Hey guys! It's that time of the month again... time to put out a devlog, I mean. What, did you think I meant something else?
Development Progress
Unfortunately, due to both Krash and I running into a lot of issues lately, on top of tech issues for everyone, and the stacked combo of me being sick, to me hurting my back and being unable to get out of bed, back to me being sick... November was a damn struggle for all of us. Krash is currently an incredible help as usual, but for those who don't know, Krash does like a million things a day, and maybe only a 10th of that is OA stuff. Right now, he's away from home for work and will be back as soon as he can, and he will work from his current spot, but it's still providing some difficulties.
When it comes to art scenes, Astro is working on probably the biggest scene of the update, and Farmer, I believe, is at least ALMOST done with his scene. We have a few random scenes that are already done, and I will put up a vote if you want me to post previews for those out of order. As it goes, though, I'm working very close with the artists, and I know Astro is working with other artists to help him improve. He's improved so much recently (after already being great), and he's going to be fantastic.
Writing wise, I'm taking a break from the scene I REALLY want to write in order to write a couple of smaller scenes. That's not saying I don't want to write these. It's just a scene with Autumn, so I'm more excited than normal.
Both the smaller scenes have actually given me trouble because I keep changing up small things as I write, but I'm a firm believer in creating outlines and using them as a template for the true script.
(I should've left this for the next section, rahhhh)
When it comes to music and stuff, I have a lot of prepared music, but I want to look for more unique music from smaller artists. I got permission from a couple more artists recently, so that's really exciting! Side note: I may change the main menu thing and put the song in a scene.
One last note; I feel so bad for those not intro trans girls. Harper is so hot, lol
Writing Process/ Lampy is rambling again
First things first! I put out a post about it recently, but I wanted to reiterate that this part of the game is meant to be pretty silly and not so serious in tone. This is just because we wanted to introduce everything and everyone with a lighthearted tone. While the story is meant to be dark at its core (and trust me, it will get dark), the characters are meant to be a bright light in the darkness. This does not mean jokes in the face of tragedy, but more they are supposed to be there to lift the story along. I see worries and confusion about this, but this is something I've been focusing very hard on in scripting.
Also, on this subject, I think I would love to do a full drama type story, but for my first writing experience, I feel having fun while learning is more important. Attempting to immediately go for a mood that I'm not used to- serious- sounds rough, and while I definitely will be writing more serious stuff in this story, it's something I want to come naturally, instead of forcing a mood or some inauthentic feelings. A lot of my writing comes from a familiar place, which - not to toot my own cock- I think adds authenticity and character to my writing. I'm still far from professional, but looking at your own writing and liking it is the best damn feeling.
I don't think I can understate the fact that I love the character writing process as well. Phoebe was a character we always intended to be bratty, but as we started writing more of her, she's kind of shaped into a deeper character, and molding her into the character I think she's meant to be has been fantastic.
In this case, you'll notice some character differences between the prologue and chapter 1, due to us fully understanding the characters. In one example, I embraced the Autumn that you see in the text messages and wrote her like that. She's super goofy and fun, and I just love writing her so damn much. These characters all have their development pathed out, but as we write them, they start telling their own stories.
TL;DR: Writing and enjoying it is fucking awesome.
Final Thoughts
We've had quite a few people join the community, and it always makes me happy seeing new people join in and talk, say their opinions, or whatever they want. I've had so much support from fans, other creators, and my own team, and it just makes us want to do even better for this release. Honestly, this release can't come fast enough; I want to make you guys laugh and feel all the intended emotions.
Also, for the small or big criticisms, I'm paying a lot of attention to those, too; that's actually why I brought up the tone shift thing. However, I'll say it again; we are not changing MCs face
Any questions feel free to leave comments or ask on the discord! I can't tell you guys how much I appreciate you!
