There are lots of people here that are happy to answer questions, I'm sure you two aren't the only female devs and you are definitely not the only two females on the forum, I've been asking a lot of questions to some of them on here and they're probably sick of me by now, but they would never say because most people on here are so nice! :)

Edit: Heavy Five looks really cool. I'm pretty in love with attitude in the sig images I'm seeing. Their facial expressions are great. I need to check it out.

Pretty stoked to meet another female dev. I would bombard you with questions if I had the chance.
Thankees.

Do feel free to drop me a DM if you wish. I'm deep in the mire of trying to get Chapter Four out at the mo so I might be a tad slow in responding but more than happy to answer anything if you feel it would be useful. H5 is my first game tho, so I won't pretend to have any deep game dev expertise! Having said that I have learned a ton since it came out and I wish I knew half the things I know now before I started. :)

That's very awesome of you! I have absolutely zero knowledge of renpy so you're an expert in my eyes lol.

I won't kill you with questions, I feel ya on the release stuff. Especially when you have people expecting it.
BUT if you had 3 things you wish you would have known going in, what would they be? Feel free to expand on that! haha

Btw I read your write up thread on your game and it's one of the best game descriptions I've read so far. Pretty badass
edit: I can answer questions about unity or rpg mv if I can, but I'm limited in the unity 2d field.

Gosh, three things *thinks* I suppose my top three four would probs be:

1) Have a release on the stocks. For example I originally planned to have Chapter One and Two done before I released Chapter One to take off the pressure on delivery. However, by an odd quirk of fate as soon as One was done there was a small rash of sci-fi games that came out and I panicked and hit the release button. Biggest mistake I made!

2) Ensure whatever assets you plan to use you've got/made or have tested. It's a bitch suddenly trying to find a location you need!

The next two are more general. Not really things I wish I had known but certainly I regard them both as good advice.

3) Always, always make the game -you- want to make. A lot of game making is fun. But there are times when it can be a chore. If you're not making the game you want, that chore turns into something you end up resenting - and that's not fun at all.

4) Be prepared for not being able to please everyone. There will be peeps who love your game. There will be peeps who hate it. Never ever take the latter personally.

Thankees re the description :) And that's a case in point re 4 above oddly enough. Some people hate it... :)

Hey there.

Hope you don't mind if I drop my 2 cents here...

I guess it's worth to spend a minute to think about money ahead. You need to make money from this game? You want to? Then Patreon or similar options are probably a good way to do. On the other hand they will restrict you content wise and you will have to give up some anonymity (for example you will have to add a bank account, real name or something). If you are free to develop your game and share it here for example for the fame you are far more free with your content and to use meassures to separate this from the rest of your life reducing risk of any backfire. There should be some middle ways though like donations or so.

And, as @Nottravis already pointed out people are people and haters will hate. People flame on NTR games for including NTR (which is quite hilarious in a way) so probably there will be people who gonna flame you... doesn't matter what you offer. That's quite sad, but maybe better to be prepared.

Besides I'm looking forward for some teasers and stuff. If there is something a gamer may help... just drop a line.

Oh, edit: About the sounds... there should be samples available, maybe even free to use ones. That would spare you buying a new micro or exposing you. (Example: ). Maybe you can find something there?

Pretty excellent advice!
I think my assets are a little too concept art looking but I'm trying to focus more on getting my systems working and hopefully I can brush the art up once I get 80% of the rest done.
Whew thinking chapters ahead and I'm not even done cleaning up my dialogue! Haha
It's too bad I can't do beastie monsters and I have to stick with humans. I really like the creativity that comes with aliens and big monsters. But I guess I'll have to get more creative with my enemies!

Edit: Thanks for the advice FA80

I would like to make something back and break even on the licence but I yeah it would have to be donations. I didn't plan on releasing to steam or anything haha.
I'm going to sound really dumb but what is NTR?

And where is the best place to post teaser if I could risk sounding derp again.

NTR is short for Netorare - here is a crude description -

As for teasers, if you want an honest opinion, here is as good a place as any. :) Just make sure you follow any rules provided.

Hey everyone! I'm not new to making games, but I am new to making adult themed games. I've always wanted to do it, but wasn't sure I could keep the two separate.
I'm a girl in the US and I'm wondering if I could use my own voice for little sound clips. Maybe hard breathing and small moans?
Ok, seriously.
This is the most hot shit I've seen in a while in this form of entertainment.
Put it in the description of your game.

Well... when you are okay with that... you could consider starting at a forum like this (you are here already anyways)... and as soon there is some content kindly ask for a donation in your game for those who like it. Finding 20 people donating 5$ each should be possible if that the range you want. When you're game growth bigger you still can reconsider that later.

Being free of patreon or steam and stuff also means your free to develop the game you want. Can't really say about legal (laws are a bit crazy sometimes) but Aliens and stuff shouldn't exactly be bestiality? Japanese invented tentacles to slip around laws too. So there might be a hole? And as long as it is art and not a product to be sold... asking a lawyer could really help though. But furry, means humanoid beasts, no? And humanoid is just around 2 arms + some legs + head(s)+ what you like to add. Fur is not actually limited you may add as much as you like, a werewolf is quite furry though, no? There are even some furry games on patreon and steam. So I doubt that is a big deal. Same for Aliens, there is also some stuff around.

General discussion or off topic could be good places to post some teasers? And you have some resources available on this board too. Although a lot of flamers here (and everywhere else too) there are also nice ones here. And you already started to make friends here... :)

Edit: And a small add to content question... afaik here is quite everything okay but pedophile stuff (https://f95zone.to/threads/regarding-loli-and-shota-content.5808/)

IMO it's better not to ask for donations until you really have something to show. Once you hit the crowdfunding button there are expectations and it's no turning back (it shouldn't be at least).:)

This is really important. NEVER ask for money if you don't have any build (or even assets).
Maybe I was unclear. Thanks for correction. I never wanted to propose to ask donations in advance...

I've been working on the tileset for the game and not even thinking about patreon lol. I need a few levels and at least some showable art before I get into all that. But if I didn't use patreon where would a good host be? Is there a particular site that hosts games with no slippery slope type rules? I really need to plan that better next time. Luckily as of now, it's just some concept art which can be scraped if I want to stay in the lines rule wise.

I know a lot of websites and site hosts have rules against adult content and porn related sites.
I have a little HTML5 browser game I want to upload but not sure where to put it. It's nothing big, but it's kinda of funny.

Thanks so much for being so helpful everyone. You all have a nice community ging on and I'm glad to be a part of it.

Oh and if you all have any plugins or features you like to see in RPG maker games, let me know!

Some tips here.
Generally, people don't care about combat, except if it's well made with sex elements.
Maybe it's just me, but if gameplay noticeably interrupts sexy time with "go there, find an item, fight this or that," it's a lousy gameplay design, except if it's a heavily story-based game like a proper RPG.
People dislike walking around if it's RPGM game. Forget fetch quests, make exploration meaningful.
Use yanfly call events plugin. It's great. You can structurize your events very neatly with it.
Also, yanfly optimization plugin is worth to take a look. It greatly improves performance for pc.
For sfx/music, unity store is a great source. You can find 10 great sounding song packs under 30$ over there.

Speaking of patreon, I think they got nothing forbidding magical beasts. Paint some stripes and call them magical wolves. Also, if the animal spoke, it was ok at least some time ago. Can be different now.

If you want to publish a demo or your HTML5 game, F95 is an option to start. You have already seen the big "games" section? This site is just about adult games. There are rules about how to make a game thread, like what info is needed, what file hosts are accepted, what tags should be used, and so on. And F95 is quite unflinching about content. ;)

And as mentioned before. Nobody here will restrict you to try to make some money later, like publishing your game(s) on patreon or ask for donations. Having a established fan base here might be helpful.

Hooray!

Strictly on the first topic, there some themes like pedophilia that are unanimity, banned in all kind of foruns. Incest and bestiality are commonly the discussion frontier. Incesty in my point of view, is treated in a very hypocrite way. Some great games were abandoned because of that, while 90% of creators simply replaced "mom" for "landlady" and "syster" for "roommate", same graphics, same everything, and they were fine with Patreon. You can use at will, just use the magic words: landlady and roommate.

I never saw a creator being blocked for bestiality. I guess that Patreon's team intention by set this rule was to avoid bumping into some mexican popular theater, some young girl being abused by a horse or something. Hybrids seems to be completely fine, you have games Monster Girls style, Breeders, and so on. Bones' Tales was my first memory of regular animals having sex, but he is out of Patreon.

Another thing worth mentioning, by having the voice source at your disposal you definitely have a big leverage on other games. This is a feature that I dream of having in the team, but in my city that is almost impossible.

For example, I remember that I found this game because I was chatting about mind control games, then I searched for the tag. The voices really got my attention: https://f95zone.to/threads/snow-daze-the-music-of-winter-cypress-zeta.142/
The story and art are also great, but the voices on the game really stand out.

There is a thread here with other examples: https://f95zone.to/threads/looking-for-games-with-english-voice-acting.27751/#post-2032189

I'm one of the older folks (there's more than a few of us) so I'll be answering based on experience rather than hormones. :)

As mentioned, there are several other females in the deving of games on this site, including Nottravis (Heavy 5), AlleyKat (Scarlet Spire), Neko-Hime (Neko Faeries), and a whole bunch of others that assist with writing, or indeed voice acting on top. The fact that there are several who devote their time purely to voice acting ought to answer half your question right away.

On the specifics of the Mic, a Blue Snowball is a fine mic, with almost the exact same specifications as the Blue Yeti - close enough identical in fact that other than stylistics and a knob on the front, I can't recall any major differences at all in the actual specs and dynamics. It is more than good enough for this purpose, especially as you'll honestly have to consider compressing sound files anyway to keep file sizes manageable for downloading the game.

In general, having the sounds adds to the appeal of the game, because while many play without sounds, or disable sound by preference (and do make sure the game won't surprise players by suddenly blaring out loud sex scenes to the entire house, the neighbours, etc), well, they won't mind they are there if they can turn them down or off, so it won't put them off. So it is a bonus for those that like the sound, and doesn't put off those that don't.

No matter what kind of mic you have, the combination of Microphone and recording environment together is most important. A small room or closet, cloth on the walls set out slightly from them (seriously, take a square pic frame, tape old towels or clothes to it, you can use plastic clothes hangars etc and\or COMMAND brand stuff to stick it to walls, providing just a little air between the wall and cloth, cover some wall space on all sides, and point yourself slightly offset from a corner [slightly right or left of it] so the walls around you are not perfectly parallel). Once you treat the room a little, you'll be able to do some processing on the mic. Get a decent small speaker and download a file of PINKNOISE. Make a file of your own of this for up to 5 min. Play it back through a speaker into the mic, from where you would be sitting\standing. Play it back for about 1min at 25%-50% of volume, stop, increase volume, and play again; repeat until you are 75%-90% of your max volume. Now put in your audio editor (DAW) and put on an EQ plugin, but don't listen to it (pink noise is nothing but static). Play it and watch the EQ as the volume is raised, you'll see areas where different frequencies react louder or softer than others, you will pull them inline using the eq. Here's where you make a decision: if the frequencies that are a bit loud actually seem to multiply as you increase the volume (ie they get a lot louder when the rest get a little louder, raise by 3 and bad freq goes by 6 etc), then you may wish to put a multiband compressor on the input side, and only compress that area when it begins to multiply, since such a compression actually divides the level. However, you can also set your input level to match the level of the whitenoise at about 60-75% volume, and then use an eq instead, saving the setting first, and then recording a new audio track with the EQ on. When you finish recording, mix the recording to a file, then bring it into another session for adding other effects.
As for the mic... ...a $15 piece of junk can work fine. Just add a decent pop filter, and don't be more than 3 feet from the mic. Get a good input like a ZOOM H6 or H8, heck even a Behringer or m-audio single channel input will do; or one of those usb mixers. Then spend good money on the wire that connects the mic to the input box and the box to the computer. Keep them both short, and highly shielded. You will get the best audio. My favorite pop filter is one I call the BullyBeater IceCream. Basically, you can take any old gym-sock, shove a solo-style mic into it so the top ball or sound element front is covered well, rubber band to hold that in place, then fold the sock up on itself and rubberband the top. This creates a mic that looks like a sloppy icecream cone, and the double filtering of the sock actually provides a really awesome pop filter. It also works great for outdoor interviews, and when you paint the mic like an icecream, you can teach a bully a lesson.
