I try not to get involved too much in this kind of situations, but I feel like a lot of developers around here are being a little bit misstreated and accused. Let me just do some simple math for everyone around.
After more than 2 years of doing this I can say that I'm one of the guys who do renders quite fast. I know my asset library and I know a thing or two about how to do a game. I know that there are other people who are way better than me, but a lot of the developers are on the same level as me. So let me tell you what would mean to create a version with 950 renders and 50 animations for someone like me.
I takes me around 10 minutes to do the posing. Because some of them are easier and I get them done in like 3/4 minutes while others take up to 20 minutes. So let's say it takes me 10 minutes for a render:
10m * 950posing = 9.500m = 158hours
A smooth 24frames animations for a second takes around 20 minutes
20m * 50animations = 1.000m = 16hours
For me to write a text worth of 1000 renders it's going to take easily up to 70hours, because it's not like someone is dictating me stuff. I need to think them, rewrite them, adjust them.
text = 70h
Now only my work will take 244hours. It doesn't sound too bad up until now, but that's not all there is to a game. There are preparation, character design, preparing the scenes, doing the render tests, photoshop, color correction and so on and all this things take time. Because it's not like we open up a scene and then just do the posing.
Beside that, most of us have decent computers, but we don't have the power of big developers. In my situation I have 2x1080TI, which is more than plenty of others developers and even so, it takes me 1h to make the render. And just like most of the people we don't have two different computers. One for posing, one for rendering. When we're doing the pose and making the scene the computer doesn't render.
So beside the 244hours you need to add 900hours render time for the still images and around 500hours for the animations (in the case where you lower the settings to save time and pay the cost of the quality).
So in my case to make an episode worth of 1000 renders(animations included) it would take me around 1.500 hours. Yeah there are things you can do when the computer is rendering, but still 1.500 hours for a single developer who is doing this as a part time job is pretty much if you ask me.
So if you don't like the fact that developers are making short episodes go there and support them. Help them get better rig. Help them make this as a full time job. There are a lot of talented people who don't get enough credit, because you are comparing them to big developers which is not fair.
The same thing goes for me. If you really enjoy my work and would love longer episodes with more content, consider supporting me, because it's hard. We all have 24h in a day. We need to work 8-10hours/day, then we need to work on a hobby project a few more hours. Which would mean that we have to do big sacrifices. Sacrifice friends and family!
So if you just want to jerk off go and watch a porn. There are plenty, but if you want to play a good game, support the developers.
