I think there are just a lot of non-Americans on the site who get upset about having to learn something new. If it was their version of football instead, they wouldn't think twice about all the terms being tossed out because they'd know them already.
And yeah, I think MissFortune has done the best he can... use the lingo (because it would be used, especially by people who live and breathe the sport like college athletes and commentators) but provide a glossary so people who don't know the vocabulary aren't lost.
In my opinion, picking up on some new terms is a hell of a lot better than having to try to decipher machine-translated english, so the game already starts off way ahead.
Its not about "getting upset" or something which makes you actively think "damn this avn is bad because of it", its more like a passive effect of getting slowly more and more bored and less interested. I caught myself reading some stuff and realising afterwards that i dont really remembered anything because my mind shut down which is unusual for me in (good) avns.
and of course this would be entirely different if it would be about something which interrest me like normal football, i would love that and im sure lots of other people would too.
But us-americans would probably like it less and thats considering you have some kind of relevant football/soccer. American football is just an alien sport to me and a lot of people worldwide.
And of course its possible to read all the explanations and figure it out, its just a sport after all and not rocket sciene but why if you really dont care about the sport? I dunno which sports you guys cant be assed to care about but would you read into the details of i dunno cricket, horse racing, whatever in a avn like that? Or honestly rather just skip these parts partially?
You can swap this with any kind of job which you arent at all interested in and a avn revolving a lot about specifics about this job.
This is just my perspective, im not blaming the dev for anything and still enjoy the avn and consider it good even if quite some boring parts (for me) are included
Im just saying maybe its smarter to chose a less niche sport if you do this but otherwise there are probably enough us customers anyway and people who arent too bored about the american football parts.
I think its kinda hard for us citizens to really understand how far away american football in this case (but you can swap it with most other sports other than maybe basketball but even than) is to other people.
I dont know the players, i dont know the teams and i dont even know the rules. I can imagine how its a very immersive experience for people who are into the sport but for everyone else its lots of useless details which you kinda skip and are forgotten at the next page already.
And i still like some parts about it like the games itself when they happen in the avn or even like the quarterback banter but a lot of specific details can kinda wither you out and take the fun out of a otherwise fun avn.
just my 2 cents, this isnt really meant as a negativ critic and more like to put things in perspective. Its obviously okay to make a avn with a niche-theme but yeah i wouldnt be too surprised if some people get bored about too much details/specifics.
