It's not edgy dw, tolerance and subjectivity are actually a good point. Although, I think that netorare in general can be amplified when you take enough time to develop characters and their relationships before you throw them into chaos. That will definitely sting more to a great deal of people. Taking something that grew on them and picking it apart piece by piece.
I should have been more active here earlier, because these conversations teach me a lot about how people view and experience NTR, and they make me realize how different my own interaction with the genre actually is.
Your point about developing relationships makes complete sense from a logical perspective, but I’ve never really felt that way when reading or engaging with NTR, since I almost always self-insert.
Interacting also opened my eyes to the fact that people see the types of characters who
can be NTR’ed very differently. I understand now that many people believe pretty much anyone can be NTR’ed: good people, worthy people, successful people.
Meanwhile, I’ve always viewed characters who get NTR’ed as losers or failures by default. Because of that, I see the need for a deeply developed or fleshed-out “fall” in a completely different way, since in my mind it isn’t even really necessary.
