I've seen the messages from them to certain devs here. Including this one, if you search the thread you'll probably find his posts of the messages.I've heard of cases where apparently Patreon does have their eyes on this site as well, not sure how true they are though.
If Patreon gets direct traffic from a site like this one, they think they have the right to check what's done by the dev here. They suspended my account for more than a week because of that until I removed the "official" patch and it became unofficial and published by a player. I took the chance to also change my name.Well I don't understand how patreon can detect an official patch here in f95
It's not Patreon that ruins the incest games. It's laziness when writing the game because most devs assume wrongly that no one will play the game without the patch. I thought that, but experience taught me that the non-incest players are a bigger percentage than I thought initially. And I'm talking about players who have access to the patch and know how to install it. I'm conducting a survey right now on my Discord and the provisional results say 20% of players play without the patch. The sample is still small (125 votes)patreon ruin a lot of incest games, for example "You're landlady is crying every night, screaming your name, you don't have an idea how painful it is for her when she had no choice but to leave you in your landlord's care" guess what game is this ?but see you how stupid the the context is and then patch for that game seems like a MOD or made by someone just to rename the landlord and landlady and the dev will claim that the patch isn't made by themYou don't have permission to view the spoiler content. That would be true if you was the developer (nudge wink), you are just the I.T guy who happens to also maintain the computers as well as the writing and images (nudge wink). If you add to that the players who don't even know there is a patch, the proportion will be way higher.
When you put it like that it reminded me of Ratchet & Clank 3 main villain Dr.Nefarious when he glitched the soap opera radio are played and below are three of the whole dialogue, rearranged to make it a bit spicy.patreon ruin a lot of incest games, for example "You're landlady is crying every night, screaming your name, you don't have an idea how painful it is for her when she had no choice but to leave you in your landlord's care" guess what game is this ?but see you how stupid the the context is and then patch for that game seems like a MOD or made by someone just to rename the landlord and landlady and the dev will claim that the patch isn't made by themYou don't have permission to view the spoiler content. 1- This isn't aimed at you Trope, I'm just using your words to say a few things about it.It's not Patreon that ruins the incest games. It's laziness
I know that was not aimed at me.1- This isn't aimed at you Trope, I'm just using your words to say a few things about it.
2- The "problem" with incest is that it is based of taboos that simply aren't as Universal as those that have them think them to be. What do I mean? I mean that there are many places around the world untouched by the extremes of Puritanism that plagues other places. Places, where people have learned that "Shit happens" and sometimes feelings get mixed up, or, they realize that there really isn't anything that bad and while there are better options, it isn't the end of the world.
3- Accepting the Human condition and that we all are fallible and sometimes feel and do things that we probably shouldn't (I'll get to the why) is a measure of maturity, not only personal, but also as a culture. When a culture is immersed in Puritanism, it basically aims to deny the Human part, attempting to instill an ideal based on a rather punishing version of what some type of Divinity would want. In this they commit a violence that should appall them, but somehow doesn't.
4- The why we do what we maybe shouldn't, also why we maybe shouldn't, it is part of the consequences, rather than the actions. I don't only mean the potential for dangerous pregnancies. I mean also the serious imbalances in some of those relationships. The serious potential for abuse and for behaviors with borderline abuse. Yes, some of those relationships are consensual, informed and innocuous (mostly). There's always the potential for serious problems with public recognition and acceptance that can cause tensions that can destroy even the stronger bonds.
5- The Taboo, being a double faced situation, that acts as a deterrent but also as an attraction, as the proverbial Forbidden Fruit, we become easy prey. If at some level we feel that it is something that we should steer away from, and we do, in other levels we have this lingering nagging that tells us, "What If". I am sure that the vast vast majority manages to keep it as a "Intrusive Thought" and never act on it, or even let's it go any further than that. That there's a minority that are unable to resist the temptation or are placed in situations where the resistance stops making sense, I, personally, can't truly condemn. Unless, it is an abuse based thing. That doesn't fit in this scenario.
So... Is there really a Need to specify relationships in these or that terms, to either look for the Taboo or escape it? I don't think there is. The "fake" drama of woulda/shoulda/coulda, of an indecision caused by a Taboo that could simply not even exist, all that is simply put, lazy writing. Oh, but I like the tensions caused by people trying to deal with the temptations of the Taboo... sure... but does it have to be ALWAYS the same?
To be clear, I like the extra zest of a Taboo story, but, seriously, I also like when it is simply accepted as natural and drama-free.
The fact that there's a rather strong armed player that wants to force us all into a Puritiranical view and has the power to enforce it is NOT ideal. Sometimes I feel like donning my best Conspiracy Theorist garb and posit that they really want to create even more attraction for the Taboo by making it even more Forbidden. I dunno...

At the risk of affecting (possibly adversely) some of our community's opinion of me, I'll come out of the closet (so to speak)...I know that was not aimed at me.
And I agree with the idea that Patreon (or PayPal, or whoever) shouldn't have an anti-incest policy, but my take on it is that no one forces me to do business with Patreon. It's me who wants to do it (for my benefit) so I should give the Patreon players a complete product when they download it (and they can look for an "unofficial" patch if they want). And that means the story should be coherent. No Landlady/Roommate/Tenant shit. That's what I meant by laziness.
Of the 20% of players that answered they play unpatched on the poll on Discord, I talked to some of them in the past about why they play without the patch. There are basically three answers (not ordered in any way):
a.- They dislike incest.
b.- They didn't know there was a patch because they started the game without it and everything made sense.
c.- They don't care for (nor like/dislike) incest, so patching the game is an unnecessary extra step because the unpatched version is as good as the patched one could be (according to them).
A and C are personal tastes of the players, so I don't want or can do anything about it.
But B is important (for me). It means the unpatched version is seen as complete, without a need for a patch.
When I supported devs and downloaded their games when it came to my tier and I had to wait for a mod to play the incest (my preferred) version I felt cheated. That's why the "unofficial patch" (wink-wink-nudge-nudge) is universal. Whoever downloaded it once can apply it to newer versions. No need to wait for a third party to do it for every update.
I think that's QoL for players. Doing it in other ways is lazy and not taking into account the players who answered A. B players will know there is something missing, while C players will know there is another version that made more sense.
I play a version with patch. I installed it a long time ago because I thought that the story would be a little different (better?). Then only out of habit. I doesn't depreciate anyone. For any reason. Hair colour, skin color or kinship. I don't feel it as a taboo. Especially since it's fiction. The story is good in itself and it doesn't matter how I call someone.I know that was not aimed at me.

Quick comment on this: while some other games have issues with these types of patches, this typically occurs when the patch itself replaces entire code scripts and stuff like that.I play without the patch because I have seen too many games ruined (maybe only temporarily) by the extra coding required. Errors creep in when there is a correction, then a correction of the correction is required etc. My mind is capable of still making the connection to Martha just fine, thank you very much. I don't need any patch and avoid much consternation.
As an Android user, who rarely gets a say in whether I'm on the patched version or not... this is so fucking annoying. The story doesn't make sense with the patch.
Lol we don't get many non patched portsAs an Android user, who rarely gets a say in whether I'm on the patched version or not... this is so fucking annoying.
Come on, I love it when I can play the great-great-landlady's guardian's daughter's neighbor-in-law.And that means the story should be coherent. No Landlady/Roommate/Tenant shit. That's what I meant by laziness.

Yes and no. The patch state isn't saved.Since the patch is the current topic, I have a question. Can saves exist concurrently for both clone and family runs? I've tried this with other patched games and it made a mess of saves.
Thanks!
