June 15 Development Log

First release of Nocturnal Angels went reasonably well, besides some nuisance issues.

In due time, I’ll be implementing a reward-incentive system for players who provide me with a little bit of feedback. As a game developer, I’m the doctor, and players are the patient: they can come and point and say 'it hurts here', but it's my job to ask follow-up questions and use their answers to fix the underlying problem. I learned during my previous game that it's important to lure the quiet players out of hiding, otherwise feedback ends up with issues of , since the people who experience no problems are far less likely to post about it than those who do.

The incentive will probably include--but not be limited to--downloadable packs of the lewd renders that didn't quite make the cut into the actual game.

So many mods for games work to make the UI unobtrusive. That's what I would aim for. Highlight what's going on visually and make the text unobtrusive, along with other controls for the game.

On another note, the flow of the story seems a bit guilty of what I've seen in a lot of anime - huge lore dumps at the beginning to introduce the world. And you've made the lore dump harder to read and "take in" by bouncing the text all over the place.

Thanks for your feedback, the concern regarding the UI will be addressed during my next development log.

As for the lore dump, was there a specific time or place where you felt confused or overwhelmed?

June 17 Development Log - v0.01b Release Date Announcement

Nocturnal Angels v0.01b will be released to the public on July 5th.

- Gold Patrons receive the new update six days before public release, on Monday, June 29th.
- Silver Patrons receive the new update four days before public release, on July 1st.
- Bronze Patrons receive the new update two days before public release, on July 3rd.

Besides new content, it will include minor improvements based on those who politely offered feedback:
- Option to opt-out of speech bubbles at beginning of the game and see bottom textbox instead
- Load menu is now available at quick menu
- Save menu has more save slots
- Save menu has more slots per page
- UI in-game menu options has bigger text
- Return to main menu available in-game

Playtime:

The amount of playtime added in this update can't be estimated until it's complete. This is because the use of sprites in my game makes "number of new renders" a poor measure of playtime. However, I would guess that playtime of v0.01b would be roughly equivalent to that of v0.01.

Raw Renders For Feedback System:

I've also implemented the reward-incentive system in my Discord for those willing to offer feedback. How it works:

1. Upon joining Discord, you can select button to acquire the Lab Rats role.
2. When Nemesis requests feedback on an aspect of the game, the Lab Rats get pinged.
3. Access is granted to the channel #⁠rat-laboratory where you can reply to Nemesis's question with an honest answer about the game.
4. Answers must be minimum one-sentence. You don't need to lie or kiss ass. Just be honest and think a little.
5. You will receive an automatic response with buttons below it. Press the button for an Uncut Render Pack (Callie Focused, Siobhan Focused, Reagan Focused, etc), and you will be sent to another channel where you can download it.

Reminder that the public release for Nocturnal Angels v0.01b comes out July 5th -- the last dev log had a typo. And the Patron release is staggered up to 6 days before that.

The update won't be affected by the fact I'm being kicked out of my home with only three weeks notice (nothing to do with me, the landlord just wants their place back.) So all my savings will be drained to deal with that.

All the UI improvements will be in v0.01b - more navigation buttons, save and load slots, etc. If you don't like speech bubbles, you'll have to restart to get your traditional textbox. The choice will be at the beginning of the game when you hit start.

The update after this coming one, v0.01c, will put a little bit more gameplay into this 'game'. It'll still be a visual novel, but you'll have to consider your choices a little bit more. I'll talk more about it in a future development log.

You didn't specify how many save slots will be added per page so I am worried you are only going up to 4 or something like that. I implore you to consider 8-10 like most games have. I could give lots of reasons why this is desirable and I am sure many veterans of AVNs can attest to the value.

While it was not on your list, I would also suggest modifying the Options tab display all options at once, rather than having to scroll down. Whatever the look of the expanded save/ load menus could be matched here - thus you can avoid the need for the player to scroll down to see the Display, Rollback Side and Skip options.

Haha, thanks for posting this - gotta say, the whole “people become their costumes” thing makes me wonder: if I accidentally put on the wrong outfit, am I suddenly a wizard, or just really, really confused? Also, living statues chasing you sounds like a legit nightmare. Anyone else imagine this turning into an intense game of “Statue Says” but with actual stakes? Curious how the NSFW part weaves in - hopefully the seamstresses aren’t too deadly with those needles. :D

Seriously dude, COMPRESS your images! Just 24 image files in the intro took up 327MB in the RPA. For shits n giggles I used XnView to convert those files to webp format, and it reduced the total file size to just over 19MB with little loss in visual quality.

Oh and the UI is clunky. No way to return to the main menu, or exit the game--had to use the Windows key and manually quit from the taskbar.

Besides that, it looks gorgeous (though I'm no fan of the grotesquely oversized arses on the women), and is well written with an interesting story. Looking forward to more.

Early access for the update v0.01b is now available to Silver Tier and up on my Patreon. The other Tiers will receive access over the coming days, until the public release occurs on Saturday, July 5th.

As always, my chief concern is story comprehension. So if you feel unnecessarily confused, reach out to me where you started to feel lost, and it will help me improve the game for all.

The lewd scenes in this update will eventually be skippable, but for now, you'll just have to deal with clicking past them if you have no interest in those women.

I was hoping to insert one more scene for this update - which happens to be the first penetrative sex scene - but alas, time did not permit. It'll be in v0.01c.

A is a lot prettier IMO, i like the boobs of B more(so transplant B's boobs on A and give her a butt to match and A is the ultimate winner!). As far as being unhinged B looks like a sociopath/schizophrenic so if you want slightly unhinged i would say A.

Both look great! But if I had to choose one it would be A. The best combo would be A's head and tits on B's body.

B is more athletic, A is more for those who prefer wide hips than anything else.

I'd say B, because I always liked athletic women who are more equally proportioned and B's tits look bigger too, which is another solid plus.
