In addition to KC being a better artist than all the others involved in the original MGQ 10 years ago, his designs mostly boil down to "hot girl with added monster/inhuman traits", whereas in MGQ a major chunk of the girls range from "nope" to "HELL NO!" It's understandable for a game about monster girls to be varied in where the designs fall on the monster-to-girl ratio, but the problem is that, especially near the end, the girls transcended from "monster" to straight-up unsightly abominations that made the game incredibly unfappable.

For MGE, even my most disliked designs boil down to their appeals just not being my thing, rather then their designs being inherently repulsive.


I'd say it's more than just that. MGE came first, and he was probably delighted to work on Quest since it drew clear inspiration from his work, but the latter's popularity kinda cemented the idea among the fandom that all monster-girl content needs to be exclusively femdom with healthy servings of snuff and cruelty. Which, judging by this demo, is the complete opposite of what KC's actual kinks are. So if he hoped Quest would get more people into monster girls he got his wish, but it was definitely a monkey paw sort of situation. Just speculation, but it would definitely help explain why he's so defensive and strict about his setting.

Personally I'm glad he knows exactly what he wants from monster girls because this game strikes the exact niche I've been wanting from the subculture for basically ever. The girls are extremely aggressive, but not cruel. Naturally dominant, but they'll let you take the reins without complaint and in some cases even encourage you to do so. Lovey-dovey, sweet, and caring to the max, which makes the contrast to them being uber lewd and utterly cock-crazed even hotter. It's great, and ironically despite MGE being one of the earliest pieces of monster girl content it's a breath of fresh air from the tired "PATHETIC MALE, HOW SHAMEFUL YOU ARE TO FEEL GOOD WHILE I'M RAPING YOU" routine that's been done countless times in the last 10+ years.

Yeah, KC has said from the beginning that he never liked the "grave outcomes" in these sorts of stories, and the main point of MGE was to create a setting where it could be lovey dovey without that. This shows itself in literally everything he himself made, but in the early years he did some art for Doujin works with a different worldview. This has definitely shifted, with KC openly saying on twitter he cannot bear such stories anymore as they are too tragic:

Yeah they're all dumbasses, and it's why KC got fed up and came out with those guidelines saying you're flat-out not allowed to make MGE fan material that doesn't line up with the right fetishes. They quite literally ruined it for everyone, because while KC's kinks are pretty goated, the guidelines disallow basically ANY variance from the source material, which sucks because while I do like what he's come up with I think it does get a little too samey at times for fan material to stay interesting.

People read too much into it (or most likely, too little). Anything can seem horrific if you're an idiot and intentionally read too much into it. KC's made it clear the setting is supposed to be an ideal sex fantasy, and that's all it is. Sure there are some things in the setting that look bad if you really dissect them, but if they were 100% fluff it would be utterly boring, and all the potential unfortunate outcomes that could arise simply WON'T, because it's a happy sex fantasy.

For example, monster girls only giving birth to other monster girls COULD potentially lead to the extinction of the human race... but it won't, because that would suck and be unhappy. It's just part of the world-building, because if you're in a fantasy where the appeal is that it's populated by monster girls, why WOULDN'T you want any of your potential kids to be more of those same monster girls instead of a boring human boy? That way you're also guaranteed to get to raise a cute monster girl daughter to raise and you know, also opens up the route for incest on top of your cute wife. That just makes it even better.
