In my time, remember I'm old as dust, Latin was mandatory in 2nd grade High School (15y.o.) for everyone. Then you wouldn't see Latin for the rest of your education if you chose the STEM or the Socio-economic paths. You only see it again in the Humanistic (getting ready for degrees in History, Philosophy, etc.) and Social paths (for degrees in Law, Medicine, etc., and for people allergic to maths).Almost more likely to mix up Mexican names for South American names; but yea, unless you're into linguistics -- or dead languages in particular -- most likely not on her curriculum.
I said "my time". Just as a clarification, Latin was already a dead language then
