helps a lot sure (because hoo boy Mari is great), but I hope that at least for now my writing skills can paint a clear enough picture until I can get decent visuals to go along with it.
Anyway, here's my idea. I'll probably join the Discord some time this week once I get more personally settled in my real life for some more support

I second this; to be sure, add in a readme with the due credits, and a line like "Please contact me if you own this image and would like it removed".Using licensed media is not a problem, as long as you give proper credit.
Simple: write something, anything, and face the merciless Internet critics. Who knows, maybe a few can give you good feedback, tell you what's wrong/right. Or even, be enthusiastic and give you a hand with the modding itself, who knows?Yeah, I want to know what people would consider stellar writing
JORA BEST DRAGON GIRL!
The major bulk of the idea is in Spoilers tho loli think the discord is the best place to talk about mods and stuff
otherwise this thread gets filled with text walls
or at least put the modding post in spoilers...
Thank you! I appreciate it! I wouldn't rule out any wholesome moments with her or any other of MGD's elements. All of the current girls don't seem malicious so you can bet there's more to how she acts and her reasons for doing so. Although, make no mistake that she IS a total dom of a woman and I hope I can write her well to portray her as someone the character can wholeheartedly submit to.Bro. This is AMAZING! Typos are unfortunately far from rare! But Threshold is always careful to take reports into account and fix files accordingly. There seems to be a minor grammar-hiccup in Vilis Titfuck content. - (more you more you) - At the end of one text box.
This is intended. Sofia won't react to holy attacks if she's Restrained or Asleep.Another thing would be about Sofia (although I don't know if it was intended or not):
In all of her fights up to fight 3 phase 2, you are able restrain (Magical Binding/Pin) and Holy Headpat/Demon Layer her into submission, - without facing any repercussions. No one-shot after headpatting her once, no warnings after attacking her with Demon Layer, nothing. - (As long as she is restrained, that is. After breaking free it's all back to normal.)
Ah, looks like the flag that sets Elly's convo is a bit premature, then. Threshold will look into that and might move it to make more sense.Yet another one would be about the Elly/Venefica mission/quest:
As of V23.4 you are able to visit Elly at night and help her out, - given you have enough affection with her.
Now, I am not sure if it is strictly after gaining access to her that triggers it (sadly I noticed it too late, and had no save ready to make sure), but after accepting the initial Mushroom Investigation and meeting Elly in the forest, I decided to go back to town and leave Veneficas content for later. - I never met her. Yet, Elly, the next time I visit her at night, will ask me what I think about her.
Other male adventurers are a thing for sure, but Threshold doesn't intend to have any featured as anything else than background characters. Modders have formulated ideas in that regard, but so far, Dean (from Waifupocalypse) is the only existing male character out of the entire existing MGD content....Although... does anyone of you have any information regarding other male Characters/Adventurers? - Not the sexual kind. Just someone our hero can meet along the way, be it a fellow adventurer or a retired older one with a (monster?) family.
Might just be a really sweet and versatile thing to add.
Speaking of Dean, what does he do exactly? Just give you skills? He talked about a possible new quest which got me excited and then nothing happenedThat sounds like quite the ambitious project, Anarchistic! Far be it from me to discourage you from putting your ideas into practice, but as far as modding is concerned, I'd recommend starting small. Like, instead of writing Dola's content all at once, do something short first, like a standalone scene, and see if you're comfortable with that. Then proceed step by step, and ultimately, you'll have a mod! What I mean is don't try to build big castles in the sky right off the bat. I know that some modders have been discouraged or thwarted by overly ambitious projects, so... take it slow! Combat in particular can be a tough beast, notably if you want to include unique or in-depth combat mechanics.

Featuring helpful, fun, or wholesome content with male adventurers would certainly be welcome, though!
Glad you've been enjoying the game! It's a goodun' indeed.
Noted. And don't worry, I didn't plan to write the entire mod at once. I was actually considering doing her entire mod in parts. The first part would be what i told you thus far. Story wise, it would make sense to do it in parts, but as to why I won't say :3That sounds like quite the ambitious project, Anarchistic! This should be "they're not 100% applicable," sorry if there's any confusion doomgal !They're 100% applicable to MGD, but they're definitely good enough to be worth studying on their own, if only to get ideas for your own writing.
That is a very pleasant surprise!some new Jora content
