While I do think Zoey should learn to ignore the typical F95 review critic wannabe, you over simplified the game in your review so it is interesting you choose project that here.

You are quite clear in your review the problem is the sex and the sex scenes which is the only part of the story where it lets tropes and fetishes interrupt what is otherwise a very real, sincere and serious story that has dark parts but moves forward into progress and perhaps salvation. I say perhaps because we literally just started season 2, only one release. So your focus on sex and calling it dark and nothing else speaks to having skipped dialogue to get to those "good parts" of the VN

Cumulatively that reveals quite clearly that indeed, your only concern was porn scenes. This has never been put forth as porn and the story is the driver here so for you to make an entire judgement on the basis of what this said it is NOT is as backwards and ignorant as judging Sophie's Choice on it's comedy content. Or to be more on the nose, it's sex scenes.

For this reason your review should be deleted as hackery of the first degree.




The characters are boring is a very limited personal opinion. A review should describe the character and their place and save opinions for the end, when you wrap up. The sheer lack of listing anything about any characters apart from Lydia has a good body and nice face further indicates you didn't even pay attention and rushed through to the sex and of course that would mean you find it all very boring. Anyone not cute enough to fulfill your need for a jerk is barely mentioned or not mentioned at all. You did have time to complain with some specificity that in a threesome the MC only had one orgasm, like a realistic man mind you, when you wanted more mega-sperm trope action instead. So again the one aspect you found time to break down with scene elements is of course only a sex scene.

Barb and what she is dealing with -- not mentioned -- do you even know?
Mary and what she went through -- multiple choices could satisfy that -- you likely do not know any of them.

Overall it is pretty clear you are a joke

I wouldn't care because he obviously didn't play the game. If he played it all and hated it fine. But as you say he didn't. Leaving a 2 star review because of that hurts the searchability of the game. Just that one two star review moved the game from the bottom of page 2 to the middle/bottom of page 3 when you search by weighted rating.

A game like mine is hard enough to get people to play, but (lately anyway) when the only people who are reviewing it are people like said reviewer in your post, and not all the ones who tell me in PM's it's "one of the best games on here", you can see my frustration.

Also there is a squad of hate raters that go around. You will know them because they all like each other's post's. Maybe this person is part of that. Idk.

If it wasn't for the fact there are so many of you I like on here, I'd seriously consider just ignoring this place entirely, other than to post walkthrough's and mods, because there is a lot of negative energy. But, there are enough cool people to keep me around.

I understand how one can be triggered by comments and reviews online. And it might not even be your normal personality.
I didn't look at previous reviews to see what they were because I believe reviews are singular independent pieces. I don't need to read others to make up my mind. And I'm not part of a group of hater either, if even that exists.
I didn't call the story dark (bit of a tangent as you didn't write that, but addressing indirectly defenses making things up, or more specifically making another commenter's words mine, it really doesn't look good...). And most of all, I didn't "hate it". I played it and didn't like it.
I've made several pointers already about why. True, I could have gone into more details but my reviews are already longer than the average so I generally consciously try to keep them to a bearable length whilst touching on the topics that may be useful; reviews here are not professional published pieces.

Now, there has been several (incorrect) assumptions made about me since my review. And while I'm not one to do the same to others as it's almost always a mistake, I'll say one thing. And it's not even as much a subjective guess as a fact confirmed by yourself. This VN is very personal to you. And I think it might have become an indulgence that you wish connects with as many people as possible and hurts when it doesn't (there hasn't been an single attempt to deny sex scenes are bad so it seems it's almost expected and only story & characters matters).
This is the part you should try to disconnect. Because no story will please everyone. Not Amadeus. Not Ip Man. Not even Dune...
Thinking someone must be part of a hate group because they don't connect with your game is not a healthy place to be in.

The description clearly states what this VN is about and also says that it contains A,B,C. After reading this, You decided to try it and found that it wasn't to your taste. (I've done the same). Then you chose to try it again. (done that too). But after the second time, You decided to leave a bad review because the Dev didn't change HIS story to something that you would like. That's the only conclusion I can come up with after you chose to simple ignore it the first time you tried it. Yes the story is dark. But it is real life. I see no reason to leave a bad review and pick apart a VN because its not a "happy-go-lucky" game that you prefer..

I also find it very interesting how a decision is made to leave a review or not, and everyone is different.
In this particular case when I left after a couple of updates only, I didn't feel it was mature enough to warrant a review as it would have been more of an early impression. And as my impression then might have been incorrect, I didn't want to potentially hurt or mislead. Now, it is a lot more fleshed out and what it is now, is unlikely to change. So in my view it is in a state it can be assessed. Because an assessment isn't a glowing one, doesn't mean it should be kept quiet.

Should reviews only be allowed from people who like the creative piece and not those who like different story or styles? What would the state be if everything had 100% 5 stars? Would it be better to be on the 10th search page then as long as you had that 5*?

I really like this game and I'm looking forward to playing the last 3 CH's I didn't play yet. But one thing that always puzzled me is the fact that the MC and Lydia have nice shit in their house. I mean they have a fully furnished house with everything they need, they even have some decorations and a flat screen TV lol. Now I'm no expert but it's highly unlikely for junkies to have shit like that. They sell and steal everything for a fix and given the fact that neither Lydia or the MC had jobs, it makes it even more puzzling that they didn't sell any of their things and still have a fully furnished apartment/house. Not exactly junkie behavior lol

Only when they have the means to support their adiction yeah but Lydia and The MC were both jobless and had to steal money or in Lydia's case seduce men for money. It's hard to believe that broke herion addicts of all people would not sell their own shit. Especially when they have alot of valuable stuff they could sell.

Lydia's Dad gave them a place to stay. I lived just like MC did for years without having to go Bubbles from the wire, and many of the people I got sober with didn't have to go on skid row before they got sober too.

I've yet to hear that. It should not have an effect on save transfer. Do you have a traceback screen you can post so the modder can see what's going on?

I really like your game and, although I'm not an english native speaker, I like reading your rather extensive dialogs.
But sometimes it gets on my nerves. I read a sentence than - click - I look at the image (for something new) and the same time I see the text has change. I start reading and I realise that I already read that sentence but a new one has just been added to form a whole phrase.
Maybe you could do something about that, like displaying the whole phrase at once.
Otherwise you do a great job. Keep it up.
