So, isn't abandoned tag supposed to apply when there'e not only been no update but also no word on anything from the dev about the state of development, right? Yet K7 has been been very open and transparent about the state of the development related to their seized assets and that they have been spending their time at least doing writing for the game, but somehow that's just being dismissed even though it's half of what's necessary to not get the 'Abandoned' tag?

If so, then this just seems like a textbook case of arbitrary application of rules rather than proper application, especially when there are other games with year+ lack of updates but not labeled "abandoned" because the devs provide regular updates.
No, it's an Or. The problem is making a exception and then revoking it. Site moderation seems really messy.

My goodness, can everyone just simmer down please? It's obvious that there needs to be some space and quiet between the sides here. Neither side is going to budge, and only continue speaking and deriding one another. So everyone just stop it. Killer7 those that know the situation will always understand, and those that don't won't. It's been this way awhile and will continue until your situation improves.
Lerd0 please just stop. You should know better considering how long you've been here for. You've said your piece, and now you've just aggravating others.

And everyone that's participating in this snide back and forth: grow up or suck my dick

Pretty sure it's supposed to be both criteria. But hey, if some people say "and" and some say "or", I guess that just goes to show how inconsistent the application of it is and this is just another example of it.

The 18+ months since an update overrules the on hold tag, you can't just go 18 months without an update and then slap the on hold tag for another 6 months to avoid getting the abandoned tag. It's a weird rule not gonna lie, but we still have to follow it. I follow the development and sympathise with your case, not being able to work on the game because of some bullshit must suck. But the rules say the game should have been tagged as abandoned and not on hold, the only reason why it didn't was probably because someone up the chain didn't follow the rules correctly.

3. Prefixes
  1. On-hold: used for a developer who temporarily stops working on a game for whatever reason and makes a clear public statement about it, if they do not resume work in 6 months the prefix is changed to Abandoned.
  2. Abandoned: used in the following cases:
    • The developer states that the development has been permanently suspended.
    • After 3 months of inactivity from the developer's public creator/crowdfunding accounts (Patreon, SS, etc), we will resolve special circumstances or scenarios on a case-by-case basis (no creator accounts, creators developing for free, Patreon accounts under review/ban).
    • No game update has been released for an abnormally long period of time (>18 months).
    • Game threads that are marked On-hold for over 6 months with no game update.
    • Note: this prefix is only removed upon the release of a new update for purchase/download.
  3. Complete: when a game is released in its full version as stated by the developer. Note that complete games might still receive patches and post-release content.

Though I always assumed special circumstances or case-by-case solution applied to all criterias, not just 3 months rule. Suppose not. Also, if the rules are going to be followed. It does not say here you cannot put on-hold tag right before 18th months, iirc it got the tag at the time. then according to the 3.1, it will only get abandoned tag after 6 months with no update.
So, it seems unfair according to the rules.
