And to be fair, I think almost any genre of AVN the majority end up abandoned...

HAHAHA, this has to be the single worst reason to abandon a game that I've ever seen, suddenly the dev was hit with extreme morality and states that he can't make a game with incest anymore, because he has a family now?? Umm didn't you have a Mother or a Sister before? WTF are you talking about, what compete nonsense. Abandoned another game, will never support you again, a load of shit.

They got married and had a kid and somehow she found out and was like "you need to stop doing this or we're getting a divorce" and he said okay.
Everything else is noise/spin by the dev.
And saying "I'm having a crisis of conscience because i am now a father" is a lot more palatable in this type of environment than "my wife told me I have to stop making porn games"

I would've totally believed that if he didn't say he will make other Adult Visual Novels without Incst. I doubt his wife would be okay with AVN even without Incst. If that was the case he would have to just stop Developing AVN all together.
Still wife being okay with just AVN without Incst would've been better than reason he gave us.

That's not how it works though. He is not fixing so his game can fit to some regulations. In his mind, Triss will always be the sister and Charlotte will always be the mother, it won't matter if you name them shapeshifting alien.
Though, I don't think dev being honest about why he is abandoning. What he said may played a part but I don't think it's the entire truth. Maybe we'll learn, maybe we'll never learn. I've found this game a month or two ago, so my disappointment is not that big but it's sad to see losing such a good game.
For those of us who've been playing for years it's worse. I imagine for patrons it's infuriating.
Yeah, I can imagine. There are one or two games I try to follow and I can feel abandonment is coming soon for them and it's kinda infuriating scenario.

I didn't mean Patreons rules or any other type of rules, I meant how the dev implied that he didn't want to continue to work on the game because it has and in his words promotes "incest" especially now that he has a family of his own.
I know, that's what I was pointing out. Changing MC to stepson, tenant or any other shenanigans would not work in Dev's situation. He does know they are related, he created them as such so whatever you do he will feel like he is creating an incest story. Now he is uncomfortable with that, he has to stop. There is no way around. Maybe except killing the current MC and introducing a new MC, which will be a different game. Or dropping Charlotte and Triss, maybe Denise too, as LIs, which will cause an uproar bigger than abandonment. So in anyway, if the devs explanation legit, there is nothing he could do but quit the production.
But I don't believe that. These kind of changes won't come this suddenly. It usually creeps up, a guilty feeling there, doubts at another, forces you to do things differently on subtle things etc. What I read was not the entire truth. This could be part of the reason but I don't think he tells all of it.
If the dev's explanation is legit he's being a kink-shaming hypocrite. Nothing about that is forcing him to dump the project, he's either leaving some details out or that's just the case.
I also think he is leaving some details but you are being unfair there. He is not kink-shaming anybody. People can lose a fetish or interest, just like they can develop one. If he is uncomfortable now which he was not before, that means he changed. That's not kink-shaming at all. You are asking him to create something that does not interest him, maybe even appall him. He simply can't. This could be a total retirement, or retirement from certain genres and non of it would make him kink-shaming hypocrite. Though I think he has to answer to his patrons (patreon, steam, itch etc.) because they gave their money with an expectation, which he is not delivering. He may need to settle that. Btw, I don't buy it, you support the dev not the game thing. If someone is getting a support that because of their game and nobody supports a game to abandonment.

But over the last few pages I posted the actual Abandoned stats:
Across All games: 25% Abandoned
Across non-Japanese games: 35% abandoned
Across Incest games: 44% Abandoned
Just comparing abandoned vs completed ratio (Excluding Japanese games)
it's about 50:50
Just looking and the top 120 games in views and ratings it's about
10% abandoned.

It is much lower than I expected. It seems in the last two years a lot of good games got abandoned.

I haven't looked, but the number is probably even less, considering there is some that are not actually abandoned, but they meet the F95 rules to have an abandoned tag.

I'm not sure what the dev's really about, with all the buzz surrounding his unfinished game, but I have a hard time believing that vague "personal reasons" explanation, especially considering that from what I've read here, he intends to keep creating AVNs. One would think that any kind of adult entertainment would be bad, when family is involved.
With how much this topic revolves around incest, the most probable cause of this entire shit-show (please excuse my language) is, at least in my quite humble opinion, money and politics, or I missed some crucial details. If that's so, sorry, please don't bash me too hard, I was out of the loop for a few months. He probably keeps getting cock-blocked on the sites where he released the game, and faced backlash with all the bullshit restrictions. If that's so, there's nothing anyone can do about it.
Personally, I hate the fact that the game was abandoned right before the finish line, and it's a good game, but if his reasons are valid, so be it. But that bit I've read about incest in his game being a problem, because now he has his own family... Seriously? That would be a problem, if he couldn't distinguish between games and reality, and if he believed that incest is fine irl and started raising his children in that belief, which I don't see happening, unless he withdrew, because he noticed that he has a mental problem. Then it would fit, and I'd really feel sorry for him. But it's all just a wild speculation, since nobody seems to have a full picture of what really happened, in all detail.
All things said, I wish him well, and if he sorts things out for himself, I'll more then likely play another one of his games. I just wish he actually committed to what he does, and finished the game, either this one or whatever he starts in the future. With his record, it will be hard to believe he can actually deliver, and his supporters base will be hard to rebuild.
