VN - Ren'Py - Abandoned - Oath of Loyalty [Ch. 10] [Silk Ari/REV]

A very nice game, one of the better ones I have played! But it has one major flaw in my opinion...

Let's start with the positives: the renders look great. The characters are beautiful and unique. No big titted bimbos but real looking girls!

The story also surprised me positively. It's a pretty standard Italian maffia setting, and although these crime/maffia games have never been able to grab my attention for more than an hour, this was an exception. It has a good pace, the conversations are realistic, sometimes funny and never too long. I like the build-up with most girls, you don't just fuck them right away (with a few exceptions). Overall, it really feels like you're watching an (erotic) maffia movie.

Also, I'm glad that it's not some grindy sandbox game, but it's not a typical VN either. It has some good aspects of both.

So then why, one might wonder, did I not rate this 5 stars? Well, call me old -fashioned, but I think the sex scenes are still the most important part of a porn game. And in this game the sex scenes are just... meh. They're not terrible, but they aren't very good either, especially compared to the high quality of the rest of the game.

Examples? Well, sure:

• The sex scenes are pretty short compared to other scenes/conversations. They often consist of just 2 or 3 different shots, and while that's plenty for two people that are having a conversation, in a sex scene that's just not enough. For example: people don't undress. It's just one frame the woman is wearing clothes and the next frame the clothes have disappeared. There is no teasing, no build-up. Also the MC doesn't really 'cum'. You just see a shot of a naked girl, you choose where to cum, and the next frame you see the same shot of a naked girl but with some white stains on her face/ass/belly.
• The sex scenes are (partially) animated, but the animations are not an improvement. I'm a big fan of animations, but only if they are done well. If not, it's better to leave them out altogether. I like bouncing titties and asses, but here it's just characters moving awkwardly back and forth or up and down like plastic dolls.
• The dev obviously likes dirty talk, and so do I, but one can also overdo it... Especially in the last few chapters a lot of sex scenes feel like a cheap porn movie. "Fuck me like a dirty whore" gets tiring when it's used 10 times in the same scene.

So, this review got a little longer than I had anticipated, but what I mainly wanted to say is this: the game is nice. Really nice! But the most important part (ze zexy stuff) is just average.

The writing of the story is pretty great and the character models are excellent. The game also uses less than average generic backgrounds ( Or just ones that aren't in _every_ game... Except that same shop(damn, they must be making a killing in weg-town).

I am enjoying watching the MC develop into a mob boss, but I am rater annoyed that I am not able to decide the fate of a certain traitorous bitch (no spoilers). If i could, then 5 stars.

Would I recommend it? Definitely.

A game that starts good enough and becomes better and better. The pacing of the story is good and it becomes deeper with more updates. The skills of the developer with the sex scenes also seem to improve in the later chapters, especially animations.
There is sex with some of the girls (not all of them yet). The story seems to be in it's early phases, but it is updated regularly.

Solid look, decent story, but it's yet another game that plays like a harem but has no intention of delivering. it joins the ranks of similar games like 'Where the Heart Is,' 'No More Secrets,' and 'Retrieving the Past.' Games that literally throw every available woman at you and then turn around and force you to choose between them.

While it's still to early yet in the game to give a definitive review, the game does look very interesting and promising.
It has a different premise and could be2 games in one. The "adult " part where you try to sleep with every female you meet and the "business" side of the game.
Renders look good and character developments are interesting as well.
Looking forward to future updates.

Review of the version 0.3.1

Positive points:
- the story is interesting and mature
- the characters are well fleshed out (some of the secondary characters still need some works)
- some choices really influence the story and your relation with the other characters (you can opt out of certain relationship which is a plus for me)
- the MC has a nice mindset
- the art and the animations are great and they seems to get better at each chapter

Negative points:
- most of the choices make you win some points (ruthless / leader) but for now it doesn't affect the game play at all
- the game could use some more sound effect and music

Conclusion:
Oath of Loyalty is a promising game with a lot of qualities.

Good Points
+Renders and animations looks decent.
+Story seems interesting.

Bad Points
-Sex sounds and laugh sounds are pretty annoying and disturbing. You need close it when sex scene appear and open again after and its kind of boring. You should made them better/less annoying or completly remove.
-Render and animations or basicly general quality need some improve.
-Story seems interesting but its little bit slow when need to be fast and little bit fast pecaed when need to be detailed. DEV need balance story telling little bit more than this.
-Girl/Woman faces and bodies looks little bit more realistic and this makes them little bit unattractive. Its DEV's own stlye but little bit change could be better. More round and firm bodies, more attaractive faces etc.

For The End
Wel its not bad game it just need some work for around there and there. If DEV manage to fix some little bad points it could be better than this.

Great renders and a good story, so I didn't feel compelled to skip just to get to the "good stuff". I definitely enjoyed this one so far. The one thing I'd recommend changing a bit is to make a better prompt when you customize name and relationship. You have to name them before you even know what they are supposed to be. Also, those who aren't in your household or the next household where the relationship prompt makes no sense.

The following review is based off my personal experience with playing this Game/Visual Novel... I try to be as brutally honest and detailed as I can, and these are my own opinions and thoughts, from one or more play throughs... The version this review is based on is v0.2...

Although it has a few cliche mafia story elements, it's not that bad of a visual novel...

The visuals of the characters are high quality, and mostly unique... The only qualm I had with them, is that some were perpetually smiling or smirking, throughout various back to back pictures during conversations or even sexual event, which didn't always feel very natural (sometimes it felt a bit creepy looking)... The backdrops were all pretty good, as I only slightly recognized a few... The animations are o.k., but tended to look a bit animatronic and short... The user interface that kept popping up with all the pictures of the characters, while a very unique and cool feature, might have been better relegated to a drop down rather then constantly just popping in as the story progresses... If a character needed naming or what not, then have it as a pop up just for those occasions... Otherwise it sort of felt like the story telling was constantly being interrupted with the pin board...

The script was well done, as I rarely ran into any spelling/grammar errors... There was an issue that pops up now and then, where some character relationship titles were not what you customized but instead were defaults... Also, one of the characters kept getting referred to as a "supervisor", which felt really weird as the male protagonist didn't have a job that I was aware of... So what was she supervising in relation to the protagonist?

You can definitely tell this visual novel was originally designed to have incest content, and the customization of names and relationship titles was more to get around posting rules from sites like Patreon... There was even a moment when a character referred to the protagonist as the mafia bosses wife's "son", when I had never customized that as the title... I really think having so much customization beyond the original intended relationship dynamics of the story telling, will eventually cause some story confusion and plot holes if it is written as one relationship but customized differently... You can tell the developers were trying to alleviate confusion by showing an example of the customization in a sentence, but it still sometimes felt a bit out of place when the story was being told, now and then... Issues in continuity are going to pop up now and then, with too much customization from the reader/player, unless they choose the exact titles you actually intended for the story... I see that as a potential sore spot later, if not constantly handled properly in the story telling, by the writer/s...

You can definitely tell this is a mafia themed story, as much of the mafia style character interaction stereotypes have a tendency to show up in the story telling, plot elements, and dialogue... It's done decently though, and sometimes it even made me chuckle inside, seeing just how stereotypical the mafia banter and other story elements came across in certain moments... I don't want to say this VN doesn't take itself too seriously, because it's still a fun and interesting story to read, but you can tell sometimes that certain story aspects were a bit 1930's and 40's mafia cliche... But I still enjoyed reading it...

This one is primarily a story focused visual novel, with some occasional erotic content... I do wish the erotic scenes were not so short though, as sometimes they just flew by, leaving you without very much of an emotional attachment between the characters... Just a few quick images and perhaps a very short series of animations and it was over... They didn't really feel like they were meant to have any real impact, in the moment... Felt more like quick sexual events just for the sake of having them... Even the text during the events felt rushed, no real emotion, just two people suddenly deciding to have sex, saying "fuck me" a few times (no matter what the female characters personality was up till that point), a couple different shots of various positions (maybe the highly short animatronic looking animations), pronouncing he/she is about to have an orgasm, and then it's done... Smoke em if ya got'em... Movin' on... Other then the few text issues I mentioned earlier, this really is my biggest complaint about this one...

Some of the character personalities are also slightly stereotyped, but not always to an extreme degree... Most characters felt natural, a majority of the time... That or they fit into their cliche mafia roles perfectly fine...

There is a mechanic that it shows you in the beginning involving the three mafia families... Showing an overlapping bar graph of the three houses and your influence over them... But I never ran into any choices that felt like they might impact that influence... So not sure if that it something that is planned for future content? If any of the current choices were meant to have an impact, they sure didn't give any clue to it in the story telling... As most choices either didn't seem to change much, or just added slight flavor to how two characters talked about a subject... Nothing currently felt like it would be an influencing type of choice...

Overall, I enjoyed my play through of this one... It is more story focused, and kept me wanting to keep reading... For now, even though some choices are presented, it feels more like a linear story, but I'm just fine with that aspect... I wish the sexual encounters had been done better with more feeling and meaning, but it is what it is... The concept of allowing the player/reader to customize all the names and titles was o.k. but I don't think it was really necessary, plus it sometimes made the story text sound a bit weird as I read it, but not too often... Obviously this VN is in it's very early stages of development, and I think it shows great promise... Just needs to work out the bugs and work on improving it's sexual content a little bit (quality not necessarily the quantity)... It has the potential to be really great if it can work through it's growing pains... If I could have given it a 4.5 I would have, but the there are some wrinkles the devs need to iron out first... I greatly look forward to seeing this visual novel sometime later in it's development...

Very promising start

- Cool story (so far). Very cliché with the mob stuff, but I like it.
- Very good renders, characters and places look nice. Animations are good and smooth, but they are very simple and there aren't many of them.
- Dialogues are great. No noticeable errors so far.
- Don't know how much your choices impact the story so far.

v0.3:

So the game is really enjoyable and I recommend it.

I think the game slightly suffers from pacing issues and I feel it really takes away from the interesting story. The progression is just a bit too rapid for me; this goes for the relationship building as well as the main story itself. The dialogue is also a bit shallow at times which kind of goes along with this. Personally, I think the game would benefit from slowing down a bit and building more depth rather than span wider.

At this point, I'm nitpicking a bit but I think it needs a little bit of work for at least the story and writing to be 5 stars.

Other than that, the character designs are great. Everyone looks very attractive but also realistic which is extremely refreshing and fantastic to see. There are a lot of characters but the game offers you a screen so you can keep track of all of them which helps with remembering them.

The sex scenes are pretty well done and the animations are passable but not necessarily consistent. Some scenes look better than others. The animations aren't bad, but many of them aren't anything to write home about. I understand how very difficult it is to achieve realistic animations so I won't harp on it too much but they could use a bit of refining. I imagine in time, they will get better especially if the game gets more support.

Another thing worth mentioning is that the posing and facial expressions aren't always on point. Some scenes are really, really well done and others are kind of meh. There's a bit of a melancholy conversation between two characters and one of them is just smiling through it. It's not bad and for all I know, it could be intended; maybe the character felt good about something or found something funny but I'm not sure I noticed a happy moment in the dialogue. So basically the renders and the writing don't exactly match each other at times. This is another very minor issue but I don't want to rate the game "perfect" when I feel there's some things that can be done better.

The story is also pretty fun. It's still early on but from the way things are looking I think your choices you make will be rewarding and satisfying. They will dictate how you want your game to look.

On top of all of this, the devs are really active and keep you up to date on progress as well. I think this game is really underrated and hopefully it will grow in popularity soon as I think it's well-deserved.

I'm giving the game a 4-4.5 or so. I think it's very close to being a "perfect" game so far but some parts just need that little bit extra for me anyways. Without a doubt, give this a try and consider dropping the devs a buck if you enjoy it.

v0.1:
Fantastic start, can't really complain about anything. Seems like a pretty open-ended game with an interesting story albeit the MC is a bit naive. The game had quite a lot of content for a typical 0.1 which made it even better.

The girls are hot and for the most part look pretty unique. The scenes aren't the best but far from the worst and I imagine with more support they can be vastly improved. I also was surprised to have not noticed any spelling or grammar mistakes and the game makes sure to explain all the slang terms that I would have no clue about their meaning.

Like I said, an extremely impressive 0.1 and I certainly can say the game has a ton of potential. I cannot wait to see where this one goes and I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

This game has a lot of potential, but as of yet it doesn't seem like it's using said potential.

It has a very hot premise (can't believe I haven't seen a gangster themed porn VN), it has decent character models (although there is something a little uncanny about them, I can't quite put my finger on it), and the scenes are alright, I guess. The "review and save" feature is great, and I wish there were more games with one. This is the potential that can make a game my favorite.

However....

The basic premise means that the game relies solely on writing. And the game seems... Bad with its writing.

MC is supposed to be some sort of genius (given that he aces straight through his tests), yet he is a damn retard when it comes to dialogue. All of his dialogue is either so cheesy that France is about to declare war, or he is thick as an oak tree, incapable of getting hints or paying attention or doing what he's told. And this is despite the fact that the plot hasn't started for him yet. I get that some sort of character development is most probably in the works for him, where we would be able to mold him into what we want him to be, but come on, the author could've shown him as a naive, innocent and righteous guy without making him an idiot.

For a porn game, whose focus is supposed to be sex and sex scenes, the naughty scenes are disappointingly short and done almost as an afterthought. The intimate interactions are quite few, only 2 sex scenes, they are quite sloppily written as well, and they are short (blowjob, sex in one position, and cumshot, location of which is the only choice you're getting) and quite vanilla, to the point where I'd describe them as mechanical. It almost appears like the author wanted to make a VN first, and after understanding that the only successful VNs are the porn ones, decided to add porn into his VN. That's... Unsettling. Especially considering that this would mean the author wants to lean into the writing instead, and the writing doesn't appear to be up to scrutiny.

The sound design is absolutely abhorrent, the author seems to want to add as many sound effects as he can, and the only thing that does is be annoying. Seriously, why do we need a sound of a girl laughing? Over 5 times? With the same sound each time??? Come on! Sound effects should be something that draws our attention and focuses us if we might have been led into boredom or thought, not something that keeps distracting us for no reason whatsoever. A nice solution would be to make the important sounds louder and to add some background music, but that's more of a band-aid than healing.

Overall, 4/5. The premise is incredible, and the author still has some leeway to make it work. But in my honest opinion, the author will have to step up his game, and it would surprise me if he does that - quality of these games usually goes down as time goes on, not up.

Having played through what is out so far I would definitely consider the game good in almost all aspects. And while I personally have no issues with harem stories, at least those that allow it, this one does seem like it is at minimum going to force multiple sexual encounters before allowing a monogamous relationship. That kinda rubbed me the wrong way that the sexual encounters are forced upon the player/MC.

That being said I like the innovative way the game sets up break points and allows for the "customization" of characters and the three choice path set in the beginning. Now I figure that the "customization" is really just a different way to skirt patreon rules on incest content as well as leave it open for the player to call the other characters what ever they like, but it is rather obvious what it is meant to be and didn't want to use an incest patch like most games.

Oath of Loyalty certainly has promise and while as of right now I'm not sure if it is worth the four stars I am currently giving it, I know that it will be able to live up to that rating and I for one will be watching it as it progresses forward.

Cons: (but)! Forced sexual content and girls forced on MC. Abscence of monogamous route.
If player got freedom to customize "environment", than why not be able to customize sexual aspects of game and to choose which girl(s) to bang and persue and which to avoid?
If you seek freedom of content, than this is not game for you. First release and we already have two forced sexual encounters on MC (one where you can choose between two girls - no option to choose none of them, and second where you can't choose anything but to bang some hoe). Seems to me it's going to end up like some kind of forced harem...
Would not recommend to others.

Write-up:
-A great start to a VN. To start, the graphics are on par with the higher-end VNs on here. It isn't a Milfy City or Timestamps, but it holds up well. The characters are unique from each other and their proportions are realistic. Characters are naturally attractive, they don't look like copy-paste DAZ models found in other games.

-The story in this game is unique, not the usual "my father died and I'm left with a harem of women to wear down and eventually get in their pants". Instead, it introduces a system that will eventually evolve into your character having great control over events. With these events, they are well paced and it doesn't feel like things are rushed too quickly (except one moment but I'm not complaining about it, you'll see what I mean). Additionally, there are nice interval moments where the game collects itself and lets you review the events that took place and acts like a gallery for each character you encounter.

-The content within v1.0 are plenty and well-done. Not to spoil, . The only issue I have with the content is that the animations are okay. The characters in these scenes look more static mannequins. But I believe that over time this aspect will improve over time so I'm not worried there.

-Gameplay is pretty straight forward for a VN but the author has implemented some mechanics that make things interesting. First, you are given an option to choose what type of revenue stream (you'll see what I'm talking about when you start) you want to follow for the rest of the game which is pretty unique from other games I've played. The other mechanic I already mentioned but still is nice to have when playing a game like this.

I'm can say this is a game will be one I'll be following closely with its development. There are a lot of good things going with game, especially so early on in development. It's too early to say it's perfect but it's on track to be a really well-done game. For v1.0, I give it a 5/5.

So far in this first chapter, I will rate the game excellent, 5 stars
here is why:
It has a nice menu for setting the character's name and relationship to the mc.
It has decent animations and good renders, the girls look very good.
It has good writing and an interesting story, I love the mafia feeling in the game and you can select at the start of the game, what kind of racket you want drugs, gambles.... protection, etc it will be interesting how that affects the story later in the game if you go for the safest one or the less safe one. Like maybe it will make it harder to deal with cops or some other things...
Also I should say it has some nice scenes for being a 0.1 version, It is nice for the dev to have some good standards for a 1st version.

Edited as of last update chapter 3:
Have to remove 2 stars after the dev decided to portray 1 main heroine and Li for the mc as a cheating whore (Barbara), for me that ruins a perfect character that I was interested in, she is not the only one though Bella that was added this last update is portrayed as a whore that will fuck anyone for a bit of information, something that will make it hard to pursue any of them as a romantic partner. There are more girls that you can romance in the game that are not portrayed as such but when is one of your favs it can ruins what was a perfect game to me.

I Will update after chapter 4 releases but so far that thing in chapter 3 kind of ruined the romance feeling of the game for me.
