I know filament printers have gotten better, but wouldn't resin be better for something like this?AmazonBasics red PLA filament

My first job was DOS 3, Vax/VMS and whatever OS comes on a PDP-11/70. We didn't have any machines running it, but I learned a LOT from a DOS 1.0 manual that was still kicking around my office - stuff that they stopped putting in the documentation for non-devs so as not to frighten them away. Are you sure it is not because you use to work on DOS 3.0 which feels like Ancient times![]()
Well... as expected, the hair is a complete disaster. It almost caused some failures for the face or the whole head, but in the end the print finished without failing. But as the hair is very brittle, it started to break down as soon as I removed the support.I for one would be interested in the Photo Results if you do post a Photo just to see how it would look like.![]()
Resin would certainly provide a better quality. However, very few resin printers would be able to print a 27 cm model. Most resin printers cannot even fit an object that is half that size. Also, PLA is a bit easier to paint. And resin is more expensive.I know filament printers have gotten better, but wouldn't resin be better for something like this?
in the model world gluing things together isn't unheard of, right? I'd imagine you could glue them together from multiple chunks, the paint is another issue entirely though.Well... as expected, the hair is a complete disaster. So here are two photos of Erika's figurine. The model was printed standing up (with supports) but I laid it down for the photo.

You can see that the hair is a mess: some parts broke down and fell off. There is also a problem with the right elbow. I guess that the supports moved a bit during printing, which caused a part of the elbow to be printed incorrectly. This would probably not happen again if I would reprint it.
Overall the results are not too bad, considering that I used the medium quality settings and a relatively cheap filament. At least the bikini is visible. But the problems with the hair caused a slight quality degradation of the face, so it is difficult to tell that this figure is Erika.
Also, the lighting conditions are rather bad. Maybe I will try again in a few hours when there is some daylight.
I am printing another test now with the same model lying down. I scaled it up a bit so that Erika would be 27 cm tall. I will see if it prints better, but I expect that the hair will also fail.

I didn't know yeti could swim!!Special Render (L) - Alexia - Free Version
Continuing the Valentine's theme, some people like a jacuzzi full of flowers. With that Jacuzzi, neither flowers, champagne, nor even water are necessary.
Alexia is the only gift I need for Valentine's Day. She is more intoxicating than champagne, refreshing than water, and beautiful than flowers.
Enjoy the Full HD render (4K for subscribers).

Mine can do 16cm in height but usually you print them at around a 45 degree angle which means i can use around 22cm in height.Well... as expected, the hair is a complete disaster. This works very well, yes. It's very common at least with resin printers.in the model world gluing things together isn't unheard of, right? I'd imagine you could glue them together from multiple chunks, the paint is another issue entirely though.
