I actually agree with you there. I'm kind of hoping there are few routes, because in my experience every time an indie dev attempts a story with multiple highly different routes, they end up abandoning the project (Especially if it's their first major project). My hope was that the personality page thing was mostly a riff on videogame stuff, and that there wouldn't really end up being actual routes, just one main story line with choosable love interests that is otherwise mostly fixed. 8 fully fleshed out love interests with multiple routes based on theme as well feels like a hell of a lot to do for a first attempt.
I agree though, if he does end up pushing for the multiple route angle, that interaction should take place down one of them, not in the prologue.
