This is a huge codec pack which has a pretty good reputation and which I've been recommending to some others here, too
After installing them, try to run the game again.
Also, as a side note, since you're running Win 8.1, you should consider an upgrade. Windows 10 is still supported (at least until October of this year) and the upgrade should still be possible for free with your genuine 8.1 key.
Might be possible that this would've also solved your problem.

the very next update has been going down the early access list on their Patreon its currently 2 days out from the public release.
Please advise I'm unable to find the HR Office and I've gotten Jessica to Affection 5 and fully corrupted Jean and Mira....
Looks like it has been released for public version now on Patreon. How soon can we expect a compressed version?

on the devs patreon there is a patch file above the main downloads to correct the Navigation UI.
Why do new characters suddenly have these horrible grey outlines? And people seem to be floating in space instead of positioned as well as they were before. Looking closely at this, new characters appear to be cutouts placed over the scene instead of proper renders in the scene.

Can' talk to anyone in HR but Gina or I get an exception and have to rollback. Also the gym desk is sometimes not responding.
I apologize if this has been posted, but I have spent the last half hour running searches and can't seem to find any mention if it. I am stuck right at the very beginning, when first returning home. Right after the instructions on the various elements of the UI and you select 'Yes, sir' most of the UI disappears. I have access to the phone, the time skip button and the map. I can skip time to when Katarina shows up, and talk to her, but when that is done I am left again with missing elements of the UI. Can't leave the room, don't even have the Back/History/Skip/Auto/etc options at the bottom. Have reinstalled the game, and chosen both to play the intro and skip it and end up with the same situation. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I would think so since it is only not even a Kb. What I do not understand is why they uploaded it too Mega and not just attach it here.
Hey, I played this a while back on v1.75 i think. I loaded my old save in 1.81 and I think I cannot move inside the main house
Like, I can move via the map but the navigation panel that was on the bottom of the screen (and which is still present in, for example, morningstar's home) is just not there and will also not show up when Imove my mouse to the bottom of the screen (which was the one thing I found on this issue in the comments).
Is this a gamebreaking bug or am I just too dumb? Thanks in advance for any help

I just tried the new update and have the same exact problem. Wasn't an issue with the one before it. I think its a bug.
Have you tried the bugfix in the OP under the links?
I overlooked that one, and was then confused where to put it
(It belongs in \game\ btw)
