He lost not 1 client he lost 2. He was warned to shore up his relationship with the clients, and he failed. (may be this was all set up)
Hutch was immediately ordered to leave and to come and see Christian the next day in his office to talk about his future!
This is dead man seriously walking out of office for good.
Again, I am just assuming that Christian might have had another plan for Hutch before Christian made the acquaintance of Vivian besides putting Hutch outside the door. A plan that does not include terminating him but using him for something else.
And if we are honest, why would a chick like Addison ensnare a guy like Hutch...this smells fishy since the beginning.
My initial comment on this was in response to why Hutch wasn't fired on the spot, and was asked to come back the next day to discuss his future. Hutch suggested HR/IT involvement, and I was echoing that it could be a reason for it.
Christian says the sales office is the first office he bought, but they've obviously expanded because other functions of the business are elsewhere, and there's mention of a warehouse too, so possibly two or more other locations (although I think some of those other functions might be at the warehouse location, based on some conversation that I can't recall specifics of). Hutch also makes enough to get an expensive vehicle (on finance) and talk between Hutch and Vivian suggests that commission makes up a major part of that income. All of this tells us that the business is at least reasonably successful. As Christian's business, that reflects on him. If he wasn't at least "quite good" at it, he wouldn't be able to build up a successful business (and it sounds like it might be a difficult market perhaps - there are only two companies in the city who do what they do, whatever that is).
We also know, from Hutch's comments, that there is a HR function, and an IT function to the business. In most businesses (and this may obviously vary country by country), you wouldn't just fire someone on the spot, you might suspend them with immediate effect, but then you'd have an official process to follow with HR, to avoid a "wrongful dismissal" lawsuit, if nothing else. Even though it's Christian's company, he'd still have to follow such rules. So it's not beyond any realms of belief that he would send Hutch away at the time (suspend him), and get him to return the next day where he would be officially dismissed. Hutch invoking HR when pondering this with Vivian suggests that it could be a genuine reason.
As far as "dead man walking" goes, the colleagues don't know anything. They are only making comments based on what they have seen and heard, which is largely an angry boss, and Hutch being the reason for it because two of his clients bailed. Dead man walking is a term used to mean "not dead yet, but well on his way". In employment terms, it refers to someone who will soon lose his job - so he's made mistakes, his position is untenable, etc., but he's not actually been fired yet.
It's another form of speculation. It's like sports fans chanting "you're getting sacked in the morning!" when the team isn't doing well. The team's manager is taking the heat, and may well get sacked in the morning, or he may survive and keep his job, because the fans aren't the ones who make the decision or who know all the details. Here, that's Max, he doesn't know everything, and he doesn't make the decision, he's just making an assumption.
As for Addison, no idea, it is a bit of a weird one. Maybe she just has a particular taste in men that Hutch falls into. There's no accounting for taste, after all!
What we can agree on, is that this is a complex game, with so many possibilities, so it's natural that there is a lot of speculation and wildly different ideas on what might happen or why things already have happened!
