Hi guys, im thinking of creating an Adult VN, i would like to know what kind of features/ideas you guys would like to see in my VN that aren´t very common to find on this particular type of games, but would make the game more interesting and a better and more memorable experience, thanks for the feedback :)

As someone who will at some point or another end up trying your game, if your game is choice based, please make the choices weight, it's really unappealing when a choice based vn, all that changes between options are 2 lines of dialogues, "say nothing" and "say nothing" can't lead to the same point, if they do that selection shouldn't be there.

Other than that, i don't know what you want to make, but if you're going with touchy subjects (ntr for example) be clear about what you want from the start, and also tell people what are your goals. If it's just something you do for fun in your free time, say it, if you're taking it as a full time job too.

Finally, if you're putting patreon goals think about them for a sec, because getting $499 for 12+ months gives you more resources than getting $500 for just one, to clarify: (in my view) you can't just say that when you get x amount/month you'll upgrade your pc or start putting more time into it.

It depends on what you're going for / what are your interests, for the ultimate exposure you'd have to make an incest game with great visuals, absolutely no ntr, a metric shit ton of porn scenes and harem paths.

I am a huge fan of incest myself, but I feel like the explosion on the genre makes for low effort plots and attempts against the game itself, it can be done and work wonders, but just another "your dad is gone, fuck every family member with whatever means necessary" is kind of boring, but there's a market for everything, so if you're looking to make money out of the game go with yet another incest game, if you're making it because you like it just follow what inspired you to make it.

Most of the vns i really enjoy right now are more story driven than doing it for the porn itself (then again that's just my taste), incest games in particular, moreso with incest patchs right now, don't elaborate at all on mc or those around him being conflicted, there's the occasional "i can't she's my mom/sister/aunt" but they never write reflections from the character on how if he goes on with it he'll never look at them the same way or anything that'd actually be scary for them in that situation.

As for a concrete answer I don't really know which genres are underdeveloped because I don't know how the market would react to them, but I know that breeding / pregnancy is a sought after theme that doesn't come up too much and some people (such as myself) would really enjoy it, but there's the issue that like ntr it's a very polar subject, either someone's crazy about it or they hate it and on top of that it's really hard to achieve with daz (it's something i've been trying to do with my shitty gpu, takes some time) and it could possibly mean making an entire different path in a vn just to add it.

dude, I can totally relate to all you just said, i couldn´t have described it better even if i tried, i also hate to grind in a VN, it just doesn't make any sense to me. the story is probably gonna be focused around the harem genre, but I´m most certain i will try to add a bit of every kink that i think could fit in specific characters. i´m gonna check your thread to get more information though, thank you very much for your feedback :)

At the risk of being -very- dull, I'd say just make the game -you- want to make. Else you'll run out of steam and motivation. We've sorta seen it happen with other games (most noticeably BB, where the dev -due to polls- ended up making a game he obviously wasn't interested in and bailed out as soon as he could).

Anyway, that's my two pennies worth, other than that @ and @ have hit the nail on the head. Defo read Guy's post he linked to.

A lot of these abandoned games you see are from devs who did one of two things. They either let their players push them in directions they weren't originally going by listening to feedback too much or the dreaded polls.

The thing with letting your player base decide is you are no longer making the game you want to make. You are making the game no one wants because, as I said above, you are taking ideas from everyone and we all like different things.

That causes devs to burn out as they no longer have any passion in what they are doing. DS had it with BB. As soon as the player base started dictating things you could see DS give up. Patreons crack down on incest was the excuse needed to drop BB altogether. They could have carried on in other ways, they didn't want to.

There are very few devs on here that willing to say "this is my story and i'll do it how I want" because at the end of the day, it is. They did that and they built up a player base that enjoyed their work because they know it's not going to turn into a cluster fuck of various ideas.

Here's my take and i've said it time and time again, I want to see what YOU the developer can make. I don't want to see what your player base can make you do. If you have no confidence in your own work, why should I have any confidence in what you are making?

Everyone has an idea of what would improve any given game but there is one problem, most of those ideas are utter shit. Everyone thinks they have a great idea but very few actually do and most of those ideas would ruin that game. Now you end up with the cluster fuck when you take lots of shit ideas from your player base and put them all together and end up with the ultimate shit fest.

Again, and I can't stress this enough, I don't give a fuck what ideas your player base has i'm not interested. I'm only interested in seeing what you as a developer can do.

Okay, so if it's a harem game, one assumes it's a "gotta catch em all" scenario. As opposed to a pick your best waifu game. Both are fine, but there are some differences. The main one being in a choose a waifu game you have to restart to try other girls. So I'm assuming the first type.

So without knowing much of the setting, I'll list my ideal suggestions. They may not work with what you have in mind. I realize you may have thought of most or all of these, but here they are.

-Try to make all the girls optional. Maybe the player isn't into certain ones. Don't make them go through Amy's entire route to get to Sarah's route.
-If possible, let the player choose the order in which to pursue the girls. Introduce them to all of the girls and then let them decide which one or ones to start with.
-Differentiate the girls. If you are focusing on certain kinks, then I assume the different girls have different kinks. Don't forget to give them personalities. WHY is she into whatever she's into? At the same time, have some different body types. Petite, athletic, thicc. You could run into an issue where a player likes the girl's kink, but not the girl's model. It's a risk you may want to take.
-Make it possible to have all the girls. I realize it's more interesting if, say, two girls hate each other and you have to pick one. A little bit of drama. But that can be a real bummer if the player really likes both. Perhaps you can find a way to sort out their differences.
-Don't be afraid to make the player pay attention. So assuming the different girls have different ways to win them over, you don't have to softball it. Bad example: "I like chocolate." Player buys chocolate. "Here's your chocolate" "I love chocolate." +1 Good(?) example: "I love all sorts of animals, I grew up on a farm." Player is buying a stuffed animal: elephant, panda, or pig? Pigu (farm animal) is +2, elephant or panda is +1.

Actually most of the things you suggested were things that i had already thought of implementing in the game, especially the kink part, specific girls will have specific kinks, i think you are gonna like this one :)

ok so i need to make something appealing, but i can´t ignore my ideas for the sake of the extra appeal it could get. This game is supposed to be more like a challenge/objective than a career choice. i just wanna leave my mark in the genre xd

I'm by no means saying don't listen to ideas but when your project is finished you need to be able to look at it and be proud of what you've made.

It's doesn't matter if you 2 players or 2000 as long as you are happy with what you turn out.
