I've very much considered a few times, but I'm too stubborn for my own good sometimes. I have gotten a bit less active on the game thread, but stick around for bugs, questions, and the occasional ribbing.

There's not really much I could do about the jargon, I suppose it's just a side effect of making a game around such a specific topic.
How are your lungs doing? Hope you're feeling better.

Definitely better with Albuterol and getting back into some slightly more intense exercise. Have a day off tomorrow, so will probably be setting up an appointment with a pulmonologist to see if I can get something consistent worked out.

Thanks for asking.

IMO nothing wrong using football terms in a game based on the sport. If people complain then wtf are you playing an American football based story?
I think there are just a lot of non-Americans on the site who get upset about having to learn something new. If it was their version of football instead, they wouldn't think twice about all the terms being tossed out because they'd know them already.

And yeah, I think MissFortune has done the best he can... use the lingo (because it would be used, especially by people who live and breathe the sport like college athletes and commentators) but provide a glossary so people who don't know the vocabulary aren't lost.

In my opinion, picking up on some new terms is a hell of a lot better than having to try to decipher machine-translated english, so the game already starts off way ahead.

on other hand Americans are known for their profound love to learn new things and to become familiar with new cultures and stuff. yeah, sound about right :KEK:

that being said, as a non-american and a person who in the slightest isnt interested in "american football", i have absolutely no problems with the game setup, sports terminology used or frequency and type of sports sequences in the game.
imo one of the best AVNs around and i can only wish all the best to the dev and his project.
may it reach (for most AVNs) mythical "completed" status one day!

Hey, I'll be the first to admit that if this was a sport Americans knew nothing about, some or many of them would be losing their shit instead! But it is American football, so that was irrelevant to my point.

Ya, I love college football so none of the terminology is new to me, but I hope people can try to learn it a bit if they aren't familiar with it - it's a great sport and sets the stage for a very enjoyable narrative.

Its not about "getting upset" or something which makes you actively think "damn this avn is bad because of it", its more like a passive effect of getting slowly more and more bored and less interested. I caught myself reading some stuff and realising afterwards that i dont really remembered anything because my mind shut down which is unusual for me in (good) avns.

and of course this would be entirely different if it would be about something which interrest me like normal football, i would love that and im sure lots of other people would too.

But us-americans would probably like it less and thats considering you have some kind of relevant football/soccer. American football is just an alien sport to me and a lot of people worldwide.

And of course its possible to read all the explanations and figure it out, its just a sport after all and not rocket sciene but why if you really dont care about the sport? I dunno which sports you guys cant be assed to care about but would you read into the details of i dunno cricket, horse racing, whatever in a avn like that? Or honestly rather just skip these parts partially?

You can swap this with any kind of job which you arent at all interested in and a avn revolving a lot about specifics about this job.

This is just my perspective, im not blaming the dev for anything and still enjoy the avn and consider it good even if quite some boring parts (for me) are included

Im just saying maybe its smarter to chose a less niche sport if you do this but otherwise there are probably enough us customers anyway and people who arent too bored about the american football parts.

I think its kinda hard for us citizens to really understand how far away american football in this case (but you can swap it with most other sports other than maybe basketball but even than) is to other people.

I dont know the players, i dont know the teams and i dont even know the rules. I can imagine how its a very immersive experience for people who are into the sport but for everyone else its lots of useless details which you kinda skip and are forgotten at the next page already.

And i still like some parts about it like the games itself when they happen in the avn or even like the quarterback banter but a lot of specific details can kinda wither you out and take the fun out of a otherwise fun avn.

just my 2 cents, this isnt really meant as a negativ critic and more like to put things in perspective. Its obviously okay to make a avn with a niche-theme but yeah i wouldnt be too surprised if some people get bored about too much details/specifics.

Well I don't overall disagree with your sentiment or anything, however if someone isn't interested in American football and also finds themselves getting bored playing, it might just not be for them. I for one am not a fan of football, yet I've thoroughly enjoyed the game and haven't found myself getting bored at all, despite that.

Yeah i didnt meant to say that the avn overall is boring - i like it a lot and am a fan of sports avns in general - its just a lot of specific details at some points which can feel overwhelming/boring if there is a lack of interest.

Should have a progress report in the next couple days. But I did want to give some updates after the last post on my health. Firstly, though, thanks for all the kind words and wishes in the last post (along with those of you who sent messages. If I haven't gotten back to you yet, I will in a bit.)

Game update:

Just for the quick and dirty update of Episode 4, we've got 527 renders prepped and 13 animations (10 of which are NSFW).

Health Update:

As for my health. I'm pretty much working as usual on the game again. Between albuterol and more intense exercise, I'm doing quite a bit better. Still have the occasional snag, but for the most part, I'm getting those full breaths again. Still not sure why is started back up again, but I assume the wind and pollen increase had a bit to do with it. I'm still going to a pulmonologist soon, so hopefully more answers will come with that - and hopefully a more controllled solution as I've read albuterol isn't good to take consistently. Issue is the lack of insurance as I missed the open enrollment, and short-term won't cover due to pre-existing conditions. So, everything's basically out of pocket until the end of the year. GoodRx should make it a bit less painful, but hopefully a long-term prescription will limit the number of visits.

Development Update(?):

I just bought a second PC. This will speed up development significantly. It allows me to both render while I'm working on other renders with my main system and keep rendering overnight while not feeling like I'm in a sauna in my room. It did put a pretty nice dent into my pocketbook, but I feel like it'll pay itself off soon.

That being said, a little extra support either here or Steam wouldn't go unappreciated. Might have a sale coming up soon, so keep an eye out for that if you're interested!

That should be about it for now. Thanks again for all the comments. As mentioned, I should have a more thorough progress report sooner than later.
