Is Ostrich alright? Writing this many lines of code (10) in such a short period of time couldn't possibly be healthy for him.
It's quite sad that this is still one of the better games in the genreNine years....
Not really, when you think about it. This is more than likely the most recognizable text based adult games on this website, as in no images or plans to add them, to which there is not exactly a large demand for. SO pretty much has a monopoly on the genre and is milking it for all it is worth as, despite the updates being progressively more pathetic... the base game is still one of the best in the genre, to my knowledge. Until someone comes along with the willingness to take a shot at the current king of the hill, I would not expect anything meaningful to change, and even if that did happen, the only change I could see happening is the updates stopping in their entirety if New Life ever gets overshadowed by a competitor.
I would argue Course of Temptation is a better text based game of this type.

Course of Temptations and Inner Empire are excellent for playing while we wait for the next update.
It's based largely on the fact that there's a ton of work that goes into the game. Writing a sex scene for the game that considers all the different permutations and the like takes a ton of work, and this is where the competitors always give up--they can't do it.
As much as people criticize Newlife for slow updates, no one is trying to compete with it because there's so much work inherent to trying to do so that makes it a monumental undertaking.
This. Some years ago I considered making a similar game but where you played as a guy, and soon I realized how quickly the complexity would escalate, so I gave up on the idea
Honestly, the only way I can see this being more doable would be by running a local LLM and leverage it with some pre written passages, and very clearly defined system prompts. This would still require a lot of work setting it up, but if you could manage it, then you could scale it a lot further than newlife.
I remember really liking Inner Empire when I tried it a good time ago. But I was annoyed by how my stats made my character act quite outside of what I wanted for them. Like, get seduced without any prompting because I apparently didn´t have the will to resist.
It is one thing for my character to get seduced with my prompting, because they are impaired like drunk or something or because of mind control or stuff like that. But I didn´t like getting the control taken from me like that.
I understand the lack of control bothering you.
Rather have that than this games VERY specific requirements to have a unique sex scene, because the only good sex scenes are unique. To get the only good sex scenes, you need to design around those scenes to get them, which is to restrictive to me.
I also dislike the lack of modding... I also dislike the narrow of scope the player is allowed to be. I have been paying attention to this game for a LONG time. I even talked to Splendid Ostrich once in DMs when the game was young. Think that was in the Hongfire days. That was a LONG ass time ago LOL.
you give way more credit than is deserved; in the course of the 5+ years ive known about this game, virtually nothing has changed about it other than being able to be with other women and VERY minor worldbuilding via the landlord stuff and a few other small things. You're acting like there are different lines being written for every variation but its really just blanks that get filled by the various descriptions that you either write in yourself or pick at the beginning, any minor text issue that pops up from that doesn't get sorted out until its reported and fixed later. If you played this game 5 years ago and didnt want to be in a relationship with a lesbian, there is basically nothing different at all sex scene wise and thats not really exaggerating. not to mention the fact that months of the "effort" that went into the lesbian content produced very little results and its extremely barebones. 99% of the content is identical today to what it was when i first played and the few things that have been added are all 1 liners for extremely specific situations that many people wont see at all without trying to track them down. virtually no effort has gone into expanding the sex scenes at all or adding onto to what is already there. I wasnt around to see the very beginning but id wager more effort went into the first year than the 8 that followed.
making excuses for him is eyeroll inducing when its clear that this game has been dead in the water for more than half a decade now; when i think about what other games have added in half that time i can't help but feel contempt. its very clear this game has been used as a patreon milker and keep in mind that hes making a minimum of 2500(likely a fair bit more) a month pre patreon cut which at worst is 12%; especially cancerous considering there have been multiple multi month periods with no updates only to come back and release an update with 1 new line. the amount of effort put into this project, which is bringing in thousands a month, would have you fired at any real job.
