The amount of devs that go silent due to family emergencies/health emergencies/brokeandorlost their computer.....simply staggering
True, but I try to remember that in some of those cases, shit does happen, and not always as excuse to delay things. A full game does take time to create, years in most cases, especially with solo developers who have fulltime jobs as well. Major life events are more impactful to developers who don't have teams behind them. Just gotta play it by ear if you are a supporter and be weary of devs who go long stretches even during development without communicating or have a lot of abandoned games under their belt.

As a man who's gone through many PCs because I over-estimated what kind of games they could handle, I can imagine the graphic rendering devs do burning out alot of computers.

But yeah, making adult games seems to be like placing the mark of death on your closest family members

Sometimes major events like the death of a family member or significant barriers like the loss of a hard drive/computer give the time to look back at what you've been doing and re-evaluate. Perhaps they did intend to return but it was just not worth redoing all of that work, or on reflection you were pouring yourself into the work for incommensurate reward, or it was just too hard and you didn't know what to do so it was easier to just stop.
