Maybe not my cup of tea, but then again I dropped become a rockstar and seven realms cause the story just wasn't for me I guess. Did finish melody though.
What i meant by quality is not just them being technically correct but having the quality that draws me in with its unique characteristics, be it distinct artistic style or just being impressive graphically like city of broken dreams, summer's gone. And something like summer heat is a big standout but then of course it takes them forever to release updates and the wait is neigh eternal to get to the good parts.
Atleast this game is not a mess that grandma's house is, I know that that game does get to sex parts quickly and the updates are fast but after playing it once, and while it got its job done, I didn't feel like coming back. Quantity over quality is the definition there, nothing memorable or impressive. I thought that this game was gonna be the same but with better looking characters and more semblance of the plot. But I guess that this is a story with porn. For me the story is on the bit too long and tedious to get through side, and personally the character's models and renders don't blow me away enough to keep on playing. But this of no fault of the small time dev. It would take a team and bigger effort to create something like that. I would and did purchase games like that though on steam. being a dik, treasure of nadia, city of broken dreams, fresh women. But it takes alot to create those games.
First and foremost, while mentioning and talking about other AVNs is forbidden by the forum rules, for the purpose of illustration I'll go along with it. Now...
What you mean by quality, is quite well known, and if you stick to the first 5 or 6 updates of My Dorm, it is indeed quite noticeable. It was a learning period, one that was inevitable. First was the posing that started to become more dynamic. the animations that slowly increased in quality and quantity, the lighting that took quite a long time to get controlled, and the renderings themselves that have been getting better.
Remember always the MAIN difference to those teams you mentioned is that this is a project with only one person. Yes, text post-production involves more people, but the brunt of the work, especially the creative part, is done only by one person.
You also have to have in mind that this isn't a million dollars budget game unlike several that you mentioned.
There's also, the problem that you are very focused on measuring what can't be measured, the ethereal concept of "Interest". I really, really, like this story. I would still defend it's merits even if the Dev hadn't improved from the first renders until now. Because the graphics part goes away VERY fast if you do involve yourself in the story, as I, and many others here, have.
So, your strenuous comparison of "dicks" between this game and some very BIG titles, is OK, but it's a bit r/whooosh. You are comparing gall stones to oranges (and not even on it's merits as projectiles), not even in the same category, much less the same type. All the while forgetting the main ingredient on all this, a "Story". This one is so good, that I would still follow it if the Dev decided to draw it on MS Paint by hand with a ball mouse that hadn't been cleaned in 10 years.
I know you can't understand. I know that you are still in the "bright lights" fascination phase. Go on, give it time. You'll grow, and your tastes will evolve.
Peace
