The soulbinding only happens when you are romancing the goddesses, as said, it's marriage for them, sex and all, it has no influence on the other LI paths.
I am romancing everyone and got an error message at this very part. And just like the previous comment, when it came time the soul binding did not happen. So I believe it is a gameplay error though I could be wrong. I don't know which version of the game they are using.
