Steam version uses 7.8.4, non Steam uses 7.3.5, so they won't work with each other in regards to savegames :/.

You can select the "Beta branch" now, that should work until Steam unlocks it for my default thing again.

I didn't play the other game, but reading the description I guess you play as a father and husband, does this mean that in this one you play as a a young character aka "son"?
