Probably for the fairy appearance. Wings, ears, etc... Also perhaps for the fairy personality if it is a character in an actual story. I imagine those are the reasons for having a fairy in a game and they just shrink the guy or enlarge the fairy.

I personally like fairies aesthetics and wings and the such. A Fairy wing is completely different from an angel (if done properly I'd say better than an angel's wing.) And I also don't only have "fleshy treetrunk" in mind when specifically thinking about fairies.
