Mark isn't the kind of guy who want sex without feeling and what is the point to risk all his established relationships for a random girl, especially with Amanda and Eva that take their job of monitoring him (for security reasons) very seriously?
You know, if I am the dude I'd be terrified of losing a testicle or two after doing something like that. Even more so, not knowing what kind of weapon (proper or improper) would they chose to use on me.

With two bombshells like that both available and with a incredibly demanding job to do as CEO of a billion-dollar company, while planning the future of your big family from thousands of miles away, who has the time or inclination to flirt with a stranger?

Enjoy the tropical seaside interlude on the white beaches of Aruba with Amanda and Eva; these unique experiences will never be repeated.
I guess I don't see Amanda, Eva, or the harem as "owning" the MC, at least not my MC. As for feelings... sure, but random encounters don't always require that. The girls so far have actually encouraged him to bring in new blood to the harem/family, so following his lead seems to be their schtick. If you feel your MC is beholden to them and their wants for him, more power to you. I just don't quite think that's the way he was written. It's always been up to him who comes on board so far, and who doesn't.

As an aside, I'm definitely *not* pushing for a 1-off or temporary fling. Just said I wouldn't mind it. MY MC has no compunctions about vetting new blood, even if it doesn't turn into anything. Ultimately it's up to Trope though, and I think he has a good grasp on where it's all going. I'll just chime in with thoughts and enjoy the ride.

Interesting. I get more of a "get to know the girl first" vibe from the MC than a "Always willing to lend a third leg if asked and interested" vibe from him. But as you say, we all project to some extent. That's why most of us play.
It's exactly the same thing that happens with books. You absorb films passively, but you actively experience books. It's the same here. And that's why sometimes we don't like certain beautiful stories. Because we read them by putting ourselves into them. So it can happen that we start reading a story at the wrong time. Perhaps at that moment in our lives, with the mood we are in at that time, that story does not fit with us. But it is not the story's fault, it is because of how we feel at that particular time in our lives. Obviously, I am talking about stories that are worth reading.

Yup, despite reading the same story, all our MCs are going to be "different" due to our projection on them. But that can also help Trope to be creative when reading our opinions - he gets to see how we interpret the MC from our perspective instead of his. And sometimes that may lead him to be more creative, or more risky, or to add in things he may not have considered before. It's all good. (y)

I agree with all of you. Every MC is different because we only see some of his choices (enough to shape our vision of him), sentences, and thoughts (sometimes influenced by the choices we took for him).
Add to it that our own motivations and what is more important to us weigh those choices in a different way for every player, and you have 100,000 different MCs for 100,000 different players.
For some players, he is a reckless guy who fucks (and maybe impregnates) everything that moves. And every MC of those players will be different among them.
For other players, he is a caring guy who only has sex with the people he loves (even if he fucks and impregnates everything that moves).
For yet other players, he is picky and only makes love to a small group of women among the ones he cares for (maybe only one per playthrough) because he finds them more attractive than others.
And so on.

All those players would be right. And all of them would be wrong if their MC were transplanted to another player's playthrough.
That's why all players have thought, "That guy is an idiot" at some points in the game. Because he doesn't react how they would think their "customized" MC would react.
For some of them, it was during Jack's beating ("My MC would have crushed that guy's skull"). For others, it was during Emma's maid scene ("My MC would have fucked her brains out"). And yet for others, it was during Kiara's denial phase ("My MC would have caught all the hints without Betty's help").
We can recall a lot of moments where the MC didn't behave as "our mental image" of the MC would have behaved (yes, even "my" MC wouldn't behave like the MC sometimes). Or we would be surprised by how (and mostly why) other MCs behave.

The latest example, I think, is Debbie's pregnancy. Some players would impregnate her without giving a second thought to it. Others would hesitate, thinking, "What does Trop mean when he says in the walkthrough, 'It won't affect her swimming career too much'?". Others won't impregnate her because they don't like pregnancies, or because the MC is so ugly that they don't want his genetic pool to continue in existence, or because they don't use the walkthrough and think it would end the girl's career, or... 100,000 different motivations. There are even players who didn't get the option because they rejected Debbie, because their MC doesn't like her.

As a writer, it's great to see those differences in how players see the characters that we (yes, 'we', you and me) have built. That means that the (main) characters are not flat or unidimensional. They can be idiots sometimes (I would bet at least 30% of the players are hating Kate right now because of her behaviour after the no-date). Sometimes, they don't behave like we (the players) would behave or as we think the characters should behave. But if something like 'Would the MC fuck a random girl at a bar in Aruba?' arises, that means they feel alive.

Thanks! Seeing Debbie's growth as a character is a great thing for me as a writer. Looking back at the girl who arrived at the airport 21 updates ago and looking at the more mature girl she's now is amazing.

I don't think it's an "illusion of choice". You choose the girls you want to impregnate (and, in some cases, it will have consequences), so there isn't an "illusion" here.
Praise for the writing of this game is something I have in abundance. The little quirks and comedy combined with genuine character moments is why I enjoy playing this game.

To correct a minor misunderstanding (due to my lack of clarity) when I say it's an "illusion of choice" with regards to the impregnation; I'm speaking more of the fact that the impact of those choices still feel a bit arbitrary at this stage. To be fair to you, this game is a behemoth of storytelling so it's quite possible that my feelings are due to my narrative choices not yielding expected outcomes (which is a "me" problem). It's equally possible that you've yet to address the consequences or do not plan to have any of significance. Which is understandable given the scale of this project and the generally high quality of writing.

At this stage, our choices amount to a cat, a flask of poison, and a radioactive source placed in a sealed box. The impact of choice is essentially unknown until you collapse superposition by opening the box or in this case updating the game. (yes, I realize this comparison is esoteric, but I found it too apt to not include.)

As for the specs I should be good unless something changes or the PC dies on me. Thanks for the transparency, thanks for the update and thank you for taking the time to respond.

Like in DnD, it is what my character would do vs it is what i think my character would do.

that aside when i look back i realize we have come from a long way and coincidentally i watch YouTube video of a skit where 2 character arguing where person A said if the MC has no character development then that show is trash.

Then i read the comment made by Entropic_Alloy

To answer the argument. A flat MC in a show should ideally change the world around them. They don't need to progress as their point is to be a standard to which the other characters or the setting/world itself changes. There is room for stories with different types of MCs. If not, then storytelling would be too predictable and boring.
End of Quote

It got me curious on what if the developer/writer intentionally added flat character for the story then what would be the hurdles to write such story for it?

I can't explain much why it got me thinking about it so much.

There will be long-term consequences for some choices, while others will have no significant impact.
Sam's epilogue story won't change regardless of what type of bush the player chooses.
Debbie or Megan's epilogue stories will change (how much is to be seen) depending on their pregnancies.
Kate's epilogue story will be slightly different depending on whether you choose to get her slim shape or keep her current shape.
The Dorm company's epilogue story will be different depending on whether the MC has children or not.

I know I'm talking about epilogue stories only, but it's where every past choice's consequences will be seen. The MC hasn't been at home for a month yet, so seeing the impact of some choices is difficult.

I never (consciously) thought about having a flat character and what the impact on the story would be. It's thought fodder.
I guess a short timeline (days/weeks) story would fare better with it than a story that develops through months or years, since no one would expect a big change in the characters.

There is yet another aspect of this that (to my knowledge) hasn't been touched on, yet; namely, that the player knows things about the MyDorm-verse that the MC doesn't know (mostly connected to certain things that happen from the other characters' perspectives), and the MC knows things about the MyDorm-verse that the player doesn't know (mostly things that Trope knows, from the MC's perpective, that haven't been revealed yet, or that are backstory or peripheral things that provide nuance to the game). And, this will vary to some extent from player to player.

I agree. In those cases, what has more impact on the MC's behaviour is the knowledge of the background stories (even with his bad memory, like not remembering who Scarlett was, at least by name). What we see from other characters' perspectives and he doesn't know, can't have an impact on his choices, but it has consequences for the other characters' storylines, and the MC will only see those consequences (and someone will explain to him how it happened).
But it changes the player's perspective. Without Kate-Norah scenes, we couldn't know for sure that Kate is falling in love with him. We could think she's angry for other reasons. Since we know, the MC not taking any action looks like nonsense to us because, to us, it's obvious. He's starting to suspect things, but he isn't 100% sure (that's why he wanted to talk to Norah or Kim).

There are few sex scenes that I reread. One is the one with Megan when they talk about the meeting with Martha and the revelation between them. However, once that dialogue is over, I either stop the replay or skip to the conclusion when they talk about their son and how to deal with him.

If you didn't read the text in the update's sex scenes, you missed a LOT of LI progress with multiple women, especially Maddie.

It might be common in some AVNs to make sex text a bunch of "ooooh's" and "aaaahh's", but I find Trope does that less and less now. If you skip reading the scenes, you're skipping essential parts of the story too. That may be why you only vaguely remember them. Maddie's scene has stuck in my mind permanently now *because* of the writing and it's overall quality.

Very nice update as usual.
Yes the rabbit died I killed it (loved that whole scene). Maddie's was superbly done loved the love.
Only thing is

I NEED MORE SCARLETT AND ERIKA soon the withdraws are real and getting worse
Thanks!
Scarlett was not so long ago (0.23), but Erika's time is getting near with a great scene planned.

I find the sex scenes where the story doesn't advance boring. As Jaga said below, the scenes with:
*"Ohh!"
*Sentence
*"Ahh!"
*Repeat
*Cum
Become old soon.
After writing over 70 sex scenes, they even become boring to write (and I tried to avoid that kind of scene for most of the game), so in scenes like Maddie's, I try to advance the story forward, inserting story scenes between lewd moments. I think it worked fine in that instance (and others, like the Megan one you named).

If you didn't read the text in the update's sex scenes, you missed a LOT of LI progress with multiple women, especially Maddie.

I didn't have any idea about how to write a lewd scene when I started doing My Dorm. It was something I never did previously, and it required a learning process. The first lewd scenes' dialogue (with some exceptions, like Norah's shower) was very basic, trying to reproduce, with my own style, what I had played in other AVNs. It didn't work for me. Besides boring, it also felt weird.
So, I started to change how sex text was written. The current structure, with 2-3 descriptive lines interspersed with 2-3 dialogue lines, works fine with me. It allows me to add the "Ohh's" and "Ahh's" (*Gasps* and *Moans* in my case), but also convey what the characters (mostly the MC) are feeling (physical and mentally).

Maddie's scene structure (and 12 hours in her apartment) allowed for the most important parts (cooking, having dinner, post-it, watching TV, fart) to change the pace of the scene, so it ends up not being only a lewd scene, but a story scene with lewd interludes. I would love to have the chance to write every lewd scene like that, but it would end up becoming old and predictable.
